Zoe Saldana On Maxim Hot 100 List (Again) May 22, 2012

by Anthony Pascale , Filed under: Celebrity,ST09 Cast,Star Trek Into Darkness , trackback

Another member of the Star Trek cast is being honored for their body of work. This time it is the new Uhura who has (once again) made it on to the Maxim Hot 100 list. Zoe is also the cover feature for Cosmo’s brand new magazine, Cosmopolitan For Latinas. See pictures from that below, plus a behind the scenes video. We also take a look at Alice Eve, another Star Trek star that Maxim seems to have forgotten this year.

Saldana on Maxim List For 3rd Year In A Row

The new Maxim Hot 100 is out with their definitive list of the world’s most beautiful women. For the third year in a row, Star Trek’s Zoe Saldana has made the list. While she has never done a photo shoot for Maxim, she still ranks with the mag, garnering the #45 spot (a drop of 8 since 2011). This year Maxim ranked Isreali model Bar Refaeli as #1 hottest woman in the world, see full list at Maxim (btw, Stephen Colbert got himself voted #69!).

Zoe and her Maxim Hot 100 peers

Speaking of magazines, Zoe (who is of Dominican and Puerto Rican background) is also the cover girl for the premiere issue of the new Cosmopolitan for Latinas Magazine. Here are photos from the mag.

And here is a video from of Zoe from Cosmo.

Star Trek’s newest guest actress Alice Eve didn’t make it to Maxim’s 100 list this year. In 2010 she appeared on the cover of the magazine and also ranked 50th their 2010 Hot 100 list, but that was the year her movie She’s Out Of My League came out. Perhaps after the Star Trek sequel hits the screen, Maxim will notice Alice’s assets again, as can be seen below.

She is adorable!

2. richpit - May 22, 2012

Well, congrats, Zoe. I don’t see it, but to each his own.

But, why is she on the cover of “Cosmo for Latinas”?? She’s not Latina, am I right?

3. Anthony Pascale - May 22, 2012

Saldana’s father is Dominican and mother is Puerto Rican. She spent much of her childhood in Dominican Republic and she speaks Spanish fluently.

4. somethoughts - May 22, 2012

So yummy :) grats zoe

5. SherlockFangirl - May 22, 2012

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

6. Spock/Uhura Admirer ;-) - May 22, 2012

Go Zoe!!! :-)

@#2

I was confused about that too. I think somewhere she said she was black, but she is also latina and speaks Spanish as Anthony mentioned.

7. Keachick - rose pinenut - May 22, 2012

Many Dominicans are of black descent. They were brought there as slaves, when slavery was still done. Zoe is also of black descent.

8. shpock - May 22, 2012

sooooooooooo hot!

9. another spock/uhura fan - May 22, 2012

I love her. <3

10. Basement Blogger - May 22, 2012

Oh, the injustice. Alice Eve didn’t make the list. But don’t weep too much fellow Trekkers Star Trek’s de facto satirist Stephen Colbert was um,… 69. Unfortunately, he’s off this week so he can’t do a comic piece on it.

Stephen, might I suggest that Alice Eve be a guest on your show.. Oh, and could you give an interview to TrekMovie.Con out of character. In exchange, we Trekkers will find a way to like Jar Jar Binks of Star Wars: Phantom Menace.

11. Harry Ballz - May 22, 2012

Alice Eve should make the list. So should Brooklyn Decker.

To each their own, but Zoe Saldana on the Maxim list? Uh……no.

12. Spock/Uhura Admirer ;-) - May 22, 2012

@#9 another spock/uhura fan

Another one! Oh, dear kindred, where have you been?

Welcome. :-)

13. Shilliam Watner (Click to see Darth Vader's zipper) - May 22, 2012

She’s a bit thin for me, but I think she’s lovely.

14. LizardGirl - May 22, 2012

Yay Zoe!!

15. AJ - May 22, 2012

Watch Zoe and Kate Bosworth act like 2-year olds (also with JJ-buddy and ‘Hero’ Greg Grunberg and Jeanine Garafolo).

16. boy - May 22, 2012

I think zoe is naturally prettier than alice but alice has a better body.

Zoe is just too skinny.

the pressure of hollywood that women must be thin is sickening.

It will have been better is Zoe’s body type was closer to Nichelle Nichols Uhura from the orignal series.

17. Harry Ballz - May 22, 2012

16. boy “the pressure of hollywood that women must be thin is sickening”

Funny, Alice Eve doesn’t seem to have that problem. She got cast looking just fine!

18. boy - May 23, 2012

#17 Harry Ballz

Alice is not really a big name yet unlike Zoe.

Zoe is the Leading female to the biggest movie is history(Avatar) and is probably right now the most popular black/Latino female actress in the world.

So yes she is probably pressured to look her best and we all know looking your best in hollywood is been a thin size zero.

19. Harry Ballz - May 23, 2012

boy, I have no issue with any of this, I just like a bit more “curve’ on my ladies.

20. Daoud - May 23, 2012

If someone wants to remake “Bewitched” the right way…. Alice Eve is spot on perfect for Samantha. Sounds like a project for K/O Paper Products! I think Boborci would make a good Darrin, yanno?
.
Zoe’s great, but I too prefer Alice.

21. Keachick - rose pinenut - May 23, 2012

Zoe has a different build from Alice Eve.

As a matter of fact, apparently British women of Caucasian heritage have, on average, the largest breasts among women of similar heritage. I heard this on a British TV series with presenter and fashion stylist, Gok Wan. It certainly helps explain Alice Eve’s ample proportions.

Learn something every day…:)

22. J.A.G.T. - May 23, 2012

Oh well, Zoe deserved her spot… but that list looks like a pile of bs… seriously: They voted Nicki Minaj in? Kristen Stewart is ranked higher than Scarlett Johansson and Emma Watson? And Mila Kunis is kinda overrated… I don’t understand some peoples’ taste in women…

23. Daoud - May 23, 2012

@21 Does this “Caucasian Britishness” extend to women in N.Z.? :)

@22 After her turn in The Avengers, Scarlett should advance to #1. Meow.

24. chrisfawkes.com - May 23, 2012

She is on my top ten list. Stunning girl.

25. Landru's cousin, Dandru - May 23, 2012

#2: Yep, she’s a Latina.

26. Navy - May 23, 2012

She is not hot. She needs to learn how to eat, she looks like she has an eating disorder on screen, and film always adds weight to your appearance, so she’s probably dangerously thin. Gross.

27. T'Cal - May 23, 2012

Lots of Trek news lately! Good stuff!

28. Aashlee - May 23, 2012

Zoe is not just an actress; she’s also a dancer with a dancer’s body. She’s fit. Her body type is not going to carry all the extra curves that Alice Eve’s does (which, by the way, is also fit and healthy). Each woman has been given a different body and has made the most of it by staying fit and choosing complimentary clothes, hairstyles, and what-have-you to enhance her natural beauty. Even better, in interviews Zoe and Alice come off as nice, intelligent, and professional.

Both are beautiful through and through — and you don’t need some dumb magazine “let’s-sell-more-copies” ranking mechanism to see that.

29. Danpaine - May 23, 2012

Someone order her a burger, please.

30. J.A.G.T. - May 23, 2012

PS:
Oh and by the way:
Zooey Deschanel only #41 ??? – WTF?

31. Bugs Nixon - May 23, 2012

Sexy space lady.

32. rm10019 - May 23, 2012

26 an 29, you can be very thin and very healthy. Please do some research into nutrition and get your cholesterol checked.

33. denny cranium - May 23, 2012

I think she is EXQUISITE.
and @ 30 yeah Zoey Deschanel only 41?
What up with that

34. VZX - May 23, 2012

My dog’s name is Zoe.

32: I agree. People say I’m too thin and yet my BMI is 23, two points less than the overweight range. Technically, my BMI is considered healthy, but too many people (especially my family) think I need to eat more.

I’m sure Zoe Saldana’s BMI is also in the healthy zone, which is 18.5 to 24.9. IMDB lists her height as 5’7″. So, for her to be too thin with a BMI of 18.4, she’d have to weigh less than 110 pounds.

35. James Cannon - Runcorn Trekkie UK - May 23, 2012

Tooooo skinny…. She does nout for me.

Give me Nichelle Nichols any day..

36. Allenburch - May 23, 2012

Zoe is THE Trek Girl

37. Jack - May 23, 2012

Why do people feel the need to state that they’re not into Saldana or that they don’t think she should be on a hot 100 list? She’s on it — it doesn’t have a lot to do with you.

38. TosFan2 - May 23, 2012

@ 2. richpit

“But, why is she on the cover of “Cosmo for Latinas”?? She’s not Latina, am I right?”

Zoe is black, and her language/culture is Latina. Latina is not a race. Quote from Zoe:

“When I go to the D.R., the press in Santo Domingo always asks, “¿Qué te consideras, dominicana o americana?” (What do you consider yourself, Dominican or American?) I don’t understand it, and it’s the same people asking the same question. So I say, time and time again, “Yo soy una mujer negra.” (“I am a black woman.”) [They go,] “Oh, no, tú eres trigueñita.” (“Oh no, you are ‘dark skinned’”) I’m like, “No! Let’s get it straight, yo soy una mujer negra.” (“I am a black woman.”)”.

39. Red Dead Ryan - May 23, 2012

#37.

Because this site is for expressing opinions. Folks have the right to agree/disagree over any given topic, including Zoe Saldana being on the Maxim Hot 100 list.

40. Jack - May 23, 2012

Don’t give me nonsense about rights, Ryan

41. Jinn-Jinn - May 23, 2012

Yay for Zoe! I love her and more than just because she’s physically beautiful. She appears to be a warm, smart, humorous and confident. For me it takes more than just the physical to make a person beautiful.

42. Navy - May 23, 2012

37: Because we’re allowed to have opinions and the purpose of a forum is to be able to voice them.

43. richpit - May 23, 2012

Thanks for the Zoe details, guys. I was honestly not knowledgeable about her ethnic background.

Now I know.

44. Landru's cousin, Dandru - May 23, 2012

#37: So in other words, you have no idea what a DISCUSSION board is for. Got it.

45. Keachick - rose pinenut - May 23, 2012

I can only speak for myself, but I think I know where Jack might be coming from. It’s to do with many people feeling the need to express negativity about someone, rather than simply well wishing or not saying anything at all. It’s true – complaining that Zoe shouldn’t be on the Maxim Hot 100 list won’t change anything, but it could perhaps leave a bitter after-taste for anyone else reading the comments on this thread.

There seems to be a compulsion among some people to slag off actors/celebrities, with no apparent reason at times. I guess it is because they can on the Internet. It is not just the actor or celebrity that some people go for. It can be a girlfriend also, eg Chris Pine’s girlfriend, Dominique Piek. Nasty stuff has been written about her/to her. Her *crime*, it seems, is to appear with Chris Pine as his guest on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival.

Sorry – but I just don’t get this sort of thing and it is not just because it has something to do with Chris Pine either.

46. Jet - May 23, 2012

She was the worst part of the new movie.

47. Jinn-Jinn - May 23, 2012

@45 People have been negative about rich/famous/infamous for the longest time. Roman citizen drew crude graffitti involving their rulers and all that. The internet and discussion forums just lets some people be meaner faster.

I don’t agree with everything that is said, but I’m not going to argue about it. As for Chris Pine’s girlfriend, I’m sure she has more sense than to go to forums and listen to the inane rantings of unhappy fangirls/boys. After all, she’s dating Chris Pine, she’s got better things to do. :-)

48. Red Dead Ryan - May 23, 2012

#40.

Look, we don’t need you telling us what we can or cannot say. You’re not the “thought police”. We don’t need your approval. Stop with the “holier-than-thou” condescention.

Sheesh!

49. Jack - May 23, 2012

Who told you what you can’t say? I didn’t. I just don’t get it. Keep saying it, sure. Why do we need to voice that we don’t find a woman attractive? Say what you want, I’m not telling anyone to not to talk. Nor would I.

I get having opinions about Trek, talk about the work, but, come on.

And anytime there’s disagreement – words like rights and the thought police start being trotted around.

50. Red Dead Ryan - May 23, 2012

#49.

“Who told you what you can’t say? I didn’t”.

No you didn’t, but you sure did go out of your way to condemn everybody for stating their opinions.

“Why do people feel the need to state that they’re not into Saldana or that they don’t think she should be on a hot 100 list? She’s on it — it doesn’t have a lot to do with you.”

Basically what you’re saying is, the list is done, and any criticism should NOT be allowed. Simply because you say we had no input into the compilation of the list. Ridiculous.

Look, it’s only natural that some people might disagree with how high or low in the Hot 100 list Zoe Saldana fits. Some people find her attractive, others don’t. It’s the way it is. It’s fair game. The people at Maxim were judging women based on their appearances, why aren’t you condemning them? Because I’m sure there are plenty of actresses who deserved to be on the list just as much as Zoe and all the others are.

51. Harry Ballz - May 23, 2012

Zoe’s right arm on that Cosmopolitan cover, she looks anorexic. That is NOT attractive.

52. boy - May 23, 2012

I love Zoe to death, I think for a woman of colour she her done well in having a terrific career.

however we cannot continue to make excuses of women who look unhealthy and frightfully thin.

Most trek fans are genuinely concerned especially when she is playing the role of Uhura. a character from the 1960′s that was known for her curves.

We need to get the message out there about living a healthy life style.

I know some poeople are naturally skinny but Zoe is just way to thin and does not look healthy.

I hope Zoe reads the message one day and decides to put on some weight.

53. Spock/Uhura Admirer ;-) - May 24, 2012

Beauty – or attractiveness – is in the eye of the beholder. What looks anorexic to some looks perfect to others.

“It will have been better is Zoe’s body type was closer to Nichelle Nichols Uhura from the orignal series.”

Well, personally I think Nichelle has the better body type out of all 3 of them, but that’s neither here nor there. I think that Zoe looks just fine for her body type, and she was adorable as new Uhura along with Zachary as Spock.

Ms. Eve looks nice too, but if I were a man, she wouldn’t be my type and her smile is a bit too toothy for me. I read on another thread where people were comparing her to Kara Thrace, and I immediately thought that I didn’t agree and that Katee looks way better (Starbuck was my favorite character for the 1st 2 seasons of that series). I didn’t post that at the time because I didn’t see the point in it. If other people like her and that’s how she looks to them, then okay. There’s no need to ALWAYS comment every time a certain actor/actress comes up on an article just to say how much you don’t like this or that about them, but people are free to that bad if want to. I haven’t seen Ms. Eve in anything as of yet, so hopefully I’ll like her in the next ST movie, if and when…

As far as looks go, we all have our favorites, and it would be nice if people got to celebrate their favorites without the constant stream of insults/negativity that comes from some as soon as a certain actress/actor is mentioned. And I feel like I’m posting this in vain… :-/

54. FarStrider - May 24, 2012

@51. Her arm on the Cosmo cover is a Photoshop FAIL. Look at the other pictures from the Cosmo shoot, and her arms look nothing like that. . . Magazines have been getting in a lot of hot water for photoshopping models to the nth degree lately. . . it is very easy to find bad PS work on google. Go look and be horrified.

55. chrisfawkes.com - May 24, 2012

I am surprised how many say nasty things about a woman on a public forum.

For the most part in Australia if your friends talked about a girl in public the way some do here you would slap them up the side of the head.

I guess in other parts of the world respect for women is not really a priority for some males. By some i mean more than we here would consider average.

Maybe hiding behind the skirt of anonymity adds to that as well.

56. Jemini - May 24, 2012

Zoe is absolutely gorgeous and adorable the more I see pics of her the more I fall in love with her. I love her natural beauty and gracefulness.

@54 I was about to say the same thing. The cover is photoshopped because the rest of the photos aren’t like that. Google Zoe Saldana calvin klein and then tell me against that those people are crazy for thinking that the girl is hot.
She’s naturally thin and she has the body type typical for a girl that had done ballet. A friend of mine is like that too and you have no idea of how much she can eat in a day and yet she doesn’t gain weight (life is unfair!)

Please don’t use the word Anorexia like that it’s a serious eating disorder. She doesn’t look unhealthy to me.

57. Harry Ballz - May 24, 2012

56.

Jemini, I will watch my “p’s and q’s” in the future!

58. Keachick - rose pinenut - May 24, 2012

Jack simply asked a question. Perhaps some people might consider it to be condescending, but that could be because such a question can have a person look in the mirror and necessarily like what they see…

#47 – Yes, I do see what you mean about Dom (I believe Chris calls her that – I hope it is alright if I refer to her by that name – mean no disrespect) having better things to do…:)
The thing is – Dom has a Twitter account and was using Twitter long before she met Chris Pine. She communicates with it to friends and followers who are interested in what she does as a model, where she goes whatever. Why do people have Twitter, given that anyone anywhere can read what you say at any time? Unfortunately, especially since confirmation of her status as Chris Pine’s present girlfriend, people have been twittering to her some very unkind comments. I do not know if there is a filter or an ignore option on Twitter (I don’t have it), but it can be quite hard at times to not see these malicious comments. Maybe she (and Chris) have developed thick skins – I guess you have to do that to some extent, but it can come at a cost. She has a choice – discontinue with Twitter, but then, her ability to communicate and to read other people’s thoughts and ideas is somewhat curtailed. She is forced to forego one avenue open to people now through advances in communication technologies, which has the effect of violating her rights/her freedom of *speech, even though, as far as I know, she has not been rude or offensive to anyone.

I gotta go. Have to make sure a 100 or so kids get their lunches…

59. Keachick - rose pinenut - May 24, 2012

Edit: “and NOT necessarily like what they see”.

60. Jinn-Jinn - May 24, 2012

@58 Oh well then if people are actively seeking her out to insult her, then they just proved themselves to be major league asswipes. There is a difference between disagreeing with someone and going out of your way to make someone miserable.

As for having a thick skin, its practically a requirement for anyone even remotely famous, because there is always someone out there who just doesn’t like them. I have spoken to one person who absolutely hates Leonard Nimoy. Go figure.

But any way, Zoe rocks! :-)

61. VZX - May 25, 2012

Keachick: do you teach? What do you teach?

62. Keachick - rose pinenut - May 25, 2012

No, I do not teach. I volunteer to help get school lunches that are ordered, to the children on time, at my daughter’s school. I also bake cakes etc to help with school/church fundraising. It seems that some people will pay good money for one of my cakes, luckily for the school…who knew?
