Just my two cents.

What they did was find a solution around the writer’s block, which is a appropriate step into the right direction. Unfortunately, the end result was another feedback loop, which presented to the audience a recycled set of criteria.

What new species did you learn about?
What new culture did you learn about?
What was the moral lesson learned?
Did they take you on a new journey, or did they rehash an older one?

How many episodes and movies were based upon Vulcans, Romulans, Klingons, etc…?

What were those stories about?

Did the movie expend on the current knowledge, or did they reboot because they were out of ideas?

If you think about those questions above, you will notice that J. J.’s “Star Trek” is a rehashed and rebranded feedback loop. According to the rumors about the next sequel, Khan maybe the main villain of the story.

Why recycle an old character? What type of story can they give us, which does not mimic or mirror older story lines?

Until the “Star Trek” franchise does take some time off, Paramount may never learn from their past mistakes.

And yes, we all understand that you don’t like the new movie. But instead of simply moving on and enjoying what has come before, you keep bitching about how the new crew changed a few things.Judging by the success of this new flick, Star Trek doesn’t or didn’t need a 10 year hiatus. Just a new “adminstration” and approach. If anything, Star Trek could use a “ten year” hiatus from you and your fellow “Talifans”.

They’ve re-hashed the joker a lot in the Batman universe too. The only thing that matters is if the story is worth telling.

I agree and disagree. Unfortunately, “Star Trek’s” issues come from rehashing old stories, characters, species, and many-many other elements. Most of the people who I talk to think the repetition and lack of a hiatus caused “Star Trek” to become stale. “Star Trek” has become overexposed to such an extent that the stories hinder meaning.

Instead of the writers taking a hiatus for a few years in between “DS9″, “Voyager”, and “Enterprise”, they push forward until the franchise exhausted itself.

“Star Trek” was never broken. All it needed was a period between series, so that the writers can recharge their batteries. We most likely would not have gotten “Enterprise”, but we would have gotten a ‘third generation’ series.

“Star Trek” didn’t need a reboot. It needed a good five to ten year hiatus, so the writers can overcome their writer’s block.

The only thing that matters is if the story is worth telling. If bob and Alex come up with a good khan story…. then why not introduce the greatest trek villain to a new generation of trek fans ? Why not explore it ? Why are the ”hardcore” trek fans soo scared ? Same fear when JJ rebooted the trek franchise ?

If i remember correctly…. the reboot turned out pretty well…. We should not let our fears take us over.
