New Star Trek Sequel Behind Scenes Photos – Do Vulcans Sneeze? April 29, 2012

by Staff , Filed under: Star Trek Into Darkness , trackback

A few more photos from behind the scenes on a location shoot for the Star Trek sequel have shown up online, featuring Zachary Quinto in Spock make-up, featuring the actor having a moment and answer the question: What does it look like when a Vulcan sneezes. Quinto is also wearing what could be another uniform variant, check it out below.

Quinto sneezes in possible uniform variant from Star Trek sequel shoot

The latest images from the Star Trek sequel location shooting come from X-17 agency via The Daily Mail) and they feature Zachary Quinto in full Spock makeup, sneezing while behind the scenes.

Do Vulcans sneeze?

Quinto is wearing the standard undershirt for the Starfleet uniform, which is the same shirt Kirk wore for most of the 2009 Star Trek movie. It could be that he just hasn’t put on his blue science tunic over this shirt or he will appear without it at some point in the film. He is also pictured wearing grey trousers which are different than the standard dark grey/black uniform pants. It is possible this combo is a uniform variant for Spock in the 2013 sequel, or perhaps he was just half dressed.

Nice pants

See. I told you all. It is Khan!

2. Vultan - April 29, 2012

Well, it’s obvious now.
You were right. I was wrong. [sigh]

3. Red Dead Ryan - April 29, 2012

It looks like Quinto is wearing his own pants and shoes. His pants look like suit pants, and the shoes look like dress shoes. Could be wrong though.

4. Commodore Redshirt - April 29, 2012

Those are Men’s Warehouse pants! You’re gonna like the way this movie looks, I guarantee it!

5. Gracian - April 29, 2012

There are pics of Chris Pine using the same shirt/trousers combination. I think it’s a full set of uniforms.

Obviously, Khan.

6. Red Dead Ryan - April 29, 2012

Also, it could be that they are filming a camping scene in an RV park. Spock, Kirk, and McCoy are going to sit around the barbeque wearing a mix of Starfleet and civilian clothing singing “Row, Row, Row Your Boat…” while enjoying some beans ‘n’ bourbon.

After defeating Khan, of course. :-)

7. Wes - April 29, 2012

@6. And marsh-mellons too, I hope! ;)

# 1. MJ~

# 2. Vultan~

Yes, I see it now; there was a lot of spoilers in that sneeze. And those gray pants. Why yes… it could ONLY be Khan! ;-D

10. NoRez - April 29, 2012

Who is the woman with the tail? Is (a much older for some reason) M’ress in this one?

11. NoRez - April 29, 2012

(oh – KIDDING.)

12. Red Dead Ryan - April 29, 2012

That’s a dog beside her.

13. mike - April 29, 2012

can u say KHAN

14. William - April 29, 2012

Man, he really does look like a young Nimoy in that picture.

15. Sebastian S. - April 29, 2012

Instead of wearing a possible uniform variant, maybe they were just shooting Quinto from the waist up and didn’t need a full costume change? Just a guess.

But I can’t imagine Quinto voluntarily wearing those pants himself… ;-D

# 14

And yes, William. The resemblance is downright uncanny.

16. moauvian waoul - aka: seymour hiney - April 29, 2012

Damn, it is Khan. Uncanny.

17. Azrael - April 29, 2012

Like #5 said there are more pics from this same day and Chris Pine is wearing the same style pants as Quinto.

18. Sebastian S. - April 29, 2012

# 5

You’re right; I forgot that Pine was seen wearing these same trousers. My guess is it’s part of some new dress uniform….

19. Michael - April 29, 2012

20. TrekkerChick - April 29, 2012

She is. But, that is an actor portraying a member of a caninoid species that was involved in a long interplanetary war with the Caitians. It is also going to be a crewman on the bridge.

There will be considerable tension, for dramatic purposes, between the two.

21. Red Dead Ryan - April 29, 2012

So what you’re saying is, the next movie is going to the dogs?

22. Mikey1091 - April 29, 2012

Wait, Vulcans sneeze? I’d pay to hear the Vulcans give a logical explanation for that!

23. moauvian waoul - aka: seymour hiney - April 29, 2012

24. Mantastic - April 29, 2012

Could just be him doing an awful De Niro impression.

26. The Snob - April 29, 2012

#14 Yes, I can say Khan:

27. captain spock - April 29, 2012

some thing else the location shoot in san fransisco

28. Azrael - April 29, 2012

@25. Fake.

29. Dr. Cheis - April 29, 2012

Photographer probably missed 5 details that would have spoiled elements of the film, just so he could get Spock sneezing.

I approve.

30. Shilliam Watner - April 29, 2012

I’m glad we’ve turned the Khan thing into a joke. The first few posts made me laugh.

31. GB - April 29, 2012

@26 The Snob:

wh… what is that?!?! Is that real…? If it isn’t you or whomever did a great job on it…!

32. danielcraigsmywookiebitchnow - April 29, 2012

26 you might want to photoshop out spyglass logo from the poster, since the company doesnt exsist anymore after being folded into MGM

33. Sirmartman - April 30, 2012

Pon farr orgasm face !

34. Christopher Roberts - April 30, 2012

I know that face.

It’s the “I left the house this morning but I forget to switch the iron off” face.

35. La Reyne d'Epee - April 30, 2012

Who cares about plot spoilers.
Or Khan.
Or adherence to classic physics.
We need to know what the trousers look like.

36. X - April 30, 2012

Actually if you watch the commentary of the 2009 film with JJ they mention that they almost put the Botany Bay at the end of the film. Pretty sure it’s Khan.

37. Hawaiiowa - April 30, 2012

It’s not Khan, it’s Garth! Actually Capt. Garth revisioned in a Khan sense. Kirk and crew have to take on a more experienced Starfleet crew gone rogue.

38. CmdrR - April 30, 2012

It’s not the tribble fur; it’s that frakkin’ dander.

39. CmdrR - April 30, 2012

Why do you guys keep grabbing any clue and calling it Khan?

What, engineering is in a Bud plant, so now the Botany Bay is a Winnebago?

40. captain_neill - April 30, 2012

How do you work out it is Khan from these pics?

41. crazydaystrom - April 30, 2012

On another board someone called him ‘Zachary Squinto’ in reference to these pics. Made me chuckle. :-)

42. P Technobabble - April 30, 2012

Are those pants Gucci? Yves Saint-Laurent? standard Wal-Mart issue?

43. Trekker5 - April 30, 2012

You guys are really making me laugh today!! :D That goes double for #29,Dr.Cheis,#34,Christopher Roberts, and #38,CmdrR!! :) And #26,Snob,that’s an awesome poster!! :) The fact that Spock could be ‘half dressed’ in this movie excites me!! :)

44. Alf, in pog form - April 30, 2012

@26 The Snob

Clicked your link and was confronted with the last thing I expected. Most excellent!

45. Alf, in pog form - April 30, 2012

…and yes, the picture leaked from the set in the link below proves it’s going to be Khan….

46. Anthony Thompson - April 30, 2012

The one link between all these leaked photos is that they all have featured Quinto. I wonder if one of his companions or reps is doing this?

47. The Snob - April 30, 2012

#43 & 45: thanks.

Here’s an updated version with a few minor tweeks…

48. phil - April 30, 2012

cumberpatch needs to work out to be khan.

49. sunfell - April 30, 2012

I like the uniform variations- it makes more sense to have such things. The subdued delta shield on his shirt is especially interesting- real military units do that as well.

Really looking forward to the movie. And if I’m reading Zach’s tweets correctly, he’s about done.

50. Roobydoo - April 30, 2012

45 – LOL. Nice.

51. phil - April 30, 2012

goddamn i wish i was as thin as quinto, what isn’t he eating?!

52. Gray - April 30, 2012

51 – American food, perhaps?

53. Daoud - April 30, 2012

Wait, there’s a DOG in the picture.
They’re doing ENEMY WITHIN!! It’s probably a space dog, you know with little antenna and pink spray paint around its face!

54. Buzz Cagney - April 30, 2012

I fear the main corridor leading to the bridge is going to have been converted into a catwalk. Between all these costume changes I hope they find time to have a bit of a narrative going.
And by that I don’t mean, as Spock sashays his way to his station… ‘and here’s Commander Spock. Note the slim fit pants and tight fit shirt bearing just a subtle Starfeet logo for those occasions when you just wish to blend right in. Classic style for a classic Trek. Thats Starfleet Style by The House of JJ’ :-p

55. VZX - April 30, 2012

I just read that Cumby is, in fact, Khan. Some “confirmed” source states so on AICN:

I was really hoping he wouldn’t be. Dang, this sucks. I hate being right sometimes.

56. Frederick - April 30, 2012

I am going to be SO disappointed if the villain is indeed Khan. My enthusiasm for the film will diminish considerably. We have seen Khan already, at his best. Give us someone new!

57. Lords Of Kobol Book - April 30, 2012

#55 —

One report from one guy does not make it so.

There are too many things to make me doubt it. A) He’s wearing Starfleet formal wear in set pics, B) he’s an Englishman and Khan is an Indian.

OK, two things.

Still, I ain’t buying it. Yet.

58. Dennis - April 30, 2012

Lost Gerbil?

59. VZX - April 30, 2012

57. Khan wore a Starfleet Red Shirt in Space Seed. You are right about the race of Khan, that does throw it off.

Anyway, back to topic: I think Vulcan’s could sneeze. I can’t remember seeing a Vulcan sneeze on screen before, but I know Major Kira sneezed a lot when she was pregnant. Yeah, Bajorans and Vulcans are not related, but they are humanoid aliens. So, maybe all humanoid/ mammalian aliens sneeze.

60. VZX - April 30, 2012

56. Frederick: Me too. Even though I am a big Trek fan, I will not see this movie in theatres if it looks less than perfect. I hate spending money on a movie and being dissappointed. If the villain is Khan, then, to me, it is far less than perfect.

Bummer. Big time. I was looking forward to it.

61. The Last Vulcan - April 30, 2012

I’ve been saying it for weeks. The technicolor TOS uniforms are gone and won’t be in this movie. The jacket to this uni is the same color as the pants and has just the tiny splash of department color on the top shoulder. I’m 100% convinced of it! :)

62. Red Dead Ryan - April 30, 2012

Well, it looks like we’re getting closer to finding out that the villain is Khan. I can’t wait to see what the naysayers have to say once the writers do make the announcement. We’ve now had a couple of sources reporting that it is Khan. Hee hee!

Well, suit yourself. I am going to look forward to seeing the movie in the theatre. I won’t prejudge before seeing it.

M.J and I will be munching on popcorn while the rest of you will be eating crow! :-)

63. captain_neill - April 30, 2012

“PAAAAAAIIIIIIINNNNN” No one recall this from The Devil in the Dark. Surprised no one thought of this.

64. MC1 Doug - April 30, 2012

Not funny.

65. Picard's Fish - April 30, 2012

#61, sure they are.. and we’ve already seen them in these spoilery pics:

66. VZX - April 30, 2012

63. Captain Neill! Oh yeah! “No Kill I” Good catch

67. The Last Vulcan - April 30, 2012

@62 Nobody in their right mind would cast either Del Toro or Cumby in the role of Khan. I’m far more likely to believe that Weller will play an old Khan who is quickly dispatched and then the villain cloak is taken up by Cumby. Remember that it was confirmed that Weller would be playing “a corporate executive” and that’s a bit of a stretch if we interpret that conventionally. Weller could be the head of the eugenic supermen organization though!

@65 Again as I’ve stated previously. I am 100% convinced that those spoilery pics are a complete ruse put on by JJ to misdirect the fans off the uniforms AND the fact that Cumby will be wearing prosthetics. MARK MY WORDS! You’ll see when we get closer to release date that I’m right.

68. Troubled Tribble - April 30, 2012

Another villain of the week Trek – yawnnnn! They pussied out of doing anything science-fiction or original evidently. Trek IV was the last genuinely thought provoking movie akin to the best episodes of the 60s series. Trek should be epic in scope and force the audience to think and question – not this ‘Trek Wars’ for the 5-sec attention span xbox generation…

69. CoolPT - April 30, 2012

Is he really checking out the dude’s butt? Oyvey!

70. mateo - April 30, 2012

Zachary’s checking out that staffer’s butt! :)

71. Spock/Uhura Admirer ;-) - April 30, 2012

It could be that he just hasn’t put on his blue science tunic over this shirt or he will appear without it at some point in the film.

How about if he appears without a shirt. :-) :-) :-)

I don’t think he’s checking out that guys butt. I think it’s just the angle from which the picture was taken. Can’t say for sure, though, but that’s what I think.

72. Keachick - rose pinenut - April 30, 2012

Could that white dog be a seeing-eye dog for someone who is blind – the woman, perhaps? Seeing the harness made me think of that possibility.

73. Dennis - April 30, 2012

#64 Not funny? NOT FUNNY? I’ll do the funny walk then…

74. Keachick - rose pinenut - April 30, 2012

If there are pictures of Pine/Kirk wearing the same style/colour of clothes, why doesn’t Trekmovie publish those as well? All we ever see is Quinto/Spock. Could someone who has seen those Pine pictures please provide a link, since the trekmovie staff seem uninclined. After all, he does play THE captain, not just some first officer/science officer.

75. Red Dead Ryan - April 30, 2012

You are wrong.

76. Sebastian S. - April 30, 2012

# 67.

No, Last Vulcan was RIGHT.

After reading the spoilers, I’m convinced that they’re NOT in their right minds….

77. Buzz Cagney - April 30, 2012

#57 you might be surprised at just how many Englishmen are Indians these days! or is it the other way around?

78. Nano - April 30, 2012

Is he checking out the goods ???

79. Brandt Hardin - April 30, 2012

The long-enduring debate of which Enterprise Captain would win in every fan’s epic showdown has spilled over with guts and gore. See the battle of the Zombie Captains as Kirk and Picard go head to head on the Zombie Walk of Fame at

80. The Last Vulcan - April 30, 2012

@75 & 76: The proof in the pudding is always in the eating… and viewing! We’ll see! :)

81. Let Them Eat Plomeek Soup - April 30, 2012

Why would they get us all revved up with the “technicolor shirts” in the last movie and not have them here? False advertising, that is.

82. Spock/Uhura Admirer ;-) - May 1, 2012

They are going to have on their regular uniforms in the film, everybody.

83. Brett Campbell - May 2, 2012

For such huge budgets, these films have very drab costume design. The maroon cadet uniforms were dull and these are even worse.

84. Spock/Uhura Admirer ;-) - May 2, 2012

I think the maroon stuff is worse. Black and grey never go out of style. :-)

85. broken dude - May 13, 2012

wow. of all the wealth of vast trek lore and not to the mention to the possibly of going in new yet unexplored directions… and the best they can come up with the obvious. khan.. really????

86. broken dude - May 13, 2012

nothing we’ve seen is any proof or indication that its going to be khan. nor have they revealed the name of the villain. so i don’t know where these khan rumours are coming from. the image of cumberbatch or whatever his name is on set.. ok that could be anything i dont see a resemblance to khan.. they’ve said thats not the direction they want to pursue.. if it does turn to be khan i’m going to have to assume the studio forced their hand for financial reasons. cuz they don’t want this and fans who’ve already seen the whole khan story played out already don’t want it. there’s other things they can with this series. the notion of having khan kinda negates all the wonderfully original (yet keeping in tradition) things they did with the first one. think about it is represented by Gorilla Nation.
