Teri Hatcher cast as Lois Lane’s mother + more Smallville S10 news & previews
Here’s some pretty cool "Smallville" season 10 casting news: Teri Hatcher has been cast as Lois Lane’s mother. Hatcher, of course, played Lois Lane herself in the 1993-97 ABC series "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman". Here’s the report, courtesy EW’s Michael Ausiello:
Congrats, Smallville—you have outdone yourself! For the show’s 10th and final season, producers have scored perhaps their biggest (maybe even the biggest possible) casting coup: They’ve snagged erstwhile Lois Lane Teri Hatcher to play mom to Erica Durance’s Lois Lane!
I know what you’re thinking: But Lois’ mom, Ella, is dead! Follow along now…
In episode 8, titled “Abandoned,” Lois discovers old videotapes of her mother. I think you can figure the rest out for yourself. Am I right?

Solid debut for NBC’s The Event + previews & details for S1
"The Event" is one of the few new genre/sci-fi shows this season, and while the jury is still out on whether it’ll be able to hold its audience, there were some encouraging signs in its series debut numbers. The show debuted on Monday night with 10.88 million viewers and a 3.6 A18-49 rating (un-fazed by its considerably weaker "Chuck" lead-in). More importantly, however, was the fact that the episode grew in audience over the course of the hour-long episode:
- 9:00-9:15 — 10.31M viewers / 3.3 A18-49 rating
- 9:15-9:30 — 10.93M viewers / 3.6 A18-49 rating
- 9:30-9:45 — 10.73M viewers / 3.6 A18-49 rating
- 9:45-10:00 — 11.54M viewers / 3.9 A18-49 rating
That’s growth of 12 and 18 percent, respectively, from the first 1/4 hour to the last 1/4 hour. Keeping viewers engaged will not be easy, especially with this type of show. That’s why the network and producers have indicated that answers will be more forthcoming than perhaps is expected of such a show, something confirmed by Fancast’s review of the next two episodes:
“Rest assured, questions will be answered – and not just with more questions! What happened to the vanishing plane? Answered. Who – or what – is capable of pulling off such a feat? Answered again! We’ll also learn who’s responsible for kidnapping Leila (even if their true motivations remain hidden). Oh, and those prisoners up on the snowy Alaska mountain? We’ll discover precisely why the government has been keeping them behind bars for oh so long. Finally, keep your eyes peeled for a creepy twist ending in Episode 3 that will send chills – yes chills – up your spine.”

We also have the titles for episodes three and four: "Protect Them From the Truth" and "A Matter of Life and Death" (which will mark the debut appearance of Hal Holbrook as the "mysterious character" named Dempsey), respectively. "The Event" airs Monday night’s at 9:00 p.m. on NBC.

Jane Badler talks about her role in the new V
Jane Badler, who was recently cast as Diana, mother to Morena Baccarin’s character Anna on "V", confided to TV Guide that she had to fight to get the role on the show:
"From the moment I heard V was coming back, it was something I was hoping to be part of, but they tested a lot of people for this role," confides Jane from the Vancouver set. "A lot of years have passed, so it feels good to win something."
New details have also emerged about her role on the show. TV Guide reports that when the show returns this November, we’ll see "imprisoned on the mother ship in a cell designed to look like the reptilian visitors’ home planet."
"I’m the queen in exile, locked away in a dungeon for 15 years," says Jane. "It’s mother abuse!"
"V" season two is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 on ABC.

Jonathan Frakes set to direct an episode of Chuck this season + more Chuck news & previews
Jonathan Frakes told StarTrek.com that he will be directing an episode for the fourth season of NBC’s "Chuck":
I’m in prep on The Good Guys, and after I finish it I’ll go to NCIS: Los Angeles to do another one of those. Then I’ll do another Castle. Then I’ll go to Chuck. What a blessing this year has been.

- "Chuck" premiered this Wednesday to the tune of 5.79 million viewers and a 2.0 A18-49 rating. Although that was down significantly from last season’s special Sunday debut (7.45M / 2.9 rating), it wasn’t all negative. In fact, the show improveed over the season three finale by 16% among viewers (5.01M to 5.79M) and 11% in A18-49 rating (1.8 to 2.0).

Steven Moffat talks Doctor Who Christmas special and season six
"Doctor Who" showrunner Steven Moffat was interviewed for "Doctor Who The Brilliant Book 2011" — which is releasing later this month — and in the interview talked about what he has planned for the Christmast special and season six [via SFX]
“This one’s incredibly Christmassy. That’s true of the previous ones but I wanted to go for broke. It’s easily the most Christmassy thing you’ll ever see. It’s a huge, sentimental, lovely, jeopardy-driven story. It’s the Christmas special I’d like to see. It’s like a compilation of every Christmas movie. A big Christmas treat. But that doesn’t mean it’s without scares, and that doesn’t mean it’s without heartbreak. It has genuine tragedy in it.”
And here’s what he had to say about the sixth season, hinting that season six will involve a more wide-spreading mystery:
“Nothing will be left hanging forever. Some things will be addressed relatively quickly. We’re going into the silence and what they [out italics] are… There’s been a sort of tradition, which I semi-followed through with the crack, of there just being a sort of meme through the series, and I think, actually, a bigger mystery and a bigger story is possible now. I’m going to handle it slightly differently next year.”
Moffat also revealed that we’ll discover the true identity of River Song: "That’s absolutely coming," Moffat said. In other news, BBC has announced that they will release a second batch of installments in the very successful game series "Doctor Who: The Adventure Games" next year.
The audience reaction to the first series has been incredible, but we want to outdo the first series in every way. We want to take players on journeys which will bring the show to life like never before, and once again offer outstanding interactive drama to fans of all ages.

Fringe executive producers would invite Leonard Nimoy’s back + more Fringe news
Executive producers Jeff Pinkner and J.H. Wyman say that despite the events of the season two finale, nothing is final in the world of "Fringe" and they would invite Leonard Nimoy (William Bell) back if he wanted:
“Leonard Nimoy has retired from acting,” says Pinkner. “But if Leonard chooses to come back, there is a story in place that we’d love to tell.” Adds Wyman: “I think it’s fair to say that you have not experienced the last of William Bell.”

Stephen Lang cast in Terra Nova
Stephen Lang ("Avatar", "Conan") has been cast in the Steven Spielberg-produced prehistoric time-travel series "Terra Nova". Lang will play the main villain, Frank Taylor, who is described as "the charismatic and ruthless leader of the Terra Nova settlement." In related news, executive producer David Fury has exited the project over creative differences, leaving showrunner Brannon Braga as the sole writing executive producer:
“He was beloved by the producers on the show, but it just didn’t work out,” a source close to the series said. Showrunner Brannon Braga, who brought Fury over, will now be the drama’s sole writing executive producer as no direct replacement for Fury is planned.
"Terra Nova" will premiere in the fall of 2011, but will get a special preview in May 2011 (presumably airing out of "American Idol", like what the network did with "Glee" last season).
Bryan Singer producing online sci-fi thriller H+
Warner Brothers has announced that Bryan Singer is producing an online sci-fi thriller called "H+". Here’s the description courtesy WB:
H+ takes viewers on an episodic two-and-a-half hour, apocalyptic journey into the future where technology has gone horrifically wrong. In 2019, 33% of the world’s population uses a radical new piece of technology – an implanted computer system called H +. This allows a person’s mind and nervous system to be connected to the Internet 24 hours a day.
But that same year, a mysterious and vicious computer virus is released, and within seconds millions of people died — leading to radical changes to the political and social landscape of the planet.
The series is currently in pre-production with shooting expected to commence by the end of the year.
"I’ve had a great relationship with Warners and I’m looking forward to working with them and Dolphin Entertainment on this project,” said Bryan Singer. “The epic nature of the story combined with its interactive components makes it an ideal web series. In addition, the high cinematic quality of H + will make it viable for other forms of distribution."

True Blood
“Evil is Going On”, the season three finale of "True Blood", drew 5.38 million viewers (-1%) and a 3.0 A18-49 rating (-6%). The third season averaged 4.97 million viewers and a 2.9 A18-49 rating through 12 episodes.

Let’s hope that on the final season of Smallville we get to see Clark in “the suit” for a number of episodes and not just in the final show as they fade to black!
The re-imagined “Nikita” debuted with the exact same ratings as the debut for “La Femme Nikita” in 1997, yet the latter show was on USA and the viewing audience was smaller then.

They always said they would never put Welling into the super-suit, which is why I think we’ll only see him in it in the final shot of the final episode – perhaps with the Williams theme playing, a-la the “reveal” in the first movie way back when.

What’s up with this Smallville thing? The more I know about it, the more scary it is. When it started, it was about young Superman… and 10 years after, it is STILL about young Superman. The cast must be in their thirties now. Also, it seems that according to Smallville, Superman knew and met every single Superman’s villain BEFORE he even became Superman…

absolutely none of these shows keep my interest. too bad there must not be any movie news for the last two weeks.
Did anyone notice that at around 1:30 into the Smallville season 10 promo clip that thre was a distinctly Superman-ish looking figure behind something?
All I can say is that it is about time and I might just watch season 10 if it actually finishes with “Superman Arriving” so to speak… ;)
Actually scratch my last post to a degree, there is a suit but no body inside it. With the obligatory plastic wrapping in front to obscure our view… Hmmmm.
But there is a red cape, blue top, red and yellow shield. Perhaps even “bright red boots” as a Metropolis cop once said…!
Never been a big fan of Smallville, but this might just get me hooked.

@Harry: That’s a good question about whether Clark will put on the suit before the last episode…but I guess the only way to find out is…to watch the show! 8-)

19 – Ermm… in Smallville Continuity its not ‘quite’ Ten Years. But yeah I see what you mean. I take this all as an alternate reality, say, Lex was never meant to run over Clark on that day at that time and because of that all of time changed.

Smallville is looking great. this will be it’s best season and everything is realy shapping up. Can’t wait to jane Badler as Diana in V. She will be hot and fantastic. Chuck and Stargate Universe is looking good. Way to go johnathon Frakes. Directing some great shows in N.C.I.S L.a

Caprica: Put A Fork In It. Only because Haven is so horrible is SyFy willing to quickly burn off what’s left of Caprica. Well, at least a Cylon War Series (in other words, jump 10 or so years later, keep Esai Morales and a few others, bring in the young William Adama) is on the horizon.
Smallville: The little engine that could. Why, it seems like Smallville now segues perfectly into The Adventures of Lois & Clark, well, except for dead parents, and a few other issues.
To make Harry happy, let’s see them continue Smallville via a new sequel series The “New” Adventures of Lois & Clark. More Erica every week!! :)

Just FYI… “Chuck” premiered this Monday, not Wednesday. That show is stuck in what is by far the toughest timeslot on television. 5.79 million viewers is about as good as NBC can hope for until the “Dancing with the Stars” phenomenon starts to fade.

I really hate all those Syfy monster movies, like Sharktopus, Kraken, Hammerhead, etc. Why don’t they do a continuation of Monty Python’s “Killer Rabbit?” Why not a man-eating fruit-fly? Or a terrorizing butterfly? There’s some good things going on at Syfy, but these nitwit movies, wrestling, dear lord… I fear the days of good sci-fi on this station are coming to an end, although it’s always been questionable whether they ever had much good sci-fi to begin with.

CHUCK has twice the viewers of Warehouse 13–but the former’s gonna go down and the latter’s gonna stay! I love them BOTH, but it’s not fair. NBC has never promoted CHUCK, one of the most enjoyable and fresh shows on TV; in fact they shoot it in the foot every chance they get.
The ultimate insult? using CHUCK’s actors, during the premiere, to promote NBC’s NEXT new show!! The makers of the show have bent over backwards with excellent scripts, GREAT guest-stars, and breath-taking action, all with a thrilling soundtrack, and most people still have no idea what the show is even about.
It took ME over a year to find the show, then I was wondering, why didn’t I know about this SOONER?
If the ratings are big enough for the final season of Smallville, maybe they’ll replace it sequel called simply….Metropolis.

You need to check your comic book encyclopedias. Julie Schwartz helmed that ship when he allowed the creation of Earth 2 to hold the Golden Age heroes in the 1950s – long before those two Johnny-come-latelys.
Hell, I put the Star Trek: The Next Generation era in a different universe from TOS and TOS movies! For me, in the new Star Trek, I choose to assume Spock Prime is from future TOS continuity and not TNG!
Actually, it also allows me to assume that TNG movies were in a separate universe from TNG the series, given how much dumber the characters all became, post series. Can anyone seriously believe that the articulate, intelligent Jean-Luc Picard and highly efficient security chief Worf would allow a recently-tortured chief engineer to walk around the ship and not have scanned him and his VISOR for alterations and bugs? And they let a hugely expensive starship get destroyed because of something as tiny as the shield frequency? Surely the ship’s computer would be automated tom change the frequency the instant the shields are penetrated! >:(

Okay, I saw “Sharktopus” and wish I was drunk when I watched it. It would have been a lot funnier. Anyway, I’m going to pat myself on the back for predicting Sharktopus would not eat Eric Roberts, since it likes bikini clad women not ham. Does anyone have any non-network-spin information about Caprica’s prognosis? I was hooked from the pilot, and I was heartened for a time by the network’s declaration that they were going to support the show despite terrible ratings because they know people are passionate about it, like they were with BSG. Now, all I hear is doom and gloom.
Fringe: Assuming that Nimoy doesn’t pull a Brett Favre, they could have a more distant flashback than the one from last season and feature Zachary Quinto as a 30-something William Bell.
Game of Thrones: Still looking good. I’m either going to have to start subscribing to HBO next year or hope they’re very timely with their DVD/BD releases.
