Comments on: Ensign Sue Must Die – Strips 18 & 19

The style of the artwork reminds me of Bill Watterson’s, for some reason. He was the cartoonist behind “Calvin & Hobbes,” one of the best comic strips ever written.

If I had my fantasy Trek cartoon team, it would a combination of Watterson’s wry sense of humor and Scott Adam’s knowledge or fanship of Trek. (Scott Adams is known for “Dilbert,” and has even acted in Babylon 5, as I recall.) Watterson can draw some very realistic cartoons, and he already has a penchant for making Calvin a spacefarer (in his guise as “Spaceman Spiff.”) Sadly, Watterson has been retired from cartooning for some time.

However, I also like the style seen here, in “Ensign Sue Must Die.” More, please.

No, #13, I’m totally with you.

I agree that the artwork is OK, if a bit childish, but the writing is atrociously bland.

15. I agree. Trek Life wasn’t funny at all. Every strip had the Orion Slave Girl in it.

I’ve read the book, the ending is pretty great.

…boy i dont know…if it were drawn in more of a “Mad magazine” style, maybe the writing would better compliment the art. But as it is, it’s way more cute than funny. And “cute” is something I never, ever, want anywhere close to Star Trek.

#10 I’m a lousy typist. Just like Ensign Sue would be! And hey a good point came up. If the book has a limited issue of skits, being popular we may see Ensign Sue Vol 2 I hope. Don’t end it.
As for age appropriate, I carefully look over each skit and choose only the “family friendly” ones to share with my grandkids. So I think there is something for every one.

I seem to be the lone person who doesn’t find this strip funny at all. The artwork is well done (if in a generic Garfield way), but the writing is woefully un-inspired.
