Nominations for Canada’s fourth annual Constellation Awards, which honor "excellence in science fiction film and television" have been announced and the 2009 Star Trek movie dominates the film categories with five nominations. Details below.
Star Trek Constellation Awards Nominations
Star Trek has five nominations in four categories, more than any other film (Avatar only has three). Here are the Trek nominations:

In addition, Star Trek veteran Brannon Braga is nominated for Best Script for the pilot of FlashForward, and FlashForward also was nominated for Best TV Show.
Voting in the awards is now open to the public (you must prove you are Canadian and there is a $5 fee, to help pay for the awards). The voting deadline is June 7th, 2010. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on July 17th, 2010 in Toronto.

Honestly, I think, as a Canadian, these awards must go to Canadian achievements. Not what Canadians thought was the best American production.

As much as I loved Pine and Urban in Trek, my vote for Best Male Performance goes to Sam Rockwell for his brilliant performance in Moon.
For Best Female Performance, the award should go to Zoe for Avatar — because aside from the effects, she was the only great thing about that movie. Her Neytiri was the only character I actually cared about, and Saldana’s performance is the reason.
For Best Science Fiction Film, the award will *likely* go to Avatar, because, well, it’s big and bright and colorful and a technological marvel. For some reason Avatar is getting away with poor screenwriting because of its scope and grandeur, but, whatever. Anyway, the movie that *should* win is District 9, though I would also take Moon or Star Trek. Watchmen, not so much. Avatar, definitely not.

#5 – I’m with you but when was the last time there was a canadian SF production? Correct me if I’m wrong, but its been a few decades since the height of Cronenberg and then his movies are more classified as horrors . I’m not counting US productions filmed in Canada such as Sanctuary listed above as a canadian series…commissioned by the SYFY channel!!!
I’m Canadian yet this is the first time I’ve heard of the Constellation Awards. :-)
The awards should be held in Vancouver B.C. Simply because more sci-fi shows and films have been shot on the west coast than in Toronto.
“Battlestar Galactica”, “Caprica”, “Stargate”, “The X-Files”, “The Outer Limits”, “Millenium” just to name a few series.
That Male in a sci-fi movie is way hard to choose. They were all great performances. If I had to, I’d also go Rockwell because he’s basically the only person in the flick. Coopley was the emotional heart of D9, though. Haley was the best thing about Watchmen, and his final scene is almost worth winning just for that. (“Do it. DO ITTTTT!!!”), and Pine and Urban were perfect as the roles that were hard to inherit in the first place.
