I think Russell T. Davies would be the perfect producer who could revitalize Star Trek. He has great writing skills and I think a new Star Trek tv show produced by him would be very popular and exciting. I found latest movie boring. Star Trek needs inventive people and I believe Russell T. Davies would be great. I wish he was still producing Doctor Who. Regards, Dialashop.

In terms of the narrative it works in both shows since they both support alternative universes. Would be fairly simple to write The Doctor into another clumsy jump into an very different universe, one where the human race seems to be rather passive and less warmongering.

But as others have said, it wouldn't be easy to convince CBS and the BBC to work together. But just thinking about it gives me goosebumps. I'd rather David Tennant’s Doctor to do the honours, but since he's unavailable Matt Smith will have to do (he'd be my second choice anyway.)

"I know the new Who is tied to the past but I don't really care."

Then tell us, why do you even report on it, you arrogant asswipe?

Why don't you go and blow JJ Abrams and Bob Orci again?

I love David Tennant as the Doctor and is one of my favs but don't forget there have been 9 before him, and each Doctor has their own traits.

In Doctor Who I love the concept of regeneration, a logical way to get around an actor change and allow the next person to be unique.

#62, that is actually very well spotted. Well done.

Steven Moffat (Doctor Who's new showrunner) has said that he'll be making the new series very accesible. He went as gone as far as saying that Episode Six will be almost like an introduction episode for people who have never seen (or have become lapsed viewers) the Eleventh Doctor.

Even more interesting is a comment from Matt Smith and Karen Gillan (the Doctor and Amy). They have described the new series as slightly Tim Burton-esque in the feel of the stories. Matt has said the Moffat writes as if he's writing for a fairytale.

Like most of you, I have only seen 50 seconds of the new Doctor. And I love him already. Just treat the new series as a pilot for a new show. In essence, that's what it is: new Doctor, new Companion, new head writer and producers.

Did I mention that the new series has Vampires in Tudor England?! None of this lovey-dovey romance stuff, no siree!

Seriously, give our new Doctor a chance. You may all find you'll like him.

Even if he does wear a bow tie.

Which incidentally, I love.

OK, I'll stop waxing lyrical about the Time Lord now!

#63 I just thought, as well, how it shows up in the hero worship the Doctor has for the crew.

I mean imagine "You're CAPTAIN KIRK! But you're BRILLIANT! What date is this?

"Oh,

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. But that bridge HAS to fall on you. It's a fixed point in time. ... ... Aw.... SCREW IT! The Laws of Time will obey me etc etc"

The Master should regenerate into..............oh this is good................William Shatner. Then he could put his Timelord essence into a fob watch and run around the galaxy thinking he's a starship captain. It's almost too easy.
