Rumor Control: Chris Pine As New Captain America? – Unlikely

There is a new rumor sweeping across the Interweb this weekend, and it is yet another Chris Pine casting thing. Since the actor hit the big time after his performance as James T. Kirk in 2009’s Star Trek, Pine’s name seems to get attached to every big new project in Hollywood. This time the rumor is that he will be the new Captain America, however comments from the film’s director cast some doubt on this one.

This morning Viacom (the parent of Paramount Pictures) released its fourth quarter and full year results for 2009 and the results are good, surpassing Wall Street estimates. Three weeks ago it was announced that Roddenberry Productions had entered into a deal with Imagine Entertainment to create a new pilot based on Gene Roddenberry’s "The Questor Tapes." Last month, on the same day that Paramount announced they picked the release date of June 29th, 2012 for the Star Trek sequel, Sony announced they were rebooting the Spider-man franchise for 2012. Today Sony announced they want to take on Trek by picking July 3rd, 2012 as their release date. They also announced the next Spider-man will be in 3D. Will Star Trek follow in the 3-D Trek?
