Anton Yelchin Has “No Idea” About Star Trek Sequel April 27, 2011

by Anthony Pascale , Filed under: ST09 Cast, Star Trek sequel (2013) , trackback

Anton Yelchin, Star Trek’s new Pavel Chekov, says that he doesn’t really know anything about the 2012 Star Trek sequel, but he thinks they he will be doing Trek “soon.” See below for more non-news from Yelchin.

Yelchin has ‘no idea’ about Star Trek sequel

At a junket promoting the The Beaver (due out May 6), Star Trek’s new Chekov Anton Yelchin answered a question on if he knew anything about the Star Trek sequel script or schedule. Yelchin didn’t seem to know much (vai Cinemablend):

No, I haven’t seen the script. I’m not sure. I think we’re doing it at some point soon, I don’t know when though. No idea…I haven’t because they’ll get to it when they get to it. I’d love to get together with those people again, I really love that whole cast. It would it be a lot of fun to do it, but it’s kind of one of those things.

Yelchin doesn’t know what’s next for "Star Trek"

It is not surprising that Yelchin does not have a copy of the script yet. TrekMovie has been reporting that even though there is a "soft prep" version of pre-production going on, the first draft of the sequel script has not been completed. Plus, as filming is now targeting September, it is likely that the main cast would not get scripts this early anyway. The first draft is more for Paramount and budgeting and will likely go through additional drafts before being handed out to the cast.

“At some point soon “… that sounds exciting, right? … or not yet? LOL

:-) :-)

2. Dee - lvs moon' surface - April 27, 2011

I was reading an interview with Jodie Foster about Elisyum … she said … “Those sci-fi movies are all really hush – hush. I do not even own a screenplay. They will not even give me a screenplay. ‘ve read it, But They will not give me one to keep in Physically my home ‘ cause they’re so worried about everybody.” …source collider.com

I think it will happen something like this with the script for Star Trek 2012 and the actors…

:-) :-)

3. Dee - lvs moon' surface - April 27, 2011

“Elysium” ….

4. Anthony Thompson - April 27, 2011

That tells ya that they haven’t even asked the actors to set aside time in their schedules for the shoot. And this for a major film due out in just over 13 months? Doesn’t fill me with confidence! No wonder that trekmovie hasn’t put a countdown clock on the site.

Oh, and BTW, still not even a first draft. Maybe Paramount would have been better off with Harlan!

5. Commodore Mike of the Terran Empire - April 27, 2011

Ok Bob Orci. Update on the Script. Is it done. Nearly done. 80%,90%, Please Update.

6. Red Dead Ryan - April 27, 2011

This movie is coming out in July 2013. I guarantee it. Because otherwise, Bob and co. will have to rush the script through just to meet a deadline which would result in a crappy movie anyway. Plus J.J Abrams has other things going on, as do the actors. They’re not even done the first draft yet.

7. Browncoat1984 - April 27, 2011

While its great to see interest in the sequel, I find it silly when I see people asking every Star Trek actor who had so much as five minutes in that movie if they knew anything about the sequel.

Until The script is 100% done, I can guarantee that ANY time an actor is asked about the next movie he will give the SAME answer. The people you want to talk to are the writers or JJ Abrams as they are currently in the know, the actors are not.

“See below for more non-news from Yelchin.”

Ha. Ha. Ha. That’s funny Anthony P.

Saw trailer for “The Beaver.” It looks very interesting then I was reminded that Mel Gibson is in it. Can I set aside my disgust over his remarks about Jews and African Americans? I just wish Mel would come out and break down. Apologize with a sea of tears. If I can buy that, maybe I will make an effort to see his film.

9. charles charles - April 27, 2011

Me and my cousin are always in awe of when the bridge is left to a 17 year old of a galaxy class ship.

10. Bucky - April 27, 2011

I restate my appeal to move the film to early November ‘12 so a summer date will not affect the final product.

11. Phil - April 27, 2011

Probably the first honest opinion we have heard from the main cast. Still think they have 8-12 weeks of wriggle room before the date slides, though.

12. Samuel - April 27, 2011

It’s either made or it isn’t – it’s just another movie, at the end of the day…

13. Bill Peters - April 27, 2011

NO they are still on Target to make the film come out in Summer 12 it is the way the Business Works, they can shoot and do post Production all at once, I bet they will start shooting not later then September of this year and the film doesn’t have to be fished tell July of next so they are fine, most movies that come out one summer to the next are shoot in less time.

They want this to be there Summer Tent Pole and they will make it so pardon the pun.

14. Bill Peters - April 27, 2011

They will shoot start shooting September and they can do Post-Production and Special effects while shooting based on the scrip so they are all good for the Release date to be made, they might even start doing FX shots after the scrip is done.

Most Moves have a turn around of 6-8 months for Pre, shooting and Post Production and are often done at once, Most Summer Tent poles are done this way, some movies don’t have a final print tell the day before Release.

15. Bill Peters - April 27, 2011

Bob Orci I have faith in you guys :) Make it good, Make it so :)

16. Bill Peters - April 27, 2011

Sorry for the Multiple Post Anthony My computer does this one in a while.

17. Buzz Cagney - April 27, 2011

‘its kind of one of those things’ What things would that be?

18. Vultan - April 27, 2011

#17

You know, Buzz, one of those things and stuff.
It’s like that guy—can’t remember his name—he would say stuff and things would happen. Actually, it’s more like that movie with the people in it and stuff, and it took place in that city. You know the one I’m talkin’ about. Yeah, it’s like that.

Hope this helps.

19. Keachick - April 27, 2011

For goodness sake, give these actors something to say like, “It’s on. I am not available from August so don’t call me then. Trek is happening now”. Perhaps this is why Chris Pine seems to have gone to ground, down a rabbit hole. He can’t bear all the questions that he can’t answer. Know the feeling, I can’t bear it either.

It is the Chinese Year of the Rabbit – that may also explain it. I am reduced to writing all this superstitious trivia – you know “one of those things and stuff”.

Star Trek sequel – the means of turning no-news into “news”, ie (Orwell) newspeak or ICK. This is just nuts.

20. Andrew - April 27, 2011

There was an article on Trekmovie in October saying the scriptwriting had started.

November saw an article saying expect the script to be turned in in early 2011.

A February 12 article said it would be done in late March. It’s almost May.

With all due respect to Mr. Orci et al, am getting a little concerned here.

21. The TOS Purist aka The Purolator - April 27, 2011

“See below for more non-news from Yelchin.”

That cracked me up.

22. Buzz Cagney - April 28, 2011

#18 Thanks for clearing it up for me, Vults! lol

Just for you, mate…..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=judw_hDHRAY&feature=related

Do you know, Jamie Cullum at all, Vultan?

23. Kat Jennings - April 28, 2011

The sequel needs a larger all-star cast with many recognisable actors making cameo appearances.

There need to be larger space battles with more starships.

I hope that James Kirk has several (human) love interests like James Bond and that they are played by Hollywood’s most beautiful young actresses.

I hope that Lady Gaga has a cameo in Star Trek 12 as a singer and her character could have dark connections to the Orion Syndicate (the mafia of the Star Trek universe) who should be the villains of the sequel. With her futuristic music and style, she would fit right in.
Midway through Star Trek 12, I’d like to see Kirk, Spock and McCoy go undercover to a concert of hers on a distant planet like with Diva Plavalaguna in The Fifth Element (1997). When she sings Bad Romance, Paparazzi, Poker Face or Just Dance, her show could be raided by Syndicate henchmen who have a thunderous phaser fight with Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

24. Sean Benn - April 28, 2011

I was really disappointed that they killed off George Kirk in the last one. Chris Hemsworth gave a tremendous performance and the scene at the beginning of the film was heartbreakingly sad. It is unfortunate that they won’t revisit the character and now Hemsworth’s career is going to explode when Thor is released, it is highly unlikely he will ever reprise the role. It would have been good to have even done a film centred on George Kirk and shown how he got together with Jennifer Morrison’s character, Winona Kirk. When it was announced that James Kirk’s parents would be included in the film, it seemed that there would be several flashbacks with his parents in them but this did not turn out to be the case.

There better not be any scenes cut from the sequel. All of the cut scenes should have been included in the last film. J.J. Abrams made a bad call removing the Rura Penthe scenes. He said that the test audiences were confused by those scenes in particular. I am at a loss as to what was so confusing about the inclusion of the Klingons in the film. It was absolutely shocking to leave such a huge plot hole regarding where the villains were for 25 years. It makes them look lazy and stupid on top of the fact that they were superficial. Nero and Ayel would have had more depth at least as well.

25. Paris Milton - April 28, 2011

I hope that the Jerry Goldsmith theme music from the Star Trek Insurrection end credits will be used at the end of the 2012 Star Trek sequel. It would be a bonus if they include Russell Watson’s ‘Where My Heart Will Take Me’ (the excellent album version).

I hope James Kirk will have better fighting skills in the sequel and be a hardcore badass like Liam Neeson in Taken. I hated watching him lose the fights against the Starfleet officers, Spock and Nero. In particular, the fight between Kirk and Nero was pointless and anticlimactic. A wasted opportunity for an amazing and action-packed fight which would have made Kirk’s triumph at the end by avenging his father all the more emotional and uplifting. The Picard/Shinzon fight at the climax of Star Trek: Nemesis was more satisfying and even the Riker/Reman Viceroy showdown.

Four amazingly gorgeous and talented actresses (Jennifer Morrison, Rachel Nichols, Winona Ryder and Diora Baird) were wasted in the last movie and should have had more screentime.

26. Shakira - April 28, 2011

Anton Yelchin is one of my predictions to play Jimmy Olsen in Man of Steel. It will probably be him or Thomas Dekker, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford, Adam Brody, Emile Hirsch or Michael Cera.

27. captain_neill - April 28, 2011

The only thing I would be worried about is them going into production before the script is finished.

The last movie was great fun but the script really needs to be a lot stornger and more focused this time. So I am all for them taking time on the script but at the same if the release date is locked then get it ready.

28. trekker 5 - April 28, 2011

are we really supposted 2 excied about this?! i mean,my God!! Mr.Orci if ur out there some where,(hopefully in space writeing Trek) would you please give us a word of good news? all my StarTrek needs are on your shoulders, your freind,Olivia.

29. Michael - April 28, 2011

This is really ironic, because I have also have “no idea” about the sequel.

30. I'm Dead Jim! - April 28, 2011

@29 You too?! I thought it was just me!

31. dennycranium - April 28, 2011

@Anthony Thompson

Harlan Ellison? TOS used him because of the crush of trying to get 26 eps produced.
As soon as anyone changed one of his ideas or lines in his script he would have went ballistic. (If he wrote Trek 12)
The blogosphere would erupt with his rants about Paramount and JJ and co.
I would love to see him contribute his ideas and or thoughts though.
He complained about Shatner being a diva in 1967. He would be the same pain in the ass during filming now.
Relax about the script people. Its in good hands.
I think we all are just shining too bright a light on the process.

32. Varda - April 28, 2011

25. THIS. We need a badass Kirk that actually wins some fights, once in a while. Although I understand why they didn’t make him like that in the first movie, they have to ‘upgrade’ that in the sequel. I don’t want a superman, I just don’t want to see him getting his ass kicked all the time.

Although, my main worry is about the actors’ schedule. They have to be careful, otherwise they will find themselves with half the cast already taken by other projects (I’m mainly thinking about Chris Pine and Zoe Saldana).

I have no doubt the sequel will be kick-ass, but the schedule is getting worisome. But oh well. Let’s have faith and everything will be alright !

33. captain_neill - April 28, 2011

Who agrees that the next villain should not be another madman out for revenge?

34. Bones - April 28, 2011

Bloody hell, it comes to something when the news is someone not knowing about the film.

35. Janice - April 28, 2011

Seems to me like the project keeps getting delayed. If this keeps up I would be concerned that the sequel won’t make summer 2012 at all.
I think ST is a “summer” kind of movie .

Anyway, I guess i won’t care much as long as Admiral Pike is in it!!

36. trekker 5 - April 28, 2011

#34,i agree!! Bloody hell!! We need some real news!!!

37. Anthony Thompson - April 28, 2011

7. Browncoat, you don’t know what you’re talking about. In this case, it most definitely IS relevant to ask actors. Because they need to be notified months in advance to clear their schedules for a major shoot. If Anton hasn’t heard a thing, what does that tell you regarding the prospects for an upcoming shoot?

38. Anthony Thompson - April 28, 2011

14. Bill Peters

“6 to 8 months”. Do you want a slapdash movie or a great one? After 3 years of waiting, I’ll want a great one!

39. captain_neill - April 28, 2011

I want a great movie as well.

34
Agreed. Seems every update is the same.

40. Victor Hugo - April 28, 2011

Green Lantern is kicking butt on the whole “non human looking aliens” department.

Star Trek should start using those. What´s the point of a reboot if we´re going to fall into “rubber forehead aliens ” all over again.

41. Dee - lvs moon' surface - April 28, 2011

For all who are desperate, remember what Mr. Bob Orci said… somewhere in the past … recent past… lol… the script is “never done” … until the movie opens… I think that’s what he said …+ or – … whatever… +LOL! …
100% done?? no way!

:-) :-)

42. Dee - lvs moon' surface - April 28, 2011

# 19 – Keachick … yes, CP seems to have entered in the rabbit hole, with the beard, to find Captain Kirk again … if he is not looking for another character to another job, before Star Trek sequel… I remember reading somewhere some time ago that CP had let his beard grow up … to find the character he did in the play Farragut North.

Probably we will have the most relevant news about the sequel, after director JJAbrams premiere his film Super 8.

:-) :-)

43. matthias of hildesheim - April 28, 2011

well, produce the film slowly! i have time. do not hurry! who needs star trek 12 before christmas 12? and if mankind is ending in 2012… who knows! maybe even the production is not necessary :P

44. trekker 5 - April 28, 2011

Lord,Lord,i’ve heard no news is good news, but really!! theres a high sight that i might pass out when i see the title on here that saids,’StarTrek 12 goes into pre-production’!!!!

45. Jorg Sacul - April 28, 2011

It will be made exactly when it should be made. We don’t want to throw the time line out of whack…right?

46. Dee - lvs moon' surface - April 28, 2011

“No idea…”

Outstanding.

Spoken like an honest consultant. Take note people.

And, Phil, if I may ask , what are you doing?!

What happened to your rumour-mongering?

I thought you believed the movie had already been shot ,and, was currently in

post production!

:)

48. Bill Peters - April 28, 2011

#38 you can make a Great Movie in 6-8 months if you have a great Script, it is all about the Scrip and how you choose to shoot, and the date is hard set Paramount wants this out next summer!

49. Bill Peters - April 28, 2011

This Next Trek Movie will be great no matter how much time they take to shoot it it is all about the scrip and what fans like about the Second Movie. Bob I have faith in you .

50. Bill Peters - April 28, 2011

#33 I like to see a New Villain or at least a new try at an old TV Villain as long as it isn’t Khan.

51. trekker 5 - April 28, 2011

i don’t like waiting,ya’ll know that,but who does? and i want this movie 2 be the best movie i’ve ever saw,so Bob,no matter what you’ve done,what you’ve yet 2 do,i’m behind you 100%! P.S. hey Aurore! Nice 2 hear from you 2day!

52. chrisfawkes.com - April 28, 2011

I loved the last film. If it had a fault it was that Spock rolled out the emotion card at every corner.
“Sorry Jim, mind meld if ineffectual at emotional transference.” was a little too soon and took away from the power of his confession that he had been emotionally compromised, which also may have been stronger had older Spock grabbed Kirk by the arm and pulled him aside to quietly drop that line given that his dignity had always been attached to not showing emotion.

it was all too easy and almost eagerly forthcoming, a little sloppy.

So my wish is that the next Trek will be like The Dark Knight but given that first script draft is not complete a couple of months before production is due to start makes me wonder if we can expect transformers 2 instead. It almost seems disrespectful to be dallying around on something that needs to up the ante.

Of course it could be that the final draft of the script was wrapped some months back and all is well. Kind of like pretending the death star was not fully operational when in fact it was,

53. Aurore - April 28, 2011

Good evening Olivia! Nice to hear from you too!

:))

54. Anthony Thompson - April 28, 2011

48. Hey Bill, you claimed that most summer tent-pole movies are done (pre, shooting and post) in just 6 to 8 months. Would you mind naming just one so I can verify your “fact”?

55. Let Them Eat Plomeek Soup - April 28, 2011

I bet it’s going to be released in November 2012 instead of June. Just guessing though.

Lady Gaga as an Orion…hm, I think I can see that.

56. Phil - April 28, 2011

47. Aurore – April 28, 2011

Still do. All part of an insideous plot to keep the fan base guessing. Yelchin dosen’t know anything because he’s not in the sequel.

How’s that?

57. trekker 5 - April 28, 2011

Aurore, may i ask u what ur real name is? if that is too personal,i certainly understand.

58. redhawk23 - April 28, 2011

lets see the avengers comes out in may of next year and started filming a few weeks ago.

Trek on the other hand I don’t see going into production by september.

its most definitely going to be pushed back. 2012 is super full anyways.

59. Aurore - April 28, 2011

Olivia,

Aurore is my real name.

60. Aurore - April 28, 2011

56.Phil.

“How’s that?”

To quote someone you know ; “noted”.

:))

61. Ryan Spooner - April 28, 2011

While I’d be really happy if I saw a post from BobOrci saying “it’s done!”… I really hope they prioritise quality over some arbitrary delivery schedule.

I’d much rather have a movie 2-3 months late with a great script, than one released on time that is mediocre.

62. trekker 5 - April 28, 2011

Aurore,good 2 know,and thanks 4 sharing! :)

63. John from Cincinnati - April 28, 2011

This is a non-story

64. trekker 5 - April 28, 2011

@60. Okay, this is going to drive me nuts.

69. Aurore - April 28, 2011

68.Phil.

Then, his plan is complete.

:))

70. Ahmed Abdo - April 28, 2011

Will they be able to release the movie by summer 2012 ?

Not bloody likely :(

It is almost May 2011 & the script is not done, no director yet & even some of actors have no idea about it !!!

I’m getting really concerned about the movie, someone from the production need to tell us what is going on.

71. Anthony Thompson - April 28, 2011

48, 54.

Bill, I’m still waiting…

72. Trekboi - April 28, 2011

feels like the berman years again- put it off- allow the least time- paint by numbers out in 6 months

73. Charla - April 28, 2011

*facepalm* not again…. kids settle down!! It’s almost like when my kids were little and saying repeatedly “Are we there YET?” but Bob and crew are the parents, and want to keep things real, and suprise the kids-

And Anthony, your like the bad uncle saying to the kids “Yeah your mommy will by you anything you want when we get there too!” lol I did this alot to my sisters kids when they were tots. hahaha- she would get so mad at me!!

Present day, a big, yet enviromentally friendly SUV (smart car too small lol) full of Kids/Fans: “ARE WE THERE YET?!” Parents/S.C.(sweetly): No, we still have 10,224 hrs until we get there, ok?” “You have to wait until we get to 5,000 hrs to ask again!” (more firm but still kind) The kids begin complaining amongst themselves, while the parents focus again on the road ahead of them.

Somewhere from space, (watching from the main screen on the bridge) Spock chimes in logically with, “or 613,440 min or 36,804,400 seconds to be exact.” Bones rolls his eyes, and Kirk sheepishly grins while the kids continue fussing, the SUV continuing onward into the distant horizon.

This is an example of why I am not a writer, but the comparison of kids doing this to their parents is so similar, I just had to do it! :D

74. Charla - April 28, 2011

lol *buy* in the 2nd para. where’s my proof reader when I need him???!!

75. ncc - April 28, 2011

I have no idea either. Why no one is interviewing me? :)

76. Christopher Roberts - April 29, 2011

Meanwhile in other news…

Star Trek Enterprise still remains cancelled (just as it was getting good).

The franchise’s future on television continues to look uncertain.

77. Christopher Roberts - April 29, 2011

This just in…

I’ve no idea either.

But what do I want to happen?

Sheesh. How long have you got?

78. captain_neill - April 29, 2011

72

A lot of stuff under the Berman watch still had good stories, they just didn’t have the budget that the last movie had.

79. Charla - April 30, 2011

# 76 I know- I don’t understand this!
