As we have been reporting, the Star Trek sequel production is in Northern California, where cast and crew and coming close to wrapping things up. And over the weekend some of the cast members took time out to celebrate Cinco De Mayo at Hooters…and tweeted photos. Check them out below. [UPDATE: More photos]

Star Trek Sequel Stars Mission To Hooters

On Saturday Star Trek sequel actors Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, Benedict Cumberbatch and Chris Pine took some time out of their shooting schedule to celebrate Cinco De Mayo. And Quinto revealed their choice of location, tweeting…

@zacharyquinto: am at a hooters in northern california watching a boxing game. i have never felt more at home.

Quinto and Pegg also tweeted photos from the evening…

Benedict Cumberbatch gets into the spirit

UPDATE: And a lucky fan gets a picture with Cumberbatch, Pine and Quinto

After dinner the boys all packed into their shuttle and drove to San Francisco. Zachary Quinto tweeted the following image saying:

@zacharyquinto: grandma @simonpegg drives us to SF while grandpa pine sits shotgun curmudgeonly.

And on Sunday morning Pegg sent out this image of "the morning after."

On Sunday Pegg also tweeted this picture of himself and Cumberbatch, taken last week from the Star Trek set (extreme closeup to avoid spoilers).

And just for the LOLs, Simon Pegg also tweeted this Photoshopped image of Cumberbatch from Saturday night, completing the American effect.

Benny C – True Kick Ass American

UPDATE: Trek gang on the San Francisco streets. After this article and others about the Trek boys trip to Hooters went viral, Simon sent out the following tweet:

@SimonPegg: I think the highlight of the SP/CP/ZQ/BC late night San Fran road trip, was cruising up Broadway at 3am to the Beasties’ Make Some Noise.

Which he followed up by forwarding this awesome animated gif by @blackmamba1

1. Matt - May 7, 2012

Hey we do beer and boxing in the UK too! (I’ve never seen a hooters though, so if you guys wanna send a few of those over we’ll kindly oblige.

2. TrekLit Reviews - May 7, 2012

Great pictures, thanks for that!

3. Daniel Shock - May 7, 2012

LOL at that last one! Thank you, Mr. Pegg!

4. VZX - May 7, 2012

Yeah, I saw this on Twitter. I thought they were out to just watch the Mayweather fight.

Still, it’s neat how they hung out together.

5. SciFiMetalGirl - May 7, 2012

Anyone that can use the word “curmudgeonly” in a sentence wins my heart!

6. Chingatchkook - May 7, 2012

Hooters…now that is a voyage worthy of a 5 year mission.

7. govna - May 7, 2012

“boxing game”

looks like pitchers of Blue Moon.

8. Robert H. - May 7, 2012

So they are boldly going where…. everyone has gone before.

9. Blake Powers - May 7, 2012

Just the fact these guys are hanging out is food for my Star Trek soul. I personally think that the TNG cast liking each other so much is what made their show so amazing.. Likewise I feel this way about this cast..

10. sunfell - May 7, 2012

Some erstwhile filker is going to have to rework the lyrics of “Banned From Argo” into “Banned from Hooters” with the new cast.

11. Nick Cook - May 7, 2012

Nice to see they all get on. The cast chemistry is certainly a high point of the JJverse.

12. Daoud - May 7, 2012

Clearly in the Alt Universe…. Commander Scott rather than Marla McGivers goes off with Khan to conquer Ceti Alpha Whatchamanumber! What a cute supercouple! :)

13. Shatner_Fan_Prime - May 7, 2012

This is cute. :-) Just caught Sherlock for the first time last night, and I’ll be a regular viewer from now on. Great show!

14. Bugs nixon - May 7, 2012

Oh… Hooters would work so well in the UK.

15. Adama - May 7, 2012

Why the need of disguising Cumberbacht as a “True Kick Ass American” when he is celebrating a Mexican holiday?

16. Phil - May 7, 2012

Oh the politically correct among us must be appalled that the guys couldn’t find some more culturally enlightened event to attend….

17. Trekker5 - May 7, 2012

LOL! :) Looks like they had a great time! Awesome pics! :)

18. Jenna - May 7, 2012

17. That America Cumby photoshop was created earlier in the day by a few women on tumblr who were joking around about the British tumblr fans wanting him home and the Americans wanting him to stay here. A few people apparently managed to actually get Pegg to look at it in a tweet so he tweeted it himself.

Not that it matters, but the close up of Pegg/Cumby was actually taken on Saturday, after Cumby had tweeted from Pegg’s account on Friday but they said they couldn’t send a picture then because they were in costume. Still there’s something odd going on in the back of Cumby’s head (hood? extensions?) in that one and he did mention having weird plastic hair extensions in an interview last week.

19. TrekkerChick - May 7, 2012

@15 And not a particularly ‘widely elebrated in Mexico’ holiday, at that.

20. Jenna - May 7, 2012

Meant to direct that last post at 15. not 17.!

21. Dr. Cheis - May 7, 2012

I like the beanie hat to hide the Spock bowl-cut.

22. TrekkerChick - May 7, 2012

pimf. “celebrated”

23. VZX - May 7, 2012

Hooters is always a great starting point for a guys-night-out.

24. rm10019 - May 7, 2012

lol omg these are brilliant. and I think we have found a new subtitle for the movie! Mission To Hooters!

25. TrekMadeMeWonder - May 7, 2012

Gee. From the Brewery to Hooters. Ate least Simon is truly upholding on of Mr. Scott’s better know personality characteristics.

26. KingDom820 - May 7, 2012

That’s Awesome!

27. sean - May 7, 2012

You’ll find very few Mexicans in Mexico celebrating Cinco De Mayo. It’s almost entirely limited to the United States.

28. THX-1138 - May 7, 2012

Boxing game.

A real fight aficionado, there.

I hope they had fun. That picture at breakfast looks like an order of hangover with a side of queasy.

29. Tony - May 7, 2012

We’ll take any reason to party, celebrated holiday or not.

It’s great that they go out together though!

30. Greenberg - May 7, 2012

Hooters. Are you serious?

31. THX-1138 - May 7, 2012

Oh and….

#27 Sean

Here is the true meaning of the holiday:

Most people don’t know that back in 1912, Kraft mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York.

This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.

The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise and eagerly awaited its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.

The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course as… Sinko de Mayo.
True Story.

32. Harry Ballz - May 7, 2012

I’m sure they go to Hooters for the food, just like I read Playboy for the articles!

33. Max - May 7, 2012

Khan Noonien Soran

34. Rene Quebec - May 7, 2012

Mr. Quinto…should that be boxing “match”?

35. Adama - May 7, 2012

#27. sean

Didn’t know that… lol

36. sean - May 7, 2012

Quinto is one of the few people telling the truth when he says he goes to Hooters for the food.

37. AJ - May 7, 2012

THX, you deserve a multi-stroke dull-bladed Game of Thrones-style beheading for that one.

38. T'Cal - May 7, 2012

Fun times! Perhaps such camaraderie will bleed over into the film.

Star Trek: The Rise of Khan!

39. Legend of Link - May 7, 2012

Looked like a blast.

40. VZX - May 7, 2012

36. Ironic, since the food at Hooters isn’t that great.

41. Tony - May 7, 2012

40. The joke is that ZQ is gay. So obviously he ain’t going for the “Hooters”.

42. TJ Proctor - May 7, 2012

Also caught Sherlock for the first time last night, and I have to say, it will be hard not to think “Sherlock vs. Kirk…HMMMMM” when I’m watching the movie.

43. Christopher Roberts - May 7, 2012

Manboobs, finally getting the support they need! :))

If you’re detecting some jealously here… you’d be right! [laughs]

44. Dave - May 7, 2012

It was a matter of time when the “gay” issue would come up. Gee guys give it a rest.

45. Phil - May 7, 2012

@41. Actually the wings are pretty good. The wife and I hit the one near home on occasion.

46. Brevard - May 7, 2012

Glad to know that drinking and driving and celebrities still go together.

47. rm10019 - May 7, 2012

Montalban was Mexican, this holiday is celebrated by Mexicans… this holiday ALSO celebrated by BC ergo, BC MUST BE KHAN.

Sorry had to beat RDL (lunatic) to the punch :)

48. Tony - May 7, 2012

44. No issue, just saying. :)

45. I hate their wings, too vinegar-y. I like Wing Stop wings, with fries and cheese and dinner rolls with ranch dressing…. and this is why I work out daily. XD

49. LizardGirl - May 7, 2012

Just saw season 2 premiere of Sherlock last night. It was delicious. Love Benedict, he’s awesome…and very….very….very easy on the eyes
……….sorry was I saying something?

50. CmdrR - May 7, 2012

So, does Cumby hang truck nuts off his Bentley?

51. Michael Hall - May 7, 2012

@31 THX-1138

Go to your room.

52. LizardGirl - May 7, 2012

Also, Simon is so hilarious. Is he trying to mimic Zach’s face? He actually looks like him while doing that.

53. somethoughts - May 7, 2012

lol chug chug chug

54. Xai - May 7, 2012

Looks like scenes from Hangover 3:The Search for Khan’s Liver.

55. Dee - lvs moon' surface - May 7, 2012

Yeah!… Trek guys Saturday Night FRENZY… SP/CP/ZQ/BC… Simon ROCKS…. ;-) :-)

56. Adolescent Nightmare - May 7, 2012

Am I still the only one that noticed Scotty’s hair will be red for this movie?

57. Dee - lvs moon' surface - May 7, 2012

A lucky girl met BC/ZQ/CP…

….. look the pic here:

………………….WOW…. ;-) :-)

58. VZX - May 7, 2012

40. Yeah, I know, hence the irony.

45. Cool, well the one we go to at State College has dry wings (too dry), but the burgers are OK. A good place to “pre-game” for the night, though.

59. tman - May 7, 2012

Wow. Other site picks up that they were shooting at Lawrense Livermore Labs and for you the story is that they visit to Hooters afterwards. OK… I guess I can see that.

60. moauvian waoul - aka: seymour hiney - May 7, 2012

31. Now that was funny!

61. Keachick - rose pinenut - May 7, 2012

Great pictures, especially the one with Chris Pine. I had wondered where Chris Pine was until Dee came to the rescue. They appeared to be drinking orange juice in one of the pictures. Is Hooters a licensed or BYO establishment? We don’t have Hooters here in NZ.

We have a cultural thing and it is about assigning a person in a group to NOT drink any alcohol and that person becomes the designated driver for the *evening*. People take it in turns when they go out together. It overcomes the drink/driver problems and makes for a safer, more fun time.

62. Keachick - rose pinenut - May 7, 2012

#59 – See other thread on this site!

63. Keachick - rose pinenut - May 7, 2012

#36 #44 – I assume that Hooters not only hires waitresses but waiters also. It really depends on what the waiters are like. I mean – a good food establishment should be trying to satisfy all customer groups…:)

I don’t see any comments as being slights against ZQ’s sexual orientation, more in the nature of acknowledgment.

64. Daoud - May 7, 2012

OMG… Zach has his ear tips on!! The hat… to hide his terrible incident with a Chinese mechanical rice picker??
Oh, and bad assumption on ZQ up there, posters. He finds women attractive, too. He just doesn’t date them now. The oft-made assumption that gay men in no way find women attractive is absurd.
Good to see them all together. I wonder if some day in 2052, they’ll all be around the tables at a Star Trek convention recounting what it was like 40 years ago….

65. porthoses bitch - May 7, 2012

Note bc watch looks to me to be at 1230pm hmmmmm… maybe its set to london time.

The 2nd photo should be captioned “note zachary quinto and Simon pPegg in foreground”

I love seeing this cameraderie on the set…..this is gonna be good….

66. AJ - May 7, 2012

‘Hooters’ caters every ship in Starfleet in the 23rd Century.

“It is green.” Just deal with it.

67. Judith - May 7, 2012

Wow going to Hooter that’s progressive! I would of thought Trekkies would be angry at the fact that these guys went to a place that is demeaning to women.

68. Chingatchkook - May 7, 2012

@67 – Oh good grief.

69. sean - May 7, 2012

Folks, the joke is the one Quinto himself made – Hooters is not exactly known as a gay hangout. No one is judging or making any assumptions. Everyone loves Z-Quint, regardless of orientation.

70. Dee - lvs moon' surface - May 7, 2012

#61. Keachick … They were see Avengers on Sunday… ;-) :-)

71. Shilliam Watner - May 7, 2012

The only time I ever went to a Hooters, the music made it too loud to talk, and the sandwich was terrible. I couldn’t eat it and they did nothing to compensate me for a grisly impossible-to-chew dinner. The young women were all very attractive and friendly, but that wasn’t enough to ever make me go back there and try the food again.

I hope these guys had a better experience.

72. xai - May 7, 2012

#71…. they serve food? Wow….

73. Charla - May 7, 2012

LOL THX-1138 and AJ!

74. The Bear - May 7, 2012

Thanks, but you didn’t have to add the “note Hooters Girl in background”. I noticed her before I saw Quinto and Pegg. ;)

75. Shilliam Watner - May 7, 2012

72. xai – No, it wasn’t food.

76. porthoses bitch - May 7, 2012

Gotta be careful….that greasy food af hooters can make you kahn-stipated

77. MC1 Doug - May 7, 2012

At Hooters??? ewww!

You know the economy is bad when our local Hooters closed its doors, and this is a college town (South Bend, IN).

78. Sebastian S. - May 7, 2012

Great pics! But boxing ‘game’? Ouch….

The Hooters Landing Party: Boldy Going Where Many Men Have Drooled Before….

79. Timncc1701 - May 7, 2012

I miss the old Trek. Shatner would have been at the bar with the hooter girl.

80. NCM - May 7, 2012

@61: “We don’t have Hooters here in NZ.”

Oh, I think you do; you just don’t know it!

Keed! Reading that just made me lol.

81. NCM - May 7, 2012

“Boxing ‘game,'” given context with reference to Hooters and never feeling more at home, might have been intentional–and just too subtle.

82. Anthony Thompson - May 7, 2012

45. Phil

Are you the same Phil who was recently banned?

83. Anthony Thompson - May 7, 2012

…”close to wrapping things up”. Where is our online Q&A with the cast and writers / director?

84. I'm Dead Jim! - May 8, 2012

@81 I was thinking the same thing. Funny!

I also imagine myself walking into the Hooters and seeing those guys at a table. Probably would be the only time I’d not notice the waitresses!

85. Esteban - May 8, 2012

“Note the Hooters girl…”
Seriously??? Like we wouldn’t notice the hot chick???

86. CAPT KRUNCH - May 8, 2012

Just ain’t seein’ KHAN…….
And the ZQ quote is awesome!!

87. Jenna - May 8, 2012

83. Simon just tweeted “Last day of school!” so….

88. AnonymousWasAWoman - May 8, 2012

It’s kind of hilarious and fantastic that actors really are actors everywhere, no matter how famous. My hopelessly obscure Shakespeare company does exactly this whenever we’re on tour. If there’s no better place in town to drink than Hooters, then by God, Hooters it shall be.

I love this. This makes these people real to me.

89. Jonboc - May 8, 2012

Mmm…Hooters’ wings, a side of fried pickles and a pitcher of beer. Wish I was with them!

90. Red Dead Ryan - May 8, 2012

No, it was “phil”, not “Phil” who got banned.

91. rm10019 - May 8, 2012

87 – That’s sad, but good for them! guess last day of principal photography.

92. Ralph Pinheiro - May 8, 2012

Where are Karl Urban and John Cho? I have not seen photos of them with other actors in northern california. Were they in Livermore?

93. Whalien - May 8, 2012

Slow news day?

94. Punkspocker - May 8, 2012

This is great to see. bonding. I would kill to be in that room. Losing respect for Cumby though…bud light? really?

95. saavik001 - May 8, 2012

94 – It looks more like Hefewizen than bud light. Are those lemons on the sides of the pitcher and in the other glass?

96. tashyar2012 - May 8, 2012

yes they’ve been filming this week at Lawrence Livermore National Lab- and have been visiting the Pleasanton restaurants including Hooters. I think they were supposed to wrap today.

97. Keachick - rose pinenut - May 8, 2012

#92 – I was wondering that myself. Where are Karl Urban and John Cho? It feels incomplete somehow…

I hope Dee does not mind me posting this – it’s kind of sweet…

98. T'Cal - May 8, 2012

I too saw S2E1 of Sherlock. Khan is in very capable hands.

99. tashyar2012 - May 8, 2012

98 – You are so so right about that.

100. Joe Louis - May 8, 2012

Boxing “game”?

If there’s ever a remake of Frasier, we know who can play Niles.

101. Killamarshtrek - May 8, 2012

Simon Pegg has tweeted a picture of the command stripes on his Red Starfleet Uniform for some reason – check it out!

102. Startrekfangirl - May 8, 2012

SP tweeted earlier today that this is the “last day of school”–so maybe he feels free to slip out a little picture of his uniform…principle photography must finally be over!

103. Keachick - rose pinenut - May 8, 2012

Where can I get Bob Orci’s attention? Perhaps he might come here but he hasn’t so far. Anyway, this is me doing the squeaky door scenario –

When will people outside the USA and Argentina get to see People Like Us? A UK site is also asking, which will no doubt be followed by others. I mean – you guys shows us a great trailer, then follow it up by a featurette and yet still no release date for the rest of the planet. Bob, Alex – what gives here? Expect to hear more chomping at the bit…:)

You guys, just say the word!

104. MJ - May 8, 2012

“I assume that Hooters not only hires waitresses but waiters also.”

Yea, like that is ever going to happen! LOL

105. Dee - lvs moon' surface - May 8, 2012

#97. Keachick… Of course I do not mind that … is so nice to see the lovely favorite … Pine/Kirk …

…………… The last day of shooting … waiting for Trek …. 2013

;-) :-)

106. Dee - lvs moon' surface - May 8, 2012

“zq. picture wrap. holy shit.”

107. Jack - May 8, 2012

I once left my knitting at Hooters. True story.

I gotta say, these photos fill me with faith in this sequel — they seem to be having drunken, fried-pickle-eating fun together. Granted, I’ve had drunken, fried-pickle-eating fun at Hooters with guys I worked with on horrible, horrible, soul-crushing jobs (the boobies gave a little variety to our four-hour gripe sessions). But, still…

Whoever said Hooters must hire waiters too has clearly never been to a Hooters. Although, Zach Galifianakis could probably pull off wearing those shorts.

108. Jack - May 8, 2012

PS. Er, having a designated driver isn’t just a New Zealand thing.

109. DS9 IN PRIME TIME - May 8, 2012

We all know Zach went to Hooters for the food :)

110. Sean the Gaffer on the Star Trek set. - May 8, 2012

Its getting close to the end of the shoot. Now you know why we don’t want it to end.

111. Daoud - May 8, 2012

@110 Perfect opportunity lost to have filmed Star Trek 3 back to back with Star Trek 2.
Oh well!

112. Jack - May 8, 2012

109. Hey, I’m gay and I still go for the view. I don’t get to see boobies very often.

113. Al - May 9, 2012

The food in Hooters is terrible though. Truly awful food

114. Sebi - May 9, 2012

Somehow the tweet from Quinto reminds me of Commander Shepard of the Mass Effect series…
“I am Commander Shepard and this is my favourite store on the Citadel”..

115. Daoud - May 9, 2012

New thought: “Mission to Hooters” should be the title of a Gold Key-like adaptation of Star Trek 2009/2013!! Kinda like the original TOS novel, “Mission to Horatius”, but …. with Hooters.
God, Idiocracy is coming true. –Not Sure.
@109 :) And they’re probably more willing to show’em or flash’em to you, because they think you’re ‘safe’. ;)

116. Jack - May 9, 2012

115. Yep. That only happens in the movies, unfortunately. I’ve been trying for years. ;)

117. Red Dead Ryan - May 9, 2012

I suspect that a lot of the girls who work at Hooter’s are underage. If that is so, then it doesn’t look good on the actors who went there.

118. rm10019 - May 9, 2012

They are waitresses not strippers… sheesh!

119. Keachick - rose pinenut - May 9, 2012

Jack – I was just speaking for NZ as I was not sure what happened in the US. However, having a designated driver makes perfect sense and so is more than likely something that would occur in other countries, like the US, as well.

My scant knowledge of Hooters is that it is a chain of fast-food eat-in diners, not a group of strip clubs. I am assuming, from the comments, that Hooters is licensed to sell alcohol. Are there age restrictions on who can eat at Hooters, as in no children allowed?

I have read that many gay men can be fascinated by and adore breasts in the same way as many hetero-males can. Perhaps it has to do with not having. I personally don’t have the same fascination, but then again I’m female and my breasts have done all that nature intended them to do.

120. Keachick - rose pinenut - May 9, 2012

I have just watched the latest little video posted here of four of the Star Trek cast. I believe that this was taken BEFORE they started actual filming.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s hair is auburn (his natural colour), not black. Chris Pine’s hair is dark brown, not blonde.

Is this photoshopped? A bit sad if it is…:(

121. Joe Louis - May 9, 2012

Minimum age to work at Hooters is 18.
21 in some places.

122. Xplodin_Nacelle - May 9, 2012

“Captain’s Log, Stardate 2012.”…… “We have arived at our intended destination code named, Hoooters”…….. “Still no sign of any owls”………

123. Jack - May 9, 2012

119. I just never get to see them.

Uh, Hooters is a really weird place. It’s marketed as a family restaurant (and I’ve been there when there were kids’ birthday parties — teh waitress made this 9 year old boy stand on a chair and she taped big orange balloons to his chest and then she popped them). It’s supposed to be trailer-trashy, so, yeah, it’s not a strip club. But Crystal, our waitress, was explaining how everything is engineered to show off the waitress’s assets — to place their orders with the kitchen, they have to climb on to this little platform, about a foot off the ground, and then awkwardly bend over the counter and reach up to pin the order on a clothesline thing that sends it to the kitchen. It’s all about getting them to bend over at customers’ eye level. But, yeah, there were tables of just women there one Friday night — I asked the waitress about this (it was like I was on an anthropology field study), because I didn’t get why women would want to be there — and she said, well, it’s a great place to meet guys, because there are so many of them. And then there are also the hipsters who drink Pabst Blue Ribbon ironically and are there to mock it. And the food isn’t bad — and there are plenty of TVs to watch whatever games are on.

The waitresses seem in on it, and they seem to be enjoying it, so. I don’t know.

124. Jack - May 9, 2012

120. That animated gif thing was made using existing headshots. Just a gag. That vehicle, the bodies and the frappucinos are from something else — Zoolander, maybe?

125. Keachick - rose pinenut - May 9, 2012

#123 – LOL

Some women like to be flirted with, admired by men. They like the idea that simply by their physical look and presence, they could put a spring in a man’s step. Men should respond by being pleasant and courteous and not give in to making lewd jokes in their presence or within earshot or making a grab for them. Anyway, that’s my impression…

126. sgg - May 12, 2012

As a person who works for Hooters, I’d like to clarify a few things: No, Hooters does not have waiters. You have to be whatever age the state requires to serve alcohol. As far as I know, all Hooters at least serve beer and wine.

People have so many misconceptions about the restaurant, the people who go there, and the people who work there. It’s a relaxed bar/restaurant where you can go to drink some beer, chow on some greasy food, relax and, if that’s your thing, look at some pretty girls. It’s only as demeaning as you let it be, and really what a waitress gets there generally isn’t any worse than what she’d get walking down the street on any given day. It’s an easy job that lets you make pretty good money without too much time or effort.

Now, on to the jealousy. They need to film where I live and come to my store. Of all the Hooters in all the world, it needs to be MINE. I don’t understand how they weren’t mobbed, considering how busy it must have been on that night.

And I’d venture to guess that’s Blue Moon they’re drinking, with the oranges on the rim.
