Tonight’s episode of the animated Fox sitcom The Family Guy once again turned to Star Trek for a cutaway gag, this time Scotty isn’t really sure that he has been "giving her all she’s got."

Star Trek gag on Family Guy "Book of Joe"

In Sunday night’s episode of The Family Guy ("The Book of Joe") the B story was how Brian had taken up running. And when talking about how he can give it all he can, things turned all Star Trek for an extended gag. Watch it below.

I’m surprised that they didn’t have Sulu drop an “Oh,Myyyy !!!” line in that STAR TREK scene.

I missed last night’s Family Guy.

However, judging from the look of the Enterprise’s bridge, it seems that either Seth McFarlane has lost control of the series or he doesn’t care about how it really looked in the series. Or something else… I dunno.

The bridge looks nothing like the Enterprise, Seth. I’m surprised.

“lost control of Family Guy or how the bridge really looked in TOS,” I mean.

@2 Hat Rick: Oh well. For a mass audience the bridge looks looks pretty darn exactly like the TOS bridge, since it has all the hallmarks: The general polygonal shape, Kirk’s chair with all those buttons in the armrests, Spock’s little viewer-thingie, the red handrails etc.
The differences are actually really minor: More screens, less blinkenlights and a colour scheme more reminiscent of the movie era bridge.

But if you wanna engage in some uber-nerd nitpicking: Before the refit, phaser power wasn’t routed through the main engines!

Joke kind of fizzled, didn’t it? Guess they’re running out of Trek material, or just running out of material altogether from what I hear.

@2 maybe that’s the bridge from Trek2016 (Scotty sure sounds like pegg)

@Voltan – Totally agree. It’s like an SNL skit. Just runs on too long.

“Joke kind of fizzled, didn’t it?”

Isn’t that the whole point of Family Guy jokes. The unfunnier they are, the funnier they are?

What do I know, I still watch the Flintstones.

They should have the done this from the Empire point of view.

Family Guy sucks. There, I said it.

It does sound like Pegg. Did they get him for it?

It sounds nothing like Pegg to me. It’s Seth McFarlane doing the voice.

Family Guy *sucks*. I agree with it. (in spades)

re: “giving her all she’s got.”: H.A.T.E.D. it… =(

keep this kind of crap AWAY from me, please!

This one may have fell flat, but on the whole I’m a giant Family Guy fan.

@JAGT, I suppose it’s close enough for a spoof.

The gag was literally and figuratively phoned in.
McFarlane needs to pace himself. Shooting WAY TOO MANY blanks.

Are you guys all being serious when you say things like:

@13 I am not Herbert –

Family Guy *sucks*. I agree with it. (in spades)

@3 Hat Rick –

Get a life. I mean really, you’re embarrassing yourselves, fandom on the whole, Star Trek and Roddenberry’s good name by commenting on things just for the sake of commenting on things and taking everything so seriously, nitpicking at everything and generally being obnoxious.

I’ve never met a bigger bunch of winey cry babies. This Star Trek is too hot, this Star Trek is too cold, this Star Trek is just right but it didn’t have this so it sucked… Jeez, you people make me sick.

Funny, the line “I’ve lost all credibility haven’t I?”
Yes Mr. McFarlane, you have.
Not a fan, but I am happy Trek is still relevant enough to spoof, albeit badly :)

@17. Herbert is. Surprised he didn’t take advantage of the opportunity to remind everyone that nuTrek sucks. Again.

So I re-watched the original Alien Nation movie the other night, realized for the first time that Sam Francisco was Mandy Patinkin (The Princess Bride, Criminal Minds), and that the movie’s villain was played by Terrence Stamp (original General Zod), and I decided to look up some more things about the film out of curiosity.

I discovered that Fox is working on rebooting the Alien Nation franchise in feature film form. If they do it right they just might earn a little forgiveness from me for cancelling Almost Human.

@18. That line was probably put in as a subtle dig at the fans who like to tell people they are arguing with that they have “lost all credibility”.

Wow, you guys are taking this way way way too seriously…

Yes Seth MacFarlane. After 1,00,00 shit jokes in the west – you’ve lost all credibility.

I thought it was great.

Family Guy continues to be one of the best shows on TV.

#2 Literally the SECOND I saw the bridge, I thought, “Oh, great, some fanboy is going to whine about it not being accurately depicted.” Unfortunately, I was my usual, unerringly perceptive self.

Well, as fans, we have reputation to live up to. Or down to, as the case may be.

And let’s face it: Who wouldn’t complain if they put tailfins on a ’67 Mustang? Same thing with the Enterprise bridge.

Might as well say that the Enterprise could do the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs.

I liked it. I like Family Guy. I love it when Family Guy does Star Trek jokes. (c.f. The Spock wins the lottery gag, or for that matter the entire TNG cast episode, which was great.)

And I don’t give a proverbial hairy rat’s hinder about whether the bridge is screen accurate on a frikkin’ cartoon. Why? Because it’s a joke!

p.s. I also wouldn’t complain if they put tailfins on a ’67 Mustang BECAUSE IT’S A JOKE!

I am one of those nitpicky people, and I liked the bridge in the Family Guy clip. Wish they used something like that in ST09 and STiD.

@13

You are Herbert.

Did you ever actually watch The Way to Eden?

@3 Hat Rick – for legal reasons, Family Guy had to make some changes to the bridge, the animators weren’t allowed to draw it exactly as it appears on Star Trek.

ahhh so mr goodman illuminates our murky minds on tvs legal requirements…thank you sir, i wonder why that is the case, i thought satire/humor wasnt copyright infringement, due to freedom of speech etc….of course i know when family guy spoofed star wars they had lucasfilms ok and even help….that was one of the best spoofs ever…loved it almost more than star wars itself….so how does anyone know when they change an original, how much changing is enough…is there a percentage requirement dave? since the star wars trilogy spoof ive been dreaming of a family guy trek spoof of that caliber…,

Myself i liked the scotty joke but i love the trek spoofs that family guy does especially when they get the original voices for the joke…,like the tng bridge spoof where picard makes fun of worfs klignon head looking like a fanny n worf says you can all suck my ridges hah….family guy like most shows especially comedy has its ups n downs…the best episodes combine humor satire and shock value with touching human feelings of affection, love, friendship, support, nostalgia etc…these epidodes always surprise and delight me sometimes they show real insight into the human condition while you are still chuckling over the last several jokes….family guy,american dad,simpsons, king of the hill, and futurama all did this every so often..,giving these series more emotional depth than you would expect…
