I think there are plenty of folks who will agree that it wasn't Harrison Ford who was the weak link in Indy 4, but George Lucas' writing. For me, It was a pretty hard sell that after decades of traveling, meeting new people (we're including Young Indiana Jones too - which is cannon by Word of God), making friends all over the world (and consequently having many adventures with them), that older Indy would come across as some kind of pastiche of the lonley, out-of-touch, old man stereotype at the beginning of part 4.

I get it - yes, Henry Jones Sr. and good ol' Marcus Brody have passed on :,( - literally in Denholm Elliot's case - but come on here, what about some Christmas letters from Sallah and his 9 kids? Indy's never been a father figure - helloooooo - what about Short Round? How could Indy be so awkward and out of touch with the times when he's been directly involved in MAKING the times - not to mention that it's his JOB to work around young people, hence CONSTANT exposure to youth culture - so why is he so uncomfortable at the malt shop in Indy 4.

For that matter, why is he in a malt shop at all instead of yukking it up in some smoky, seedy bar with a bunch of other old-school heavy hitters. It's been my experience (having been heckled by my fair share of old hard-asses in my youth) that veterans and other assorted hard-ass types tend to gravitate toward each other because they can relate - so what's with the Indiana Jones as Clark Kent vibe we're getting spoon fed in Crystal Skull?

I understand that the PURPOSE is to show that time has passed and that Indy is experiencing a new era in history, but I'm pretty sure that everyone gets it just by looking at the amount of white in his hair and saying "hmm, THAT wasn't there in Indy 3".

So while, I understood the intent - I couldn't buy into the sudden Julius Kelp treatment of Indy a la Jerry Lewis:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nutty_professor.jpg

Considering that for the last thirty years we've been adventuring with an Indy whose style is more akin to James Stewart a la Vertigo:

http://www.gonemovies.com/www/WanadooFilms/Thriller/VertigoBos.jpg

Yes, I've just betrayed my Indiana Jones super-dorkdom, but I think the point is a little more legit as far a character development and writing goes than trying to explain the mathematical impossibilities (or hell, probabilites too) of surviving a nuclear explosion in a refrigerator, but of course your mileage may vary. :P

Comments anyone?

So, Cameron isn't going to call it Avatar 2? Everyone else will.

Maybe he could call it "Avatar: Not That Airbender Guy Thing"

Or, with a Slavic linguistic pun: "Na'Dvi"

I've been calling it "Aftertar". (Say it a few times, you'll like it.)

The idea of Tron and shifting aspect ratios is gonna be awesome. Not making it quite IMAX full screen but being 1.7:1 (as opposed to the 1.44:1 of IMAX) is maybe when the Blu-ray arrives it'll shift like Dark Knight. But I've seen the trailer for Tron Legacy and it'll make Avatar look like a student film.

NOTE TO BOB ORCI IF YOU READ THIS: here's an idea for Star Trek XII: Wolverine and Gambit crash on the Lost island, Smokey/Locke guides them to a temporal shift thingy which sends them to the 23rd Century...unfortunately Deadpool survived Wolverine tossing him into the core of three-mile-island and hitches a ride in the temporal thingy on the island and goes on a rampage throughout the Federation...so Wolverine, Gambit and the Enterprise crew must stop him from ravaging the Federation, only to discover Deadpool woke up Khan and the Augment Mutants and they start a war Magneto-style LOL...and at the end of the movie, in a Dallas-like twist, we discover the entire movie was one of Stewie's dreams in Family Guy LMAO!!

P.S.--I'm joking LOL

I thought Indy 4 and the first Transformers movie were great. I haven't seen Transformers 2 yet, but I think I'll like it. I see opinions differ about these movies on here. You know what they say, "different strokes for different folks".

@ doug_skywalker:

What exactly do you expect from TREK XII then?
Enterprise on a mission, meeting big bad guy with a big bad starship, threatening to blow up a random planet or Earth... Enterprise saving the day... Fits almost every TREK film released...
What makes every single one so special is character interaction and problems characters are faced with. Same with Wolverine or any other super hero movie, where the pattern is always the same: Superhero meets supervillain, fights supervillain, wins.
