New Book Based on Parody Twitter Account @TNG_S8: “An Engaging Guide to the Never-Aired 8th Season”

A super-popular (and funny) Star Trek Twitter feed is being turned into a full fledged book. For those unfamiliar with @TNG_S8, it is a hilarious, spot-on parody of The Next Generation, which takes the form of episode synopses from an imaginary eighth season. Find out more below the jump.

‘TNG Season 8’ Gets Its Own Book

Mike McMahan, mastermind behind the parody Twitter account, @TNG_S8, is now turning its success into a book. Today it was officially announced that the @TNG_S8 has inspired “Star Trek: The Next Generation – Warped, An Engaging Guide to the Never-Aired 8th Season.” Here is the official blurb via Gallery Books:

On Twitter, Star Trek: The Next Generation lives on for one more season in the form of @TNG_S8—a satirical eighth season that never aired! Each tweet to its more than 85,000 followers (and retweeted four times that amount) is a hilarious recap and spot-on exaggeration of one of the most beloved TV series ever aired. Now, @TNG_S8 creator Mike McMahan presents an officially licensed mockumentary-style book-length “episode guide” to Season 8. With colorful illustrations by Joel Watson of the HijiNKS ENSUE webcomic, and Jason Ho, longtime artist at Bongo Comics (publisher of the comic book versions of The Simpsons and Futurama), each “episode” contains plot descriptions, trivia, aliens new and old, set photos, and behind-the-sceneslooks at the troubled production. This book will appeal to casual and obsessive fans alike, keeping the world of the show intact while hilariously exaggerating it.

The book is set to debut March 3, 2015 as a trade paperback and eBook.

Born From Parody twitter account @TNG_S8
The TNG_S8 twitter helps us relive our favorite TNG tropes, such as: Wesley inventing things that destroy the ship; Worf yelling at things; Riker’s beard; Barclay being impregnated by space worms; Beverly swooning over a ghost trapped inside a loaf of bread; Picard being trapped in a turbolift; and everyone being trapped in various caves.

The parody twitter, @TNG_S8, currently has over 85,000 followers and typically gets retweeted anywhere from a few hundred to over a thousand times per tweet. It is followed by many industry insiders including Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman and Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. Also following are Star Trek TNG producers Rick Berman and Brannon Braga along with many of the TNG stars including Marina Sirtis and Brent Spiner. Suffice it to say that author Mike McMahan (who has also contributed to the popular TV series Rick and Morty) has created something that people like. So, like so many popular twitter accounts before, McMahan is turning TNG_S8 into a full-fledged book, which will be a satirical “Episode Guide” to the non-existent 8th season. No word yet on if he will expand on stories that he has already tweeted about or if it will be totally new material. You can bet that it will be written in the same dry, witty style we’ve come to love (and retweet).

Oh, that’s just GENIUS!

Sounds like it is just a bit better and more plausible than Season 1 + 2 but no Season 3 or 6….

Those tweets above were really funny, eg Riker turning down 5 promotions in one day…LOL

Hmm you know that voyager was technically TNG Season 8 with a new cast, as even the production codes for the episodes shows,

so technically this is a misnomer, as there was a season 8, it was just in the shape of a new spin off.

tch in a battle of wits Janeway and Picard Face off on how many worlds they can conquire in a week while Harry Kim and Wessy Crusher debate on who has the worse possible job on the ship

while riker chases after spot who has eated his trombone’s mouthpiece

Funny stuff! And thanks to Kayla and the rest of the TM crew for keeping this site going. Well done, guys!

“A transporter error turns Barclay into a mattress.”

Do you suppose that’s what happened to Cyrus Ramsey?

“Humor. It is a difficult concept.”

My comedy sensor must be out of alignment again, because I don’t think this stuff is particularly funny, never mind deserving of its own book.

“Galaxy Quest” for TNG, this isn’t.
