One thing Star Trek always excelled at since TMP was the special effects and the ship designs. From the Enterprises, to Klingon and Romulan battleships, to Borg cubes and Dominion warships, the ship designs have always been top notch. A lot of credit goes to Rick Sternbach, John Eaves and Doug Drexler, (as well as the production design of Herman Zimmerman) among many others. While many have complained about the Berman years, I rarely hear anyone complain about how the ships looked.

I tried watching the video, but they were choppy on my computer. I will try again to see if it is better.

Man. I just watched that again.

Those Ships of the Line animated shots (at the end of the video) looks SPECTACULAR!!!!! I bow to your greatness you SOTL animators.
That shuttle fleeing in front of the D-7 was awesome!
A must see. In HD it was beautiful.

Jial2001, the video is three-quarters of the way down the page.

Go there NOW!!!!

Applause!!!!!!

Impressive ideed.
Really freaks me thatthe big E would ever let a Klingon Crusier get s-o-o-o close.

But, then I remember STVI and it seems real similar.

54--

One small correction: while the footage in "A Night in 1969" is largely the original FX sequence featured in this video, it features the small shuttlepod rather than the Galileo, since the ship used obviously had to match the original live photography. ("1969" also restores Doug Drexler's rendering of futurist Jacque Fresco's design for an oceanic city as the site of the Babel conference--quite a personal kick for me, as Dr. Fresco is an old acquaintance of mine.)

The Klingon / Shuttle footage was done for "To Serve all My Days", then discarded in favor of different effects (featuring a Klingon Bird of Prey), only to be returned in Cawley's "1969" re-release of the episode.

What is that ship that's in the foreground in that scene with the Enterprise-D moving in the Z-axis? It looks semi-transparent to me.

The Enterprise J was first seen in a third season episode of "Enterprise".
Can't remember which one, but it was seen in one of the last shows of that season.

#37 - The footage of the Enterprise-J was actually a re-use of the CGI they rendered for the STAR TREK EVOLUTIONS Blu-ray bonus disc. She looks mighty purty in full 1080p/24. They also had some great footage of the other Enterprises except an all-too-fleeting glimpse of the Enterprise-C.
