Star Trek & Shatner Nominated For TCA Awards + Wheaton & Shatner Win Audie Awards

There’s a few bits of Star Trek-related award news today. First up the original Star Trek series was nominated (again) for a Television Critics Association Award, as was William Shatner. And Bill won an award for his latest audio book, as did Wil Wheaton. And new Star Trek movie star Benedict Cumberbatch picked up another award nomination.

Star Trek & Shatner nominated for TCA Awards

"According to the TCA, the Heritage Award "recognizes a long-standing program that made a lasting cultural or social impact.” Although the TCA awards have been going for 25 years, the Heritage Award has only been given out for the last decade. The previous winners are: “The Simpsons”, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, “60 Minutes”, “Nightline”, “The West Wing”, “The Sopranos”, “The Wire,” “ER,” “M*A*S*H,” and "The Dick Van Dyke Show."

This year Star Trek is nominated along with “Cheers,” “Lost,” “Saturday Night Live,” and "Twin Peaks.” This isn’t the first time Trek has been up for the award. It lost to “M*A*S*H" in 2009.

Also nominated for a TCA Award is Star Trek’s William Shatner for the Career Achievement Award, going up against Dick Clark, Andy Griffith, David Letterman, and Regis Philbin. More info at tvcritics.org/tca-awards.

Shatner and Wheaton win Auddies

Shatner is already a winner this week, winning an Audie Award for the best Humor Audiobook for "Shatner Rules" (which he read himself). And Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Wil Wheaton also picked up an Audie Award for his readin gof John Scalzi’s sci-fi novel "Agent to the Stars." More at theaudies.com.

Cumberbatch Nominated For Critics’ Choice Award

One last bit of nominating news is for Star Trek sequel actor Benedict Cumberbatch who was nominated for Best Actor in Sherlock by the Critic’s Choice Awards. He will be going up against Bill Nighy, Woody Harrelson, Idris Elba, Dominic West, and Kevin Costner. More info at criticschoice.com.

Good Luck to the Shat and Star Trek.

Congrats to all!!

Yes. Congratulations to William Shatner and Wil Wheaton. To round everything off very nicely, I hope that Benedict Cumberbatch picks up the Critics Choice Award this year. He will be standing alongside Chris Pine then.

Very cool indeed…:))!

TOS had better win this award this time. “Lost” was great, but it’ll never have the cult legacy that “Star Trek” has.

It’ll be Cheers and Dick Clark. I’d put 20000 quatloos on it.

Dick Clark will probably win because he died recently. If they don’t give him the award, they’ll be considered asses.

William Shatner should be the RIGHTFUL winner.

Dick’s dead, Jim.

it answers the question, “What question would Jim would least want to hear from his caveman physician?”

OK, pretend you are me. Make a funny comment that you think I would say based on the photo above in this article?

Just for fun, folks. Nothing serious or negative intended.

“Shatner’s ego has gotten so big he thinks the world revolves around him!”

:-)

No thats too funny for MJ, RDR. You need to think gratuitously insulting. ;)

@12. That ‘s the spirit, Buzz! ;-)

Kind of reminds me of the end of the Bugs Bunny/Daffy Duck cartoon Ali Baba Bunny when miniature Daffy is hugging the pearl that Bugs found in an oyster: “It’s mine, all mine! You understand?! Mine, mine!! Go, go, go!! Out! Out! Out! Mine! Mine! Mine!”
