In August Star Trek’s Zoe Saldana will be seen in space on the big screen again in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. And it has just been revealed that her Guardians co-star Chris Pratt was rejected for the role of the new Kirk. Details below plus new featurette with Saldana.

Pratt Turned Down For Kirk

In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, Zoe Saldana’s Guardians of the Galaxy co-star Chris Pratt reveals that he auditioned for the roles of Captain Kirk for the 2009 Star Trek movie (losing out to Chris Pine) and for Jake Sully in Avatar (losing out to Sam Worthington).

Saldana of course landed roles in both Star Trek and Avatar, so it appears that the third time was the charm for Pratt to break out from his Parks and Recreation role and get a chance to go into space with Zoe.

So, the conclusion… Zoe is the big winner always! :)

There’s articles from 2007 about Chris Pratt reading for Trek. This isn’t new information

…he’s pretty damn funny! =)

(too funny for Kirk)(wouldn’t fit with the fake-ness of nu-trek)

he’ll be WAY better in GotG ;-)

Pratt looks a bit like Errol Flynn on that EW cover.

5. Claire - July 15, 2014

He looks better now than he did some years ago, but he lacks the charisma and presence Chris Pine has as Kirk.

Pine is a perfect pick for Kirk, regardless of what some deluded reboot-haters might like to tell themselves.

I think the whiskers could have been funnier but I will wait until I see the entire movie.

Now a beard fad would have been a credible Nero induced changed. Or that resources devoted to defense in his wake never allowed whatever tech it is they used to go beardless.

Always wondered how amnesiac Kirk stayed beard-free when he married and impregnated Miramanee in THE PARADISE SYNDROME?

8. Nony - July 16, 2014

It’s interesting thinking about what could have been, casting-wise. Joshua Jackson went out for both Kirk and Bones. Adrien Brody was up for Spock. I think the main cast they ended up with were the right choices, though.

Until Pine does a proper flying leg kick or punch the intercom button to open comms. he’s just another actor playing at it.

10. Tallguy - July 16, 2014

#7 – did the other men in the tribe have beards?

The other tribesmen where descended from transplanted Amerinds which are known for their males’ lack of facial hair. Kirk was a farm fed Iowa boy who showed five o’clock shadow in many other episodes.

8 Nony, I can’t imagine what the makeup process would’ve been for Adrien Brody. His natural eyebrows kinda point the wrong way!

5 Claire I agree
