Over the last few days there is a clever musical Star Trek mashup that has gone viral in a big way. The vid takes the song "Tik Tok" from pop singer Ke$sha and reimagines it with the original Star Trek. Check it out below.

One thing that always impresses me is how clear and colorful and crisp the tos episodes all look for how old they are its incredible….After all the years we spent looking at cut up lousy looking reruns on the local syndicated channels worn down and looking lousy even on our tvs back then, now it is fresh and colorful and clearer than we ever saw it on those syndicated channels….good restoration work….not even counting the new cgi scenes…

What sticks out to me is the color. The cinematographer for those shows had a hell of a lot of fun; the walls are all soaked with colored light. Despite the cheap budget, it’s far more interesting than a busy background.
This pretty much sums up how ridiculous the original series was. Am I the only one who noticed that most of the clips used were from some of the series’s most awkward moments?
Still hate Kesha, but the video was done well. It’s nice to mix Trek with a bit of pop culture.
get ready people, because if they choose to, The Supreme Court could decide for the next film to release a Songs Inspired By album connected to the film… who knows, they might for last year’s film still…therefore this Ke$ha mashup could be a portent of things to come…
LOL! I hate that song…but the vid was fun. About the only thing redeeming about the song, imo.
Funniest part: At 1:07 the songs says “boys try to touch our junk” and Kirk has his hand on Spocks pecs right at that moment. Can’t get that out of my head now. Curses.

YES!! Tellin it like it is. Unfortunately there are people out there who are seemingly incapable of drawing the line between light hearted humour and perceptual reality.
How could anyone get all defensive and uptight over something as silly as THIS!? At least it’s Trek getting some mainstream attention.

It’s ok. The best mash-up by far is “Closer” by Nine Inch Nails, with scenes from ST:TOS. What if they hadn’t made it to Vulcan in time…
I don’t like the song but boy do those clips underscore the variety, imagination and sheer energy that TOS had. No wonder it reigns supreme!

In regards to the color, RCA owned NBC and it was in their interest to get lots of color on the screen so people would buy color TVs that were just coming out then. At least that what I read in a book somewhere, that everything in regards to color was premeditated and was done for that exact reason– sell RCA color TVs
It’s not that I dislike the video – the clip choice is excellent – but I simply can’t listen to that retarded song for more than 30 seconds.

yuhp-nbc was pushing color at the time the new technology–lots of colored background lights shining thru gels onto backdrops–it does give tos a unique look huh
If clicking on that video means having to listen to that stupid song, I won’t do it.

Um, Ke$ha. Do you realize that staying on key sometimes helps? I mean, damn. I’d prefer to listen to the instrumentation over and over again than listen to that crap she calls singing.

I will admit that I am one of the biggest geeks alive, but I also have an outstanding sense of humor! Do I like the song? No, but it is amusing to see Star Trek edited to it. I don’t think it is in any way insulting to Star Trek. I mean, really… I love Trek, and I will defend it on its merits, but it’s still entertainment. Let us not place it so high that we begin to worship it.
This is no worse than the Simpsons opening with the damned song.

Seeing TOS in its original glory reminds me that when I originally saw it (I was really small), the words IN COLOR were prominent in the ads for the show. In fact, I first saw it in black and white, and did not see it in color until the mid-seventies, when the local NBC station started doing afternoon reruns.
The choices of color and lighting were deliberate- they were meant to sell color TV sets!
Ah, Star Trek… is there nothing you cant do? You take that lame-ass Kesha song and make it into something fun…
