Happy Birthday, Zoe Saldana June 19, 2010

by TrekMovie.com Staff , Filed under: Celebrity, ST09 Cast , trackback

Today is the birthday of Zoe Saldana, the fourth June birthday for members of the new Star Trek crew. The new Uhura is turning 32 years old. We here at TrekMovie want to wish Zoe a big happy birthday.

The New Uhura has a birthday

Zoe Saldana brought sexy and stylish sassiness to her new Uhura. In this first scene, we see that she can stand up to even the cockiest part of young Kirk’s arc.

Back with Kumar for a Christmas Movie

2009 was a breakout year for Zoe Saldana with her roles in Star Trek and Avatar. Since then the actress has picked up accolades such as being named "Face of the Future" as well as one of Maxim’s "Hottest Babes." And her red carpet appearances always generate buzz. Zoe will next be seen in a small role in the heist movie Takers, which comes out in August. She is also in the indie dark comedy Burning Palms which is doing the festival circuit in search of distribution (see trailer below). Her next project is rumored to be as the star of the Luc Besson action film Colombiana.

"Kick-ass" Uhura

Zoe seems to be taking on a lot of action in films like Avatar and The Losers (and possibly Colombiana), prompting some to ask if she is the next Angelina Jolie. The star herself has talked about how she wants to bring some of this action side to her Uhura (see video from Star Trek DVD party below). She apparently has even got JJ Abrams to agree to give her a fight scene in the sequel.

It’s been really fun watching her career build since her small role in Vantage Point, which was the first role I noticed her in.

Happy Birthday, Zoe!

2. Canadian Shane - June 19, 2010

Happy B-day, and really looking forward to seeing your ass, i mean seeing u kiss ass.

3. Mel - June 19, 2010

Happy Birthday!

I am unsure about Uhura kicking ass.

On the one hand, I don’t want to see her as the cliche damsel in distress, as a helpless woman who can’t fight. I think all Starfleet officers are taught at least basic self-defense.

On the other hand I don’t want to see her turned into a black belt expert fighter. She isn’t a security officer. She is a communication officer and usually she shouldn’t get into a situation, where physical fighting is necessary.

Happy B-day Zoe! I love you! =)

Naturally, Zoe will kick-ass as Uhura!!

Zoe, may I spank your ass for your B-day? …plus kiss it, after?

5. Jeyl - June 19, 2010

I don’t know. It takes more than a fight scene to showcase how strong and capable a character can be. Cause in the end, all they did was win a fight that probably had no bearing on anything relevant to the whole scheme of things.

6. Dek - June 19, 2010

I personally think that there needs to be less of Uhura in the entire movie … especially THIS Uhura

7. CmdrR - June 19, 2010

Please Zoe, have some cake. A gal needs her strength if she’s gonna kick some ass.

6 – There IS less Uhura. That’s why I really want her to eat some cake.

Happy Birthday, Zoe/Nuhura!

8. Hugh Hoyland - June 19, 2010

Happy B-day Zoe!

9. red dead ryan - June 19, 2010

I wouldn’t mind seeing Uhura kick ass in the sequel. But McCoy has to be given more screen time. I hope the writers establish the Kirk-Spock-McCoy dynamic first. Then Uhura can have her fight scene.

10. Hateya - June 19, 2010

Happy Birthday, Zoe!

Stay fine and happy! I’m rooting for your kick-ass scene in the next movie! Maybe you and John Cho can kick some booty together.

11. FarStrider - June 19, 2010

@Red dead Ryan: Star Trek was ALWAYS more about Kirk and Spock and as the series went on their relationship with each other was ALWAYS presented as the most important relationship . . .McCoy was always the third wheel, and as the movies went on, he became even more so, and you can count on 1 hand the episodes dealing primarily with him. . .In my view the so-called “triumvirate” kept the other 4 characters from being developed. so for me, in terms of story, moving Uhura up actually creates a better balance.

12. Amorican - June 19, 2010

I love you marry me.

13. Zebonka - June 19, 2010

#11,

With all due respect, that’s pure bunkum. Did you watch the same show as the rest of the world?

14. Richpit - June 19, 2010

Happy Birthday, Zoe.

15. Allen Williams - June 19, 2010

more uhura, scotty, sulu, checkov. I think the only way your going to get me enough content for each character is to make it a 3 hour movie. Oh and whoever said that uhura can’t kick ass because shes communications, your forgetting that hoshi had a black belt and initially got kicked out of star fleet because of it.

16. CarlG - June 19, 2010

Happy Birthday, Zoe!

Can we vote for “brilliant, science-y awesome Uhura” instead? I sure wouldn’t mind seeing more of her, but turning her into action girl seems like the easy way out…

17. www.chrisfawkes.com - June 19, 2010

Happy Birthday Zoe.

Are you sure she is not 22?

I personally think there needs to be less posting by you here.

19. Andrew Goodman - June 19, 2010

Happy Birthday, Zoe Saldana! I enjoyed your roles in the most recent Star Trek film and in Avatar. I look forward to seeing you in the next Star Trek movie in 2012. Hopefully I will be able to see you in person in the near future. Have a great Birthday and a very proserous year ahead.

20. DJT - June 20, 2010

Go Zoe! It’s your birthday!

21. Becky - June 20, 2010

Happy birthday Zoe!
Also, I think you may forgotten to change something when you rewrote this for Zoe instead of John Cho. I don’t think Zoe is coming back with Kumar for a Christmas movie. Unless she is, in which case, nevermind.

22. S. John Ross - June 20, 2010

Hope she had a great birthday.

Hope she gets more and better scenes in the new film … fighty or not-fighty; it’s all good; I’d just like to see her acting powers unleashed on Trek.

23. FarStrider - June 20, 2010

#13 Not to get into an argument, and with all due respect, I watched the shows and movies that actually aired, but without the rose-colored nostalgia glasses; you know, the one where DeForest Kelley was listed as a guest star for the entire first season. . . the one where most of Dr. McCoy’s defining characteristics originally belonged to Dr. Boyce. . .

Happy Birthday, Zoe!

Happy birthday, Zoe!

28. Kavinsky - June 20, 2010

No – Make love not war Uhura? god that sounds cheezy

as long as the script is 100% locially sound, compelling and well writen like star trek 2 without using khan in the story she can have her fight scene

29. Admiral Archer's Prized Beagle - June 21, 2010

More pics, please.

30. captain_neill - June 23, 2010

Although I will always prefer Nichelle as Uhura, Zoe still did a good job for the most part in the role.

A belated happy birthday.
