The Collective: Star Trek Gift Ideas on a Budget

The Holiday season is upon us and so it is time to think of gift giving for all the Trekkie girls and boys. But times are tough and so today The Collective takes a look at what the Trekkie on budget can do to give, with ideas from each incarnation of Star Trek.

The Collective: Star Trek Gift Ideas on a Budget
The worldwide economic events have affected the wallets of many Star Trek fans and families. As budgets are tightened this year, TrekMovie provides this dollar conscious list of gift ideas that could be ordered online for those hoping to buy something Star Trekkian for family and friends. Everything on the list is 20 U.S. dollars or 20 British pounds or less (before shipping and taxes). If you peruse these online retailers, there are many other Star Trek items available, for either more or less money if you are interested in other gifts. Many of these budget collectibles would also make great items to donate to local charities such as Toys For Tots.

I am in hog heaven with all these Trek things. :-)

Also, if you’re truly in a bind, dress up any old ball of yarn and call it a tribble. (Desperate times….) :-D

Ooh, disc lights for my Trek tree! Not to mention the new Hallmark ornaments.

I have a dead tribble, actually its at my parents. Came with the “Trouble with Tribbles” & “Trials and Tribbleations” VHS set…doesn’t squeak anymore… :(

It’s only sleeping. Or, at worst, in a coma. Probably.

I mean, it’s a tribble. It could be hibernating.

If only that Kira Nerys doll was life-size… I do love a woman in uniform…

Is it me, or the props from the new movie look good only on film (when they’re less visible)? Brought out in the daylight – they’re just plastic crap :/ And they look this way in the ad photos. I don’t think I wanna know how they look really… TOS props look much better.

totally want a tribble.

7.

(shamless plug) Want a real Tribble? click me

I have 3 of those tribbles (from DST). They are very cool and get many comments from guests.

#8 Chris. Click you. Oh ok. Why not. But be carefull of the Tribbles. If you feed the tribble the smallest morsel then soon you will have a dozen and then a 100 and then a 1,000 and then millions and then you you will have a eco plague the likes which have never been seen!!!!!!!! . Ok I feel better now. Time to feed the Tribble.

I can unconditionally recommend ST:Crew by Byrne to everyone.

“The Dead Tribble Sketch, an excerpt”

Capt Kirk: “VOOM”?!? Mate, this tribble wouldn’t “voom” if you put four million volts through it! ‘E’s bleedin’ demised!

McCoy: No no! ‘E’s pining!

Capt Kirk: ‘E’s not pinin’! ‘E’s passed on! This tribble is no more! He has ceased to be! ‘E’s expired and gone to meet ‘is maker! ‘E’s a stiff! Bereft of life, ‘e rests in peace! If you hadn’t nailed ‘im to the perch ‘e’d be pushing up the daisies! ‘Is metabolic processes are now ‘istory! ‘E’s off the twig! ‘E’s kicked the bucket, ‘e’s shuffled off ‘is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-TRIBBLE!!

Amazon’s Gold Box deal for today (12/11) include Trek Scene It for $7.98 (or is it $8.98?).

Has Revell made any plans on releasing the Voyager model in the U.S.? Shipping from the U.K is a beyotch.

#6 um its a toy, all trek toys have that plastic look. wait until a movie replica is made and then make that call. that, and certain coloe schemes will look more toyish compared to the all black tos tricorder. btw, what was up with the iphoneish looking medical tricorder in nemesis? why did it take all that time to finally get a sensible prop post tng series? i loved the new tricorder and it was BARELY seen! the leastt of my nemesis complaints i guess.

@6: Those aren’t prop replicas from the movie, though. They’re just toys. If they were the real deal, they sure wouldn’t be in any thread involving the words “On a Budget”. ;)

@12: I can totally see John Cleese a a really bitchy Romulan.

You know, DST released the WOK and TMP Phasers.

I mighty have to wait until after Xmas, but it would make a great gift for any Trekker :)

@8 What?? No more dilithium crystals? ;)

#17

Yes I do. I have already sent my wife the DST page and EE page featuring it. Me likey.

Wow…….a Troi “action” figure. What’s it gonna do, listen to all of our other action figure’s problems?

@20. Well, Troi used to have quite the exclusive figure! Maybe the action figure will say “I feel your paint”?

20 – Actually, she has a special “crash the ship” option ;)

WOW Chris a 400 Buck Tribble! DEFINATELY not one of the budget items for trek fans cool as it is though! heheeh……They cant be worth that much can they? DOnt you already have about a thousand of em by now?? Or are they one of those genetically modiified pink color blind tribbles? heheeh

I have 1 Tribble I got from some Bantam book deal its a squeazer that makes the authentic squealing noise when you are a klingon….so everybody must be a klingon….then I have one of the large ones from the Star Trek Experience..these vibrate and roll around and make a noise that is not either the official purring tribble sound or the Screaming youre a klingon noise…..they sound more like ohhhh Alvin and the Chipmunks crazy maybe hehehe….or no drugs…and they wiggle from loud noises or slight touches too heeheh

Merry Trekmas to Chriss Doohan and Anthony n Staff n Everybody!

I got the trivia game and plyed it over the Thanksgiving weekend with a friend of ours who is also a big Trek fan. This is a lot harder than you think as some answers get very detailed and specific. Of course you can fudge it if the person gets the right idea and may not state it exactly as the answer card has it written out.

This game involves questions from TOS and all the TOS crew movies. Stopping at Generations so you won’t get any Picard questions. I great way to spend and evening and it is quite addictive. The only draw back is that the playing pieces are simple generic plastic markers in 6 colors. They did not choose to use any thing that looks ST. They actually resemble Bishop chess board men only smaller. One solution would be to use the pewter peices that come with ST Monopoly game.

Deanna Troi action figure….. oh my.

I KNOW I got a tribble for Christmas from my girlfriend… the package under the tree chirps and shivers when I shake it. Haha.. love it.

@25 – Did she remember to leave airholes?
