JJ Abrams & Tom Cruise Set for Mission Impossible IV – coming Summer of 2011 February 9, 2010

There has been an update on progress on that other big Paramount franchise JJ Abrams is working on. Paramount has announced that the Abrams-produced Mission Impossible IV will go into production this summer and Tom Cruise will be back as both producer and star. The goal is for the film to be out by the summer of 2011. Details below.

CBS To Sell Assets From Original Star Trek: The Experience – Still Working On Creating New Experience

In September 2008, the Trek-themed attraction Star Trek: The Experience closed at the Las Vegas Hilton, after running for a decade. Since that time CBS has been working on developing a new Star Trek: The Experience at a new location, and that work is still ongoing. However, they have decided that most of the assets from the first attraction wont be able to be used and so they are going to be sold off. More details below.

Previews Of NX-01 ‘Refit’ from 2011 Ships Of The Line Calendar

For the last decade or so, one of the most anticipated Trek products each year is the Ships of the Line calendar, featuring work from veteran Trek artists, wrangled by Doug Drexler. Last week Doug put up a sneak peak of a special bonus centerfold for this year’s calendar, featuring a tech manual style -look at a couple of the ships in the calendar including a ‘refit’ of the NX-01 from Enterprise, which bridges the gap towards a TOS style.

It has been a busy week for Star Trek writer/exec producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. Firstly Alex talked about Star Trek over the weekend at a film festival. Plus last week they signed a new big TV deal with Fox, and today they cast an actor from Lost (and Trek) for their Hawaii Five-0 remake. Flashback: Super Bowl 2009 Brings Star Trek to the masses

Today is Super Bowl XLIV, which marks the one year anniversary of a seminal Trek event, the first ever Super Bowl commercial for a Trek film. Last year’s Star Trek Super Bowl commercial was a sort of ‘coming out’ for the Star Trek film to the mainstream. Editorial: President Proposes Bold New Approach to Exploring the Final Frontier February 6, 2010

First Look and Excerpts for Star Trek Magazine Klingon/STO Special
