Watch: Star Trek Shows Up On New Family Guy, Doctor Who & SNL

A new TV season is upon us and already Star Trek is popping up here and there. See below for video clips of the latest Trek incursions into Family Guy, Doctor Who, and Saturday Night Live.

Family Guy premiere starts with Trek

Seth MacFarlane is a huge Star Trek fan so it is no surprise that he started the 10th season of Family Guy with another Star Trek gag, with Star Trek II "for goats." Watch it.

Star Trek on Who

Last weekend’s Doctor Who injected a bit of Star Trek to the light-hearted episode ("Closing Time"), watch it.

Mr. Spock on SNL

Over the weekend Melissa McCarthy (Mike & Molly, Bridesmaids) guest hosted Saturday Night Live and she sported a Mr. Spock sweatshirt in a skit about an overly enthusiastic member of a food tasting focus group. Check it out.

Star Trek is, of course, everywhere!

SNL Rocks!!

#1 – Everywhere except our local cinema!

BTW, I don’t really like the SNL skit. It just promotes further stereotyping of Trek fans as obnoxious, overweight and socially inept.

Where was the goat edit?? The clip seemed like it always is.

Oh dear. Hulu strikes again. I could only watch the second one – Dr Who. I like Matt Smith. Actually I’ve liked all the new Dr Who’s – Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and now Matt Smith. Love the (positive) reference to Star Trek. As it should be!

@ 1 Yeah Star Trek is, of course, everywhere! ;)

I think its funny how the Doctor can understand babies.

Saw that. Loved how it ended. The SNL skit on people who anonymously post nasty things at others on the internet was funny too.

#4, oh come ON guy, I don’t think that’s true here at all! She doesn’t even mention Trek in the skit, and to be honest, she’s quite a funny gal. Her SNL appearance was awesome, and if she happens to be a Trek fan, I’d be delighted to have her aboard.

There are plenty of obnoxious, overweight, and socially inept Trek fans. Probably too many, but who cares?? It’s a truth I’m fine with (I’m of the skinnier variety myself :), and I’m still glad to be a part of the community.

I was laughing my a$$ of at this skit. Lighten up and stop being a victim. Really… it’s okay.

I feel so foolish. I keep asking for more Trek on TV and it’s everywhere. I guess I’m just selfish wanting more than the briefest, albeit funny Trek reference on a few comedies…

GIVE ME TV TREK!!!!!

cant stop laughing at the ranch exploding on her face! melissa is a pretty hilarious chick.

Since a few of us can’t see the hulu vid, what exactly was the Trek reference on Family Guy?

Can’t see Family Guy (though I was treated to several ads). SNL skit not funny.

SNL skit was great, forget that she’s wearing a Spock shirt, it was still funny.

8 – Yeah, that’s funny. : “Not the mommy”

Remember Loveboat The Next Generation on SNL making fun of ST: TNG

13 – Peter, Chris and Brian are watching “Star Trek II – The Wrath of Khan (edited for goats)”. Classic TWOK scene, Kirk yells KHAAAAAAANNNN, but they dub a goat bleat instead. They played the actual movie clip (not animated), and the timing was really spot-on, good for a brief laugh.

SNl sketch was hilarious!

Sadly this is the majority of Trekkies; attend any convention & you’ll see about 1000 of her.

19: Yes, I’ve been to just one convention and all the female Trek fans look like her but are no where near as funny.

Always hate it when I miss a new Family Guy, that was damn funny… will pick it up late next Sunday. I guess I could use the DVR for more than recording Star Trek re-runs

#10 – Hey, not a victim at all. I just don’t like how they had to put a Spock sweatshirt on her, thats all. Yes it was funny – but why couldn’t they have put a Jets jersey on her instead?

If she wasn’t over weight we wouldn’t be having this conversation. So if someone is over weight, no one wants to be associated with them in any way. How Un-Trek like.

Melissa McCarthy can wear any T-shirt she likes. The fact that she chose to wear a shirt with Spock on it is way cool.

@ 24

agreed! she’s great!

the snl skit was sad and really disgusting.

I thought the SNL clip was pretty funny. My favorite part of that skit was the touchdown pass to herself. CRACKED ME UP. The only part I didn’t like was the big ranch dressing explosion. It was kinda overkill.

Loved the SNL skit!! although nothing related to star trek besides the shirt.

There was also one I noticed in the Season 2 premiere of Orci and Kurtzman’s Hawaii Five-0 reboot. Masi Oka, the guy from Heroes who now plays a sort of consultant in Five-0, very deliberately displays the new model of Enterprise on his keychain.
