Happy Birthday, Walter Koenig

Today (Tuesday September 14th) is the birthday for Star Trek’s original Pavel Chekov. Walter Koenig turns 74 today and all of us at TrekMovie wish Walter a very happy birthday. We have some fun from Trek’s Russian below and take a look at what Walter is up to these days.

A Wery Happy Birthday

He didn’t join the original Star Trek until the second season, but Walter Koenig’s Pavel Chekov quickly fit in to the Trek pantheon. His character, modeled somewhat on Davey Jones of the Monkeys…but Russian, brought some more comedy to the show. Here are some of his famous Russian-isms.

And who can forget this moment from Star Trek IV

Walter’s new Vampires and Robots

Even at 74, Walter is still working. His latest projects focus on writing. He has a new post-apocalyptic vampire graphic novel coming out next year called "Things To Come" (see our exclusive preview).

Happy birthday, Walter!

Happy Birthday Walter thanks for making my birthdays great with star trek

When I heard how old (old?) he turned today
I could hardly believe it – 74? is that right? He
has always seemed so young. Incredible!

Walter has always been & continues to be
a class act in the Trek and entertainment
world.

If you haven’t checked him out in New Voyages
or Of Gods and Men, I certainly encourage it.
He did a superior job in both.

Congratulations, Mr. Koenig, on the occasion of your birthday. May you live another 74 years in good health!

Happy birthday sir!

Happy birthday, Walter!

Happy Birthday Mr. Koenig! :}

Happy Birthday Walter Koenig!
(I have my birthday the day before, on Sept 13th)

Happy Birthday!

Here’s to many more.

Let me add that I briefly met Mr Koenig during a random encounter.

Being the super nerd that I am I couldn’t help but introduce myself to him. He couldn’t have been kinder or more thoughful. He was truly a class act. I’m sure most celebrites wouldn’t have given me (I was a kid at the time) the time of day.

He’s had a rough year, poor guy.

And although I had a less-than-cordial run in with him once (sort of the opposite of #20’s experience), I still wish him better times ahead and admire him for his stoicism in the wake of his family tragedy.

All the best, WK. ; )

Happy Birthday Walter and Best Wishes.

To that wonderful young Russian Ensign who broke down the 1st barriers of that horrid cold war! Among all the other wonderful contributions that you made in trek plus! A blessed Birthday to you ! With many more to come! 74 yrs old? No way! People count Bdays age backwards you actualy look it. My prayers and best wishes go also to your family too. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Pavel…erh Walter!!

“Nuclear Wessel”!!!!!!

Congrats Walter! 74 is the new 54!

Happy Birthday, “George”! :)

Happy Birthday and best wishes Walter!

Thank you for all your years of entertaining us.

My birthday is tomorrow, go Virgo power!

Heppy Beerthdee! (or however that should go) Have a great one!

I’ve seen him in passing at the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas, the last one with The Experience (pangs of heartache thinking about that).

He comes across as a very friendly and open.

Happy Birthday and thanks for making millions of people happy with your work over the years!

Happy Birthday Mr. Koenig!

Though you’ll forever be remembered as Chekov, I’ve just started watching through all five seasons of Babylon 5 for the first time and your performance as the sinister PsyCorps agent Bester is absolutely fantastic.

Your performance perfectly conveys Bester’s casual cruelty, as well as his firm belief that his actions are always justified in serving the good of himself and the good of his people. You give just the right balance of sinister intent juxtaposed against a genuine (to him) belief in justice. When he appears to be kind and cordial, you play it perfectly that he is a cruel man playing at being kind and cordial.

Note perfect every time. You should get more accolades for that role!

It was a pleasure to meet him and get a photo op with him at the recent Vegas ST CON. I think it was very good for him to be at the CON considering what he and his wife have been through earlier in the year.

But we got to meet him in the elevator at the LV Hilton as we were heading down. The door opened up and there he was. I got to talk to him about a mutual friend of ours that we both know. He was very kind and open with my wife and I.

I meet Jon Povil (assoc producer on ST TMP) in the casino while playing the ST Slot machine. Jon told a great story regarding Walter after that film was made.

Happy Birthday Walter and many more to come!

Happy Birthday Walter. Your contribution to The original series was significant. Wishing you many happy returns for the United Kingdom.
