VIDEO: Watch Zoe Saldana’s New Calvin Klein Underwear Commercials

Zoe Saldana is the latest Star Trek star to appear in a TV commercial campaign. But unlike other Trek vets, she is only wearing underwear – which is what she is pitching. Below we share the three new Zoe Saldana Calvin Klein underwear commercials and a behind the scenes video as well. Zoe also talks about how she is no wilting flower in a new interview, excerpts of that below as well.

Zoe’s Envy Campaign

Star Trek’s new Uhura stars in three new Calvin Klein Underwear commercials promoting their new Envy line. In them, Zoe Saldana reveals tidbits about herself. CKU has put all three on YouTube in HD, check em out.

"Zoe Reveals"

"Zoe Shares"

"Zoe Uncovers"

And finally, CK also has posted a behind the scenes video (this one is in color).

Zoe: no damsel in distress

In other Zoe Saldana news, in a new interview she continues her campaign to let the world know she is no damsel in distress. The actress tells The Scotsman:

"Hollywood has made a living out of portraying women as needing to be rescued all the time because we’re so incompetent," she sniffs, and it seems unlikely we’ll see her clucking helplessly under Gerard Butler’s gaze any time soon. "I’d rather quit this business than constantly play the girlfriend of the action hero," she says.

"Because in reality, if Spider-Man was always coming to my rescue, I’d get to the point of saying, ‘Come on, man, I can do it myself!’"

Zoe has shown she is ready for action in Avatar, The Losers and Takers (currently in theaters). The actress is also currently at work starring in the Luc Besson action movie Colombiana, due out in 2011. And she is hoping to tack this "kick ass" style to the 2012 Star Trek sequel – she has even said that JJ Abrams has promised her a fight scene.

WOW!

Pass the tissue.

I love Zoe to death and she is hot. But these videos are incredibly cheesy…

this is terrible! How corny and who gives a rat’s hindquarters what she thinks? LOL! These have to be some of the worst Star Trek ad campaigns I have ever seen, next to maybe Shat’s Commodore 64 commercials. They make no sense, it would be different if they had a BIG name like Joan Collins in her prime or Liz Taylor, or even recent people, she is not big name talent so, who cares what she says?

Cheesy, and honestly, i don’t find her all that attractive, but that’s just me.

Oh. My. God. Thank you, Lord, for making me a man so that I may enjoy your bountiful gifts. Amen.

zzzzzzz

I sense some hostility toward Zoe for her role in these, shall we say, slightly more risque activities. I wonder why? Is it that Star Trek is considered exclusively nerd territory and sex appeal is unnecessary?

I think she is entitled to make money in Hollywood through these and other mainstream commercial activities despite what moral purists might say. That’s as American as apple pie.

I never understood why you shoot underwear videos in black and white?

WOW!!!!! HOT!!!!

Speaking of apple pie. Somebody should get her some. That woman is good looking but she’s way too damn skinny. We need to steer young girls AWAY from the anorexic look.

Zoe looks magnificent… but, PLEASE don’t try to sound all deep and sh*t when you’re standing around in your underwear. Just know you look good. Save the pop-philosophy for later, when you’re buying the drinks.

I agree with #11 and #12.

“Love is a devil” Hm, I wonder why they had her say that besides it being about Shakespeare.

I didn’t like these commercials, just because they were cheesy. You can literally lick the cheese off of Zoe, guys.

I’m getting so tired of her. She doesn’t have nearly the class that Nichele Nichols has. She is a good looking woman but with her mouth and sleazy attitude I can do without her. She’s getting too much exposure ( no pun intended)

The attempt to marry serious dialogue and superficial appearance here are as incongruous as her character and rank/post in the film.

I agree with those saying she’s not so hot, and needs to eat. Miss Saldana is by no means an ugly woman, but she could stand to eat a bit more, and she’s not really worth raving over.
I wonder too if Nichele Nichols would do something like this, or would have back in the day. Something tells me she wouldn’t have.

And yeah, don’t be all deep and thoughtful when you’re in your underwear.

I think she looks just fine. She’s probably naturally svelte.

Also, the 1960’s model Twiggy was thin, I agree, but not Zoe Saldana.

Re: Overexposure: Sometimes we forget that she’s famous not only for Trek, but also for Avatar. She’s pretty big regardless of how many commercials she’s in.

Also, we should probably stop comparing her to Nichelle Nichols. After all, do we compare Anton Yelchin to Walter Koenig? These are different people.

Also, I’m old enough to remember the secretary, Peggy, in Mannix. Peggy played a very middle-class idea of a secretary. Neither the actor who played her nor Nichelle, probably, would have done some of these more risque shoots, but then we must realize that they lived and worked during a different time, with different mores, and possibly something to prove, besides (e.g., that women weren’t sex objects).

Boney and over-rated.

Underewar???

LOL, someone can’t spell.

In before lens flares!

#17 – Who knows what Nichelle would have said. Different times and most of all, they are different people. Besides, the ads are clearly tongue-in-cheek. Why are people taking them so seriously?

#18 – Zoe is naturally thin. You don’t see bones jutting out or other nasty things that the truly skinny runway models have. It’s stupid that people think a couple trips to McDonalds is going to turn her into Christina Hendricks.

#23

Agreed. There’s only two—I mean ONE Christina Hendricks. ;)

And, no, that was not a reference to Christina Hendricks’ weight. ;)

It’s really disheartning to see people slagging on Zoe, especially since none of you know her personally. . . I love Nichelle. . . she is a beautiful, amazing woman. . .I love Zoe, she seems like she would be a fun person to hang around. . . but before anyone else says something like “Something tells me that Nichelle wouldn’t have done anything like this”. . . I think you should look here: http://cryptofyesteryear.blogspot.com/2009/05/tv-icon-nichelle-nichols-as-urhura-on.html or here: http://xiandubagua.spaces.live.com/?_c11_BlogPart_BlogPart=blogview&_c=BlogPart&partqs=cat%3DHeroes%2520S2 (scroll down to Oct 26-29). . . oooooh. . . you can see her ribs!!

Then get come back to this thread. . .

~FS

If you’ll excuse me… I need to be alone.

Okay!
Still have the same opinion about Zoe but lost respect for Nichelle!

@28 Why would you lose respect for Nichelle? she was beautiful. . .It was the 60s and 70s. . . free love, sexual revolution, women’s liberation and all that whatnot. . . almost all Hollywood starlets from that time had naked pictures somewhere. . . that was how the game was played. . . why would she be any different?

Maybe you should stop putting people on pedestals. . . that way it won’t hurt so much when they get knocked off. . .

~FS

Damn. DAMN.

Those would make me misspell “underwear” too.

Meanwhile, I’m astonished that so many of you don’t seem to understand what a Calvin Klein ad campaign is, and that these things are called “commercials” and are in fact scripted by writers who are paid to do so.

I mean, come on, people.

Are there no longer actresses in Hollywood that don’t take their clothes off to do risque (and some would say blatantly sexist and degrading) advertisements? Is Zoe Saldana afraid of not finding work if she doesn’t sell her body?

I’m not against the notion of looking at scantily clad women once in awhile, but too much of a good thing is a bad thing. Beauty and sexiness should most definitely be appreciated and celebrated, but not to the point that it is at now in our current pop culture climate. These days it has become an unhealthy obsession.

This is is DEFINITELY not directed towards the site (as Anthony reports on whatever the various current and former Trek actors are doing, which he should) nor am I condemning any of the folks who enjoyed these ads ( I admit that I did as well, though with a few reservations).

The point that I’ve been trying to make is that many actresses in Hollywood strip down and bare it all in the name of fame and money.
At least some of them feel the intense pressure to feel and look sexy by having a great looking body. And let’s be honest, there are a lot of sleazebag Hollywood producers that expect women to look a certain way.
I would like for everyone to think of Zoe Saldana as a talented actress who did the character of Uhura justice with her beauty being a bonus and not a prerequisite for getting the job.

Or it may be that I have become old, bitter and cynical at 29. :-I

Calvin Klein ads are iconic. . . people have been getting nearly naked in them since 15-year-old Brooke Shields said “Nothing comes between me and my Calvins”. . . and in the 90s Markie Mark starred in thousands of teenaged girls fantasies. . . Acting/modeling is selling a fantasy. . . when did Star Trek fans forget that the Theiss Titillation Theory was a big factor in the TOS? http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheissTitillationTheory These ads are no worse than you’d see on a beach. . . please stop with the moralizing. . .

~FS

32

Ryan, you’re certainly not old! :>)

There should be laws against a girl being that awesome.

34

Alright, Harry, maybe I’m just bitter and cynical! :-)

Underewar???

36

Believe me you’re not the only one and I’m 28. So, welcome to the club. ;-)

Oh and just so you know, I agree with your opinion to 100%.

Spock approves.

To all the people saying she’s too skinny..

You’re too fat.

:)

“she has even said that JJ Abrams has promised her a fight scene.”

It’s not great that a movie that doesn’t even exist yet already has problems.

Did anyone notice the little Star Trek reference in the A Team movie?
During the scene where the team break Murdock out of the mental institution in Germany, the patients are watching a fake 3d movie “The Great Escape” After the movie title, the first cast credit that comes up is “Reginald Barclay”, a little tribute to David Schultz.

I don’t understand what the big deal is the commercial or what Ms. Saldana is wearing.

Have any of you been to the beach lately? Beachwear these days is not much more than underwear — and is sometimes considerably less.

It is not a bad thing to show one’s pulchritude if one has it. Sure, beauty is only skin deep, but it’s still beauty, ain’t it?

Wow, some of those photos of Nichelle Nichols are definitely NSFW (not safe for work).

I don’t care that she makes underwear commercials. She could make pictures for the playboy and I would be perfectly ok with this.

Nevertheless I must say I find the commercials ridiculous. They are very cheesy. She is talking nonsense the whole time. What she is saying in those videos, has nothing to do with underwear!

26

Thanks….just thanks. :-D

@44 Sorry for the NSFW pictures, Hat Rick. . . but, some people in this thread were pretending that Nichelle Nichols was some sort of saint instead of a flesh and blood woman who had to do things in order to eat and have a career. Zoe has done nothing wrong by agreeing to star in a Calvin Klein ad campaign, pop culturally, it’s quite prestigious . . . It’s just strange to me that whenever there’s a Zoe Saldana article on this site, the “haters” come out in droves. . .’she’s to skinny’ ‘she’s not classy’ ‘get the girl a hamburger’. . . None of the other new actors get piled on as much as Zoe, and she hasn’t done anything to deserve this vitriol. . .

~FS

47, not a problem. I’m with you on your quest to make sure that Zoe Saldana doesn’t suffer the same fate as so many science fiction actresses who are consigned to a niche that ultimately suffocates.

It was interesting to me to see Ms. Nichols’ other side, so to speak. It proves that personalities evolve, sometimes to such an extent that we forget, or never know, of those parts of personality that do not speak to our preconceptions.

I think that all of us love Star Trek, here at TrekMovie.com. But do we love it enough to embrace its central creed of infinite diversity? That, I doubt.

But we live in an imperfect world.

Zoe: If I told you you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?

@49 Not while she’s holding her body against me! ;-)
