Although I am a very avid Trek fan, I am also a very avid Star Wars fan, ESPECIALLY of the Jedi. The God Hates Jedi sign guy has now pissed me off. LOL, not really. Actually, I thought it was kind of funny, but still, I am both a Wars and Trek fan and at current I like one as much as the other so it’s equaled out you could say.

I like the comment about their not being performing monkeys. That’s exactly correct, in my view. Really, I’ve been in front of large-ish audiences before (public speaking, for example, and who hasn’t?), and it’s not a lot of fun. Waiting around for people to get to you while you hear and say the same thing over and over must not necessarily be fun, either.

I now get the feeling that Spiner was in fact miffed, and not joking. I get that feeling because I saw another YouTube offering in which he unmistakeably verbalized to a photographer that he did not wish to be photographed, apparently at the same convention.

It wasn’t a nice experience for the autograph-seekers, perhaps, but the entire situation could have been avoided had someone posted a sign saying, “Absolutely NO photography without prior payment,” or something to that effect.

Actors are human beings. Highly paid or not (and many are not), they have feelings, too.

I also saw another video in which he gave a funny and responsive speech, taking questions from the audience. He seemed very relaxed. Perhaps he does better in that format than sitting around signing autographs.

I’ve heard that people like Frakes and Wang are great at autograph-signings, and more power to them. I really respect that, as well.

Spiner is still an okay dude in my book.

I’ve never been to a convention so I have no experience in the matter, i really don’t understand the obsession with getting that autograph over having a nice memory of just saying “hello, how ya doin,”, it’s sad to hear fans can get obnoxious or rude over this, anyways you had a nice experience meeting Brent, so i take it back, he sounds like a decent guy…

No more rude than someone sticking a camera in one’s face and telling them (not asking them) to “do something!” I thought the ’stare-down’ was kind of an appropriate response to that kind of rudeness. As for the ‘offended parties’ in the video, I’m sure they got their autographs.

I too, met Spiner and the others at Comic Con this year as well, and they were very friendly and humorous. Spiner even gave a knuckle bump! I think it depends on how THEY are treated as well. We fans often seem to forget that these are people and not performing monkeys.

I find that most negative experiences tend to occur when fans are rude, pushy or obnoxious (as sadly, they can often be at Comic Con). Treat people with respect, begin your greet meet with a “how are you doing today?” rather than a “sign there, and write this when you do!”

A little respect for people can go a long way! ; )

I met Adrienne at con, while she was stalking a hot chick in a star trek outfit to get a picture with her. She is a nerd, and has every right to do what we all do. She was friendly, and took pictures with everyone. She was not there to work, just to have fun. Why is that bad? As far as their being far hotter leia’s Hello? Have you SEEN that body? My God! Meeting her while she was nerding out was the highlight of the con for me!

Shatner and Nimoy were very friendly when I got their autographs. I said thank you after they signed my pic, and Leonard even said a Thank you to me. Nice moment!!

You can pretty much figure out how well-off these celebrities are by the number of times a year they attend conventions. In a case like Shatner’s, Nimoy, Stewart, etc. al., you’ll only see them at a convention when it is to promote a current project, because, obviously, they don’t need it to make a living. In a case like comic-con, it is such a media event that it attracts stars tied to upcoming studio projects like no other sci-fi or comic book convention. It is really singular in that regard.
