Epic Star Trek Vegas Con Starts Next Week – TrekMovie Will Be There w/ Coverage, Panel & Meet-up

Next week is the big annual Creation Official Star Trek convention in Las Vegas and it has shaped up to be another epic extended weekend from August 4th-8th at the Las Vegas Hilton. TrekMovie will be there as well, and we will be doing a panel and a meet-up. See below for your primer for Star Trek Con 2010.

Trek Con 2010 – Shatner, Nimoy, Stewart & 70 guests!

The celebrity guest list for the Star Trek con this year is just massive, here are some of the daily highlights from the newly released Schedule:

  • Thursday: Walter Koenig, George Takei, John de Lancie + TOS & TNG guest star panels & more
  • Friday: DS9 day with Avery Brooks, Armin Shimerman, Rene Aubergenois, Nana Visitor, Aron Esignberg, Marc Alaimo, Andy Robinson, Jeffrey Combs, Solome Jens + more panels

All the Trek stars are appearing on stage and will be available for photos and autographs as well. They will also be appearing at a number of special events (breakfasts, lunches and evening parties. In addition to the celebrity panels there are also panels on science, a writing workshop with David Gerrold, a photography seminar with Leonard Nimoy and more. Parties and special events are usually with an additional fee or are part of a package.

TrekMovie Panel, Record Attempt & PropWorx Auction.

There is much more to a Trek con than just celebrities. There is of course the huge dealer room which will have lots of Trek goodies to buy. There are also a number of special events and even a second Ballroom with plays, lectures on writing, science and more. Here are some highlights I am most looking forward to:

FRI: TREKMOVIE PANEL
On Friday at 11:40 in the DeForest Kelley Theater will be the "TrekMovie Star Trek From A Fan’s Perspective" panel. I will be hosting alongside Larry Nemecek, DVD Geeks’ hostess Mary Czerwinski (aka Televixen), and TrekCast co-host Darren Benjamin (aka QuarksBartender). I will be giving an overview on the first movie and status of the Star Trek sequel, and open it up to a discussion with the audience and the "superfans" about the new Star Trek movies. Last year’s panel was well attended with lots of great audience discussions, hopefully this year will be just as fun. [UPDATE: Darren may not be able to make it, but former Star Trek: The Experience cast-member Vernon Wilmer has been added]

SAT: RECORD ATTEMPT
Saturday evening will see the usual Star Trek Costume contest, but on Saturday morning there will be another attempt to break the Star Trek fans in costume record. The attempt will be made at 9:00 AM to 9:45 (meet at the DeForest Kelley Theater).

SUN: AUCTION
On Sunday the entire day in Pavilion 6 is devoted to a special Star Trek PropWorx Star Trek auction including original props and costumes used in the production of various Star Trek television series and movies. The collection includes items from the collections of Rick Sternbach and Mike and Denise Okuda and more. There will also be pieces from Star Trek: The Experience. Details at http://www.propworx.com.

More events and special panels listed at creationent.com/cal/stlv.

TrekMovie Meetup & Roddenberry Party

In the evenings Creation has a number of special events for those who hold some of the special packages. In addition there are two events you may want to check out that are free.

WED: TrekMovie/DVD Geeks/TrekCast meet-up
On Wednesday starting at 8:00 PM (and going until it is time to go) TrekMovie.com, TrekCast and DVD Geeks are holding an informal meetup at the Spacequest Bar in the Hilton hotel. This is a casual event and you have to pay for your own drinks, but you can give us a piece of your mind and/or just relax and get ready for Con week with your fellow Trekkies.

THU: Roddenberry Party on Risa
Roddenberry Productions will have their usual presence at the Star Trek con, with a big island booth in the vender room, and Rod Roddenberry is also doing a panel on Friday. In addition, Roddenberry Productions is holding a "Party on Risa" at 9:30 to 12:30 at the Mirage (unfortunately this party is at capacity).

TrekMovie coverage

As we do every year, TrekMovie.com will be covering the event with live blogging and photos here and on Twitter, as well as daily wrap-ups and additional reporting and interviews. So stay tuned to TrekMovie.com for your source of all Star Trek news coming out of Vegas next week.

Con Tickets still available

Advanced tickets for the Creation Star Trek con are still available, but will be shut off on Sunday at 5PM Pacific. After that you can still buy tickets at the event.

Ben looking forward to this for… well, a year now. See you guys there!

I wish I could be there, but I will be out of the country. It sounds like it will be a great event.

Really looking forward to this! A bunch of members of Stonewall Fleet (Star Trek Online) will be in attendence for a real life meet up!

See you there and live long and prosper!

A bunch of us from TrekSpace have been planing a MeetUp at the SpaceQuest Bar for over a month. Glad to have you “Late Comers” join us.
lol

TrekMovie stated “Saturday morning there will be another attempt to break the Star Trek fans in costume record. The attempt will be made at 9:00 AM (location TBA).

But on the Creation Web Site, it states that First meet in the DeForest Kelley Theater: PAVILIONS 2-3 for validation starting at 9:00 AM.
Once approved for inclusion in the attempt, we will allow you into the theater and then gather for a validating photo and video.

Time is scheduled from 9:00AM to 9:45 AM.

Also Appearing in the DeForest Kelley Theater: PAVILIONS 2-3,

12:30 pm Remembering STAR TREK: THE EXPERIENCE: We all really miss the wonderful Star Trek attraction that was here at the Hilton for 11 great years! What a run it was. Saturday some of the popular “staff members” join to reminisce with the audience. With staffers: Lysander Abadia, Vernon Wilmer, and April Hebert.

ill be there got gold seats again this year bought tickets the end of last year con

I got Gold Tickets and I look forward to meeting you all there.

You all going to the meet up?

I just want to make nw Trek friends and I hope my posts on here put people off meeting me.

Anyone going to the Party at the Stratosphere?

Wish I could go, but gotta work. Hoist one for me!

I only want one thing (and one thing only!) from TrekMovie.com on your Vegas coverage: Will Sebastion finally meet and find True Love with his Mystery Dream Girl??? Please provide regular updates. If it all works out, then I can die a happy man. ; )

12
Hope it works out for him.

It would also nice if I could find my love at the con.

Ah the dream!

I am a bit confused, why is it the page says Jonathan Frakes is on Sunday with Patrick and Brent yet schedule says he is appearig on Sat?

Why is Brannon Braga down when he is mentioned on the site?

Is there a misprint or a last minute change they forgot to update?

I will be in Las Vegas on August 7th to celebrate my 36th Birthday (2 days early) with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy & Most of the Voyager crew Robert Picardo, Tim Russ, Ethan Phillips, Jennifer Lien, Garrett Wang & Making her first Creation Las Vegas appearance in August! Jeri Ryan.

Happy 15th Anniversary Voyager!

13.

I was being *slightly* sarcastic in that post, but yes I hope it works out for them, you and anyone else looking for love in Vegas! : D

Are single day tickets available at the door??

yes, both General Admission and Single Day Reserved Seating.

Wouldn’t it be great if they gave away a free star autograph to the 2,000th visitor every day or something?

Just a promotional idea.

Have fun everyone–i cannot afford to go-only made it one year back in 06-would luv to attend the remembering the experience event-woulda luved to say hi to april n vernon again–well a virtual hello to you guys anyway–miss ya!

17

I know you were being sarcastic, was being funny as well.

15

Braga was not mentioned on site apart from schedule.

Thought only writer there this year was David Gerrold.

Can anyone confirm…. Is this Bruce Greenwoods first Trek convention ?

#20, last year the captain’s table goodie bag had a scavenger hunt. One stop was an autograph desk where you reached in and grabbed a random signed photo. I scored Jolene Blalock, where the wife got Robert Foxworth. (Admiral Leyton DS9 and General Hague B5)

24

Yes I think it is and Im getting his autograph and photo op. Only paid for the ones so far that I am concerned will sell out, namely Patrick, Jer, Bill and Leonard.

Many others I want but can get them there at con.

I’m really looking forward to this, it is my first big Trek convention, and I’ll be going alone! I initially thought about cancelling when none of my friends were able to make it, but I thought what the hell? It’s not like I won’t meet people there with similar tastes to my own!

Besides, about a week and a half after the convention, I’ll be moving to South Korea on my own to teach English. Going to Vegas myself seems far less daunting when put in that perspective.

Hope to meet many new people there, maybe make some new Trek friends!

Yeah, I’ll be there. Look for me. I looked for you all last year, and didn’t find anyone , except Televixen, she’s so awesome!

25, that’s awesome. Promotions like that help keep the bargain-hunters happy, I would imagine. A great free autograph alone might be worth the price of admission!

Looking forward to meeting you all on Wed night.

Doing my packing and hope I don’t forget anything.

Was going to get Shatner and Nimoy to sign this big photo I got but unfortunately I don’t have room, so I will get a new photo over there.

to bad creation is such a un fan friendly rip off, I wish there was another convention company that would get rid of those people all they care about isgetting everyones money and pretending they care about fans.

My first trek con ever was the vegas convention two years ago, I got to see the Experience before it closed. And now I-m going this year!!! I-m arriving thursday night, so friday will be my first day at the con… any particular place or stand to meet the trekmovie crew?

Alfredo
FRIDAY IN THE DeForest Kelley Theater: PAVILIONS 2-3
11:40 am Star Trek From a Fan’s Perspective: Anthony Pascale, editor of TrekMovie.com, will update the fans on all the latest news, information and rumors on the next Star Trek film, currently in development for a June 29, 2012 release. Anthony and a panel of superfans will also discuss the 2009 Star Trek film and its impact on the franchise, and take questions and comments from the audience in an interactive session.

Televixen Tweeted “It’s official I’m on the panel Star Trek From a Fan’s Perspective at 11:40 am on Fri with @Trekmovie @larrynemecek & Vernon Wilmer. Join us!”

35

Look forward to meeting you.

I pray no bizarre super-fans repeatedly embarrass / annoy the crap out of Koenig by distastefully bringing up his son.

I have a feeling he doesn’t need a 350 pound attendee in a TNG season-1 uniform offering condolences.

@ 37: I hope that doesn’t happen.

I wish Leonard Nimoy was attending the Toronto Fan Expo here in Canada. William Shatner, Michael Dorn and a few other trek vet’s are attending it. If i get the chance, i’ll post up the pictures on some public photo sharing site.

I am going to the Con and look forward to attending the panel and meetup. This is my favorite site and I am excited to meet all of you. Who else is coming? Harry Ballz?

39

Will you be at the meet up on Wed. I look forward to meeting everyone

#37 I think a person who did this would be showing very poor taste, however I think it would be just as bad regardless of their body weight. No need to bash everyone whose matabolism isn’t as high as your own.

Besides……………I look good in that uniform………I look like Riker……..before the beard!

If you can’t make the official Con, the next best thing is Hollywood Xpo in October. There are over 81 guests! The following are just the Star Trek related ones:

http://www.hollywoodxpo.com

Walter Koenig (Friday Only), Nichelle Nichols (Friday Only), Alan Ruck (Friday Only), Tim Russ (Friday Only), Jonathan Frakes (Saturday Only), Michael Dorn (Saturday Only), Rene Auberjonois (Saturday Only), Connor Trinneer (Sunday Only), Cirroc Lofton (Friday & Saturday Only), Robert Duncan McNeil (Sunday Only), John Billingsley (Sunday Only), Dominic Keating (Sunday Only), Catherine Hicks, Nicole de Boer, Gary Graham , Vaughn Armstrong , J.G. Hertzler, Richard Herd, Casey Biggs, Rod Roddenberry, Ronald B. Moore, Steve Rankin, Grace Lee Whitney, Crystal Allen, Suzie Plakson, Manu Intiraymi, William Wellman, Jr., Daamen J. Krall , Celeste Yarnall (Friday Only), Arlene Martel (Friday Only), Doug Drexler (Saturday Only), Larry Nemecek , Tanya Lamani George , Roger Nygard , Rick Sternbach, Anthony Pascale, Ethan Calk,, Jack Trevino , John Broughton, Michael Struck , Scott Nakada
Sujit Pal, Tim Vittetoe, Trevor Roth

(Hope you don’t mind the plug Anthony)

I’ll be there, had my Cpt Chairs ticket for months and will be attending the Spacequest bash on Wednesady night to start it out right…with a few adult beverages.

I hope that Terry (bartender at Spacequest bar) will be serving Quarks-like drinks like they did last year, While not the same as drinks in STTE, this was just as good and I was glad to see the Hilton do that for the fans. TrekCast had the party last year and that was the best night (money-wise) that Space Quest has ever done including News Years Eve.

It will be nice to be there and I hope to see everyone there who can attend.

I can’t wait to see old friends and make new ones again this year! See you at the Khaaaan!

I was there for the 40th in 2006, I will try to make in 2016 for the big 50th!

#40 Capt. Neill
I will be at the meetup. Looking forward to meeting you and other Trekmovie people.

46.

2016? They’ll have to bring in all the surviving TOS cast in wheelchairs! Have fun! : )

I’ll be there!
