Chris Pine Ponders Life As Clooney (and Shatner) In New Details + Photos & Videos

Chris Pine’s role as Captain Kirk in the 2009 Star Trek movie has shot the actor into Stardom, landing him a number of other big roles and makes him the subject of a cover story in the new Details. We have excerpts, photos and video below, including Chris talking about how he is thinking of living life like George Clooney, and pondering if he will be hanging with William Shatner.

Pine wants to be Clooney – could end up with Shatner + JJ talks Kirk casting

Chris Pine is the subject of a feature cover story/interview in the new Details magazine. The article includes some self-reflection by the actor, including some interesting revelations in this excerpt

"I’m more cerebral than I want to be," he says. "Sometimes I think I need to get crazy. Go to Vegas. Do some drugs. Get some hookers. Gamble it all away. And it never happens. I usually just end up at home on my couch—reading….

It’s all just cognitive behavioral therapy for me. How do you change how you think to make your life work? I’m single and very happy about it. It’s a good time to be single. I have a lot of friends getting married right now, having babies. But I think I’ll be more like… the George Clooney."

Chris Pine reflects in new Details

The article includes a discussion of Pine’s rise to stardom over the last couple of years following the success of the Star Trek movie. The actor is on a trajectory that should ensure he is not typecast, getting equal billing with Denzel Washington in new action film Unstoppable, due in theaters in November and he will be the next Jack Ryan, but he jokes that it is too early to tell in this excerpt:

"Talk to me in 30 years," Pine jokes. "By then it could be me and Shatner in Reno, working the lobby of some third-tier casino in our spandex."

The article also contains some comments from Star Trek producer/director JJ Abrams on why Pine was cast as Kirk.

"Until six weeks before shooting, we didn’t even have our Kirk," says Star Trek’s director, J.J. Abrams. …on a tip a from his wife, [Abrams] rewatched Pine’s tape. "I thought, ‘Damn, this guy’s pretty good,’ " Abrams recalls. "Once I saw him in person, it was clear he had it: Confidence. Vulnerability. Athleticism. Fearlessness. And a willingness to look uncool—that makes him the coolest guy in the room."

New Unstoppable video + submit questions to Chris

Chris’ first big post-Star Trek role is starring alongside Denzel Washington in the Tony Scott runaway train action movie Unstoppable, which opens November 12th. Here is a new featurette about the ‘heroes’ of Unstoppable.

POLL: How long will Star Trek have Chris Pine?

In the past, Star Trek had actors who stayed with the franchise for decades. William Shatner appeared in three seasons and seven feature films as Kirk, but this new Star Trek cast are only sure to be around for two more movies. Do you think that Chris will do his three (contracted) Trek films and move on? Or will he dip back into Trek every few years?

I think Chris will do all that they produce. We don’t know how many that will be, however.

Pine will rock in the Trek sequel!

It feels as though Chris is trying too hard in those pics. I prefer the more natural chris, instead of typical-hollywood spoiled super-star, as we see in those pic’s.

Chris, like what you are doing in acting, but dude…you look silly in these photos…and what is “Details” magazine? Never heard of it?

He’ll do as many as they are willing to cast him in. Up until they recast for the Next Generation reboots that is.
Just as Leonard Nimoy accepted that he is Spock, these new actors will embrace their Trek roles.

This man is absurdly attractive.

Oh man…

I don’t envy Mr. Pine having to explain those photos to Mom and Pop over Thanksgiving dinner. The Devil’s in the Details—(rimshot!)

:D

#7. Oh My!

In 30 years Shatner will be 109. And yet I still I find Pine’s future scenario plausible.

I’m straight and I’m intrigued…

Wowzers.

SEXY & UberHot!!!!!! Love me some NUKirk!

“The Supreme Court” plan to do three movies and then they will move on, according to Bob Orci. I suspect the same will be true of the cast. They will want to branch out and expand their horizons, while Paramount would like to find a cheaper group of actors when Pine and co.’s contracts are up.

I do think Chris Pine is excellent as James T. Kirk. Great casting. I look forward to “Unstoppable”.

I “Pine” for more Chris in the sequel. Its great for us fans that he is going to be an “Unstoppable” force in Hollywood for years to come. I bet he is already “Jack”-ed for his role in the next Tom Clancy movie!

Slightly goofy photos aside, the interview is pretty interesting — he sounds like a real “actor’s actor” as opposed to a movie star…

Just please stay out of the leather pants in the future, Mr. Pine. Star Trek will happily provide you with all the weird clothes your little heart desires! ;)

Oh NO! What will happen when the “Supreme Court” moves on and a new group of actors also appears, Great Bird willing, after the third movie?

Will we have a replay of all the “these writers ain’t worth crap” and “this ain’t the real Kirk / Spock / McCoy” arguments again?

Is THAT what we will have to look forward to in six or seven years?

15.

Maybe the next two movies will be so good, and bring in such lucrative box-office, that Paramount will offer the “Supreme Court” and the current actors a BRINKS TRUCK FULL OF CASH to do a couple more…:>)

Oh, gawd, I can just picture it……..30 years from now Pine will be fat and balding, bulging out of his Starfleet uniform as he mutters, “again with the Klingons!”

16

Oh, gawd, I can just picture it……..30 years from now Pine will be fat and balding, bulging out of his Starfleet uniform as he mutters, “again with the Klingons!”

He’ll more likely be wearing a toupee and hamming it up:

“Again…..withthe……..damned………Klingons!”

Wouldn’t it be ironic if he ended up looking EXACTLY like Shatner does now?

Yikes!!

18

Well, one can do a LOT worse than end up looking like William Shatner!

Imagine looking like Keith Richards or Ozzy Osborne………yeeesh!

Make that TWO Brinks trucks’ worth of cash. Inflation, you know.

By that time, the dollar may be worth half an euro.

And, come to think of it, they might want to be paid in euros.

Or yuan.

The ‘mighty dollar ain’t what she used to be, ain’t what she used to be, ain’t what she used to be….

well if they decide to reboot star trek tng, they could always sign up Tom Hardy play Picard.

The first picture looked like Chris’s face cropped onto a female body, not a fan of the first or third pic, the second and last pic is way better.

20
Just pay them in Aussie dollars so you will only need 1 truck.

The things I would do to that man…

He’ll do three Star Trek movies including the 2009 movie which is plenty in this day and age – it’s also plenty Star Trek films in this day and age – after the 3rd film there should be a break and then a new TV series.

I wonder sometimes if this crew will do it backwards – do several movies over the course of twenty years, and then when their careers are not as ‘busy’ as they used to be they’ll all get together for a series.

HELLLLLLPPPPPP!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! ….. Sorry guys but I always overkill when it comes to CHRIS PINE !!!…. HAHAHAHAHA!

What about the photo is clear he is not doing the “Captain Kirk” in this photo shoot !….. I know that we are on TrekMovie.com and we talked mostly about Star Trek here …. but there is another life beyond that, and CP is an actor with other challenges to conquer.
I lOVED the photo shoot CP doing the “James Dean” is wonderful. … He has risked it and has my full support……. and I’m drooling in these pictures …. HAHAHAHAHA!
And do not blame Chris for doing other things for now…..After all the producers who were scheduled “Star TrekSequel” only to 2012.

You have to see things without prejudice…… after all this is how I see the “Trek Universe!

AND CP IS AWESOME!!! … GORGEOUS CAPTAIN FINE!!! ….GREAT CAPTAIN KIRK!!!

Would a Star Trek movie without Kirk work?
What if they did something like “Search for Kirk” for a movie number four?

Many years after movie three, the “Alpha Quadrant” has been invaded by some sinister power. The Federation is no more. Only a few battered ships remain fighting.
A young cadet and some survivors find the nearly destroyed Enterprise and set out to find Kirk and Spock, long lost, to help them save the universe… And from there on we have a new crew…

I used to “read” Details back-in-the-day when it was a pulp mag…
…have to say: CP is rockin’it pretty hard here!

Hope they make him less of a smug a-hole in the next one…

I would have vote for 2 movies, if it was a choice…

In the video of Details photoshoot CP ROCKS!……”Unstoppable” WOW…can’t wait….. I want CP in every Star Trek that are being filmed!…..anyway….CP IS AWESOME!!!

I didn’t vote. Now I know its my democratic right and indeed my electoral responsibility to vote but, and here’s the thing, i really have no idea how many Trek’s Pine will do.
I’m guessing it’ll be 3 and out- until he hits middle age and is no longer flavour of the week. Then he’ll do it till they don’t want him any more.
Such is life.

If they maintain a 3+ year gap in the films, as opposed the closer to 2+ of the TOS movies, Chris might be glad to do a few more… given that he’d have 2.5 years to do other movie projects between Treks.

Another advantage of TPTB giving us a movie TOS series rather than a new tv TOS series.

I think CP wanted to do something different, he took a risk….. but I suspect the results surprised him… and maybe he’s thinking “what have I done?”…..
….HAHAHAHAH. .. I think he’ll have to explain that to many people and this will be very funny! …HAHAHAHAH!!!

But don’t worry CP you will surely be on the list of sexiest guys next year !…. HAHAHAHAHA! The “Captain Kirk” sexiest of all time!

Why the heck are they dressing Pine up to look effeminate?

Stay calm don’t stress … he’s just playing a character ….. other pictures of the photoshoot are up quite normal……but gorgeous … but it is clear that the editors of Details magazine gave prominence to the pictures more polemics. … Not always happen that way? .. Otherwise no one would be commenting on it!!!

I don’t think he’s looking effeminate. …. He’s looking very SEXY …. Well it all depends on the eye of the beholder …. wow that’s deep! … HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Before I forget the “TrekMovie.com Staff” also chose the photo
more polemics to put the matter, isn’t it?…LOL!!!

The photos are like the opposite of the article. Hes sounds intellectual in the article but just a pretty boy in the photo shoot. A very very pretty boy.

# 39
Yes the interview and the scene of the photoshoot are completely different ..
I think the photographer wanted him to interpret this pretty boy, like James Dean. … looks like a fashion photoshoot ….. And pictures don’t seem to illustrate the interview. … Probably how the editors want!!!

I think they’ll do three, shoot 4/5 together down the line and pine, urban, and quinto will appear briefly in #6

Hi Dee! Another opportunity to drool over the gorgeous Pine man. I don’t think the photos make him look effeminate, otherwise I would not be constantly stopping myself from thinking about the things I would do to/for that man, if only I could get my hands on him!

This was a modelling assignment first and foremost, with an article attached, which did not necessarily have to have anything to do with the photo shoot. Actors do modelling as well and Chris makes a good fashion model as well. All power to him, I say.

Surely, someone can be very attractive and intellectual as well. I don’t see these things as being mutually exclusive.I think that is what I have found so interesting about Chris Pine, when I first saw him – that bright mind with good looks to match. For me, there is nothing more sexy. This is who the Kirk character is, which is why Chris Pine is such a good choice to play Kirk. Chris Pine appears to cook with a to-die-for handsome, “absurdly attractive” appearance and an intelligent, thoughtful mind.

I hope he does meet the right woman for him, because being male and single is generally not good for a male’s overall mental/emotional and physical health, especially as he gets older. The stats are not favourable. Fact. I really hope that Chris does not want to or indeed become a kind of George Clooney…

#42

Keachick Yes I agree, this story about George’s nonsense … But there are worse things is not ?…. LOL … CP is young and I don’t think he has matured very early, as CP says. …. speak this way in an interview proves it…. He was just kidding …. ….. and why be so serious with a private matter when it’s talking to a reporter? … At least I don’t really care that much for privacy of my favorite actors!. .. I think people talk too much about his personal affairs and they lose credibility in the professional side !…. My point of view!

#42

But of course I also found it very funny… that someone who doesn’t say the name…. wasn’t mentioned! HAHAHAHAH!!!

#14.

I agree with you on the leather pants. Very, very, VERY few men look good in black leather pants. They generally require the presence of a motorcycle. Which you should, technically, be riding while you wear them.

Otherwise, nice interview. He sounds like a smart guy. Except for the leather pants.

Do you think the leather pants are his?

I hope I never, ever see him again in leather pants.

Did I mention the leather pants?

#45

A stylist chose the costume of the photoshoot…. so none of the clothes belonged to Chris before, I think…… But he may have received a gift of some of the clothes later.

Chris Pine’s head cropped onto a female body? What does the average young American woman look like? Where I come from, they are a little rounded about the hips as females are meant to be and they also have a little cleavage. Chris does not have a female body. His body is gloriously straight, long and lean with no cleavage.

I just love those Versace leather pants on him. Oddly, I think he looks more comfortable than he does dressed in formal attire at a film premier. Perhaps it is because it is just him and the photographer, out in the country, working at their own pace, (except for the glimpse of a female leg in the video?) What a beautiful, gorgeous looking man!
