Happy Birthday, John Cho (and Belated BDay To Karl Urban) June 16, 2011

John Cho is celebrating his birthday today. Star Trek’s new Hikaru Sulu is turning 39 years old. So today TrekMovie wishes John a happy birthday, and we also wish a belated happy birthday to Cho’s Star Trek co-star Karl Urban turned 39 last week.
Baddass Sulu
John Cho brought a new dimension to his Hikaru Sulu (which he called "Baddass Sulu"), garnering him a big thumbs up from the original Sulu George Takei. Cho’s Sulu is a bit more serious, and he has taken the original Sulu’s taste for weapons to a whole new level. In this scene Kirk first learns just what kind of combat training Sulu has.
Cho will be seen next in A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas. The third film in this stoner-comedy series comes out November 4th. Cho also recently landed a role in the Total Recall remake, which is currently filming. He is also reported to be reprising his in American Reunion (the next American Pie film), but that has not yet been confirmed.
Belated Birthday To Karl Urban
Last week TrekMovie spaced remember to celebrate the birthday of Karl Urban on June 7th. The new Doctor McCoy also turned 39 and we wish our favorite Kiwi a belated happy birthday.
Karl was just seen in Priest which kicked off the summer movie season and stars in the comic adaptation Dredd, which premieres in the Holiday season of 2011. Karl is currently filming the thriller Loft with James Marsden and Wentworth Miller.

I attended a Harold & Kumar panel (with Cho and Kal Penn) at Comic Con a few years ago, and was very surprised to discover that Cho is by far and away the more outrageous and hilarious of the duo. The ‘boyfriend face’ was hysterical.
And I really enjoyed his turn as Hikaru Sulu. Hope to see more of his version of Sulu in the sequel.
That’s what we call good genes.
