I have one serious lady crush on Kate Mulgrew! After watching TNG I thought, there’s no way this woman can pull off captain like a Picard but I was totally wrong! She wasn’t only classically beautiful but clearly very witty on & off screen, the perfect choice..Genevieve who?

Choosing a female lead was an excellent decision and I can’t wait for my daughter to be old enough to watch! I only wish Janeway could’ve taken a few more men to her bed other than the irish hologram…Q out of pitty…Chakotay stranded on their own planet…anyone but Neelix…we all know she deserved it!

Patrick Stewart seem dont interest with the series or ster trek He seem more occupied with theater and he seem happy with that. Other thing like Kate said it is about market and it’s value is true of course and market prefers young ppl than older ones is another reality bc they hope to pull new generations to theather by that way, from my point of view last star trek movie is awful.That means young ppl are not always make difference in theaters.Both TNG and VOYAGER crew was good actors (a couple of them is not :) ) I said it was bc it seem it will remain in past.

I always saw Captain Janeway as a female version of a bold and confident Captain Kirk, but with the diplomacy of Captain Picard. She could be conflicting like Kirk and daring to the end like him, but also very diplomatic like Picard. She actually had the qualities of the 2 captains rolled up into one. Of course her feminity had softened her qualities where as she could also be a mother to Kes and Harry Kim, but still have that sex appeal to Chakotay. The interesting thing was that she knew her boundaries with the crew, and they knew their boundaries with her. I thought her relationship with Tuvok was very sweet. She balanced him out well as did Kirk & Spock’s relationship did balance each other out also. I would love to see Kate in a new Star Trek Voyager movie. Oh and it was so good to hear her call ‘my friend, Bill Shatner.’ Seems the 2 captains have a real good relationship.

Great interview. Love the woman, i have seen her in TV series and on the stage, a very good actress and an elegant gracious lady.

I have been a fan of Star trek since The Cage many many year ago. Voyager was my favourite followed by TNG and DS9.

I was dismayed throught the series however by the total lack of continuity and the complete dismissal od canon, I’m with Ron Moore on that one. I believe Braga was the kiss of death as far as the franchise went.
I liked the idea of Seven in the show but not the way she was portrayed by the writers, blonde bimbo style, known as Barbie of Borg by the fans. Talk about playing to the young male demographic, thank god for the BBC.

Hope to see Mulgrew again in anything but would love it to be as Captain/Admiral Janeway.

I grew up with Voyager having loved all prior Trek. Grade school to graduation, it was always there. Sometimes in the background (due to getting my first job & working alongside school – so glad for the twice-a-week schedule) and sometimes more in the foreground for whatever reason. I developed alongside these characters and will always have a strong fondness for them in the context of morality, integrity and sense of family. THANK YOU KATE, and the rest of the cast and crew for providing both escapism and good role models which no doubt shaped who I am today. My favourite and most valued of all Trek as it does not collect dust on my DVD shelf. Cheers to you all. :)

Exactly – it doesn’t preclude anything at all. It is just your opinion and that’s fine.

I fear you maybe right about JJ’s universe (I think a great many trek fans fear this) but I do hope future writers return to Roddenberry’s vision of Star Trek and it doesn’r get lost in the superficial Hollywood glitz. If it does, then we can probably say goodbye to the franchise.

CBS Paramount owns the rights to the TV shows. That does not preclude them from taking on one of the prior shows. They can do what they want with them

That being said, they won’t. The prior shows are done. If you want to follow them further, you have to read the novels. The new JJ universe it where they will go from now on.

I watched the voyager series in the 90s and absolutely loved it. I got married mid 90s just before Voyager began and my first child was born towards the end of that decade. She’s now 11 and we watch the re-runs of voyager together. For me its better than I remember. My respect for Kate Mulgrew keeps on growing. Her protrayal of a starfleet Captain is an incredible blend of the traditions of starfleet as well her personal development as she deals with the predicament that her crew are in. The other key characters too are phenomenol. Each of them are so suited to their role and by the end of the series it was as though the actors probably knew each of their characters better than themselves. Watching my daughter enjoy Voyager is amazing. I can see that Voyager has its critics but for me and my daughter, the whole point of voyager was that it was a journey in more ways than one. The so-called episodes that people did not appreciate , for me are all part of the learning process – its like watching a child grow to adolescence to adulthood. As the audience i feel like the proud parent.

I loved reading the interview and i’m so glad that Kate would want toplay the Captain again. I hope that the opprtunity arises . I could go on some more but i guess i should stop now.

Kate was very nice at Dragon con this year. You could tell she wanted to talk to her fans more,but the con people were pushing people along fast.
