Simon Pegg Releases “Nerd Do Well” Memoir + Pegg Talks Taking On Scotty, Being A Nerd, Losing Weight For MI4

Star Trek’s new Scotty Simon Pegg has just released a new memoir. We have a video below with Pegg talking about his "Nerd Do Well" book, plus more video and clips from Pegg, including talking about getting the role of Scotty, the trailer for his new movie Burke & Hare and more.

Pegg’s "Nerd Do Well"

Yesterday in London Simon Pegg launched his new memoir "Nerd Do Well" which tells his story from childhood to adult-hood and how his obsessions with science fiction and comedy have shaped his life. In this video he explains what you can expect in "Nerd Do Well"

Currently "Nerd Do Well" is only available in hard cover in the UK. You can pick it up at Amazon.co.uk for £9.49 (discounted from £18.99).

Pegg will be appearing at a number of events signing the book in the UK over the next week. A schedule is available at Peggster.net.

Pegg talks about being a nerd, taking on Scotty role & losing weight for MI4

In a new interview with the BBC Pegg talked about nerddom and how he was offered the role of Scotty via email from JJ Abrams. Listen to that below.

Pegg also talked to the BBC (via Monstersandcritics) about his new health kick:

I’m not drinking. The last time I had a drink was July. I am on a big health kick. Back in the day I’d drink Stella. But I am right in the middle of a regime that has made me very skinny for Mission: Impossible 4. When you get into it, it’s like what’s the point in having a pint when you are going to have to spend another 15 minutes on the treadmill to get rid of it? ‘I have got into green tea. It is like coffee but it’s not so cool. I have changed and I am proud of it.

Trailer for Pegg’s Burke & Hare + Behind The Scenes with Fable III

You will next be able to see Simon Pegg in the body-snatching comedy Burke & Hare, which comes out October 29th 2010 in the UK (US release date has not been set).

Pegg will also be heard in the new videogame Fable III. Here is a behind the scenes video with Pegg and the rest of the cast.

He’s at my local Walmart (Derby, England) on the 22nd October at 12.00pm signing his new book, can’t wait!

FIRST ???

He is one of the most naturally funny, likable guys I’ve seen in ages. If the movie industry had more like him, I’d probably go to the theater more than once every four years. :-) LOL

@1 Walmarts in England??

seems somehow sacreligious… They better stay out of Ireland, the American buggers. Tesco came in from the UK 15 years ago, and I’m still getting used to them.

Thanks for posting these wonderful interviews. I just ordered “Nerd Do Well” from Amazon and I can’t wait to read it. Simon Pegg is one of my favorite actors. I have almost all of his films and television shows in my DVD collection. He was fantastic as Scotty! I am looking forward to seeing him in “Burke and Hare” and “Mission Impossible IV”. Like Simon I am a nerd and proud of it.

@3

I think what 1. means is Its ASDA (a Walmart offshoot) and not a proper Walmart per se.

Glad he didn’t script and rehearse that launch video. It could have looked a bit awkward otherwise.

I think #1 is using walmart to keep our American Chums happy. After all we are there lapdogs

7 There are a couple of fully-fledged, fully-branded Walmarts dotted around the UK.

Our (english) walmarts don’t sell guns along side the fruit and veg though.

Is it just me or, with the beard, does Pegg’s dust jacket photo look an awful lot like Adam Savage from the Mythbusters TV series?

@3;

Watch out #3, Tesco has come to the U.S. as well! Bwa ha ha ha ha!!!!

#10 its been noticed before beerwriter. He really does, doesn’t he.

Tescos are going to rule the world

@3 – ASDA Walmart…

@13 – YES, TESCO WILL RULE THE WORLD !!!

2. Viking – October 15, 2010

Yes, he’s a great guy with a big heart. He invited me to the premiere of Star Trek, the after party and the after-after party hosted by Pine and Quinto. A very kind gesture

Cool Chris did u go? What was it like??? WOW!

Dang. I could never give up beer. Good for him

I have to admit; it took time for his Scotty to grow on me, but after more viewings than I can recall (or care to admit), Pegg’s Scotty has grown on me (and although I loved “Shaun of the Dead,” but I had a very hard time envisioning him in the role of Montgomery Scott). It took time, but it did happen.

Pegg’s wonderfully daffy BBC comedy series “Spaced” was sort of the UK precursor to “Big Bang Theory” in many ways, although BBT goes more for the belly laughs than Spaced did. I enjoy both.

Here’s hoping that Pegg’s Scotty will get to show more of the shadings and warmth that the late, great Jimmy Doohan brought to the role. I have no further doubts on Pegg’s ability to make it happen.
; )

7. Had a walmart in Korea 15 years ago, although it had a different name. macro? My roomate and I bought cases of ramen at a time. And was eventually (the local store at least) taken over by Costco. Oh, and Simon Pegg is swell. Anyone else find it odd that Kirk started calling him Scotty on the day they met (although, to be charitable, he may have said ‘call me Scotty’ in the 4 second turbolift ride when security escorted them to the bridge).

Another P.S., but i loved when Doohan was the kick-ass guy in command in a couple of tos episodes, would like to see a bit of that in the new Scotty, somewhere down the line. I kind of thought the later movies focused a little too much on the comic parts of the character (and, to varying degrees, all the characters) which were great, but I always thought he and Spock were best played as the smartest guys on a ship full of the smartest guys.

@15. Howdy, Chris. What was it like seeing someone else play a role that your Dad put such an amazing stamp on? Sorry, totally nosy.

@18

SPACED AIRED ON CHANNEL FOR IN THE UK AND WAS ALSO PRODUCED BY THEM!

IT AIRED ON BBC AMERICA WHO HAD PURCHASED THE RIGHTS TO AIR IT IN THE STATES!

I MEANT CHANNEL 4

Cool clips, thanks! Will def get the book, my sons are already talking Fable 3 so I get to check that out too!

I am proud to say I am a nerd/geek and have raised 4 more to carry it on- (now teenagers) They all love Trek, Star Wars, LOTR etc. and we have a great time because of it.

Anyone doing Trek this year for Halloween? We did last year and our costumes looked like we went to the set to get them. We made them ourselves. One of my son’s resembles Karl Urban and was Bones.

I have only seen one costume this year, for a little heftier “Spock”. LOL So I was a little disappointed to see so little Trek offerings this year.

21. My mistake. ; )

And yes, in the States (where I live) it did air on BBC-A and it’s on BBC Home video. No way for me to know, really.

two guys from xmen first class- very cool

@24

I hate the BBC, greedy bastards charge the British public £145.50 a year for a TV licence!

I like Simon Pegg.

Although he was NOT Scotty to me in the film, I still thought he was great fun in the film.

Check out the trailer for Simon Pegg’s upcoming movie “Paul.” And yes the trailer shows the alien. Hardly a surprise, since it’s your standard “grey” alien. But it looks cool to see it talk. I thought Greys were telepaths. Anyway, it looks great. Sigourney Weaver also stars.

I’m aware about this already, however there are some beneficial pieces which concluded the picture for me, thanks for your time!
