CONFIRMED: J.J. Abrams to direct next ‘Star Wars’ for Disney

Variety and other Hollywood news sources are reporting today that J.J. Abrams is directing the next Star Wars after all.  There aren’t any details other than the fact Disney is close to closing the deal with Abrams. So treat this with a degree of skepticism until we see something official from Disney and/or Bad Robot directly. UPDATE 01/26/2013: Confirmed by Disney and J.J. Abrams

Burk: Into Darkness Villain ‘Tailored’ For Cumberbatch + Film Fits With Roddenberry’s Vision

In a new interview Star Trek Into Darkness producer Bryan Burk talks about how the new movie progresses on from 2009’s Star Trek. He also explains how the role of the villain was tailored to actor Benedict Cumberbatch as well as saying that even though ‘darkness’ is in the name the film is still part of Roddenberry’s vision of a brighter future. Tonight Paramount announced they will be releasing a new augmented reality app tied to the upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness movie. The new mobile application will use ‘context awareness’ to deliver bonus movie content with the first opportunity coming during the (also just announced) Super Bowl commercial for Into Darkness. Fan Passes Way After Having Into Darkness Wish Fulfilled + Italian Trek Fan Club Founder Also Passes

TrekMovie has some sad news to report about two notable Star Trek fans. Over the weekend Daniel Craft, the fan who was recently granted a last wish to see Star Trek Into Darkness, passed away. In addition Alberto Lisiero, founder the the largest Italian fan club and translator for Star Trek films in Italy, also passed away this past week. William Shatner Offers JJ Abrams Some Critical Star Trek Advice + More TNG Doc Details

William Shatner is getting ready to take his Shatner’s World Tour into 2013 and in a new interview promoting his next stop (in Aurora, IL) Bill gave some more details on his upcoming Star Trek: TNG documentary and he also paid a compliment to Star Trek Into Darkness director JJ Abrams (while at the same offering what might be seen as some combination of advice and a critique as well).
