Faran Tahir, first revealed to be playing a captain in the new Star Trek on TrekMovie.com is still out doing some promotion for his role in Iron Man, but also taking some Trek questions. Trek’s new Captain revealed to UGO that he is a “closet Trekkie” and also talked about director JJ Abrams approach to Trek and a bit on his character. [MINOR SPOILERS]
Last August The Hollywood Reporter revealed that one of the important roles being cast for the new Star Trek movie was an unnamed ‘Federation Captain.’ In the fall TrekMovie reported that the role was cast but we haven’t been able to put a name to it…until today. TrekMovie.com has confirmed that Pakistani actor Faran Tahir is the ‘Federation Captain.’ The 44 year-old actor has dozens of TV and film credits including a featured part in the upcoming Iron Man. His Star Trek role is said to be both important and not your typical Trek movie captain.
Some Star Trek vets will be appearing on a couple of sci-fi shows over the next few days. First up Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s Nana Visitor and TNG’s John de Lancie will be on tonight’s Torchwood: Miracle Day. And on Monday Star Trek: Voyager’s Kate Mulgrew begins her arc on Warehouse 13. Watch previews below.

In February TrekMovie.com first revealed that the unknown ‘Federation Captain’ (now known to be named Capt. Robau) was to be played by Faran Tahir. In a new interview with Deadbolt, the actor described his Star Trek captain “a good guy” and said his ship has “muscle.” Tahir also talked at length about the significance of his casting and how faithful the film is.

The regular season is over but there is lots of summer fun to report in Sci-Fi TV this week, with news and previews on summer shows Warehouse 13, Eureka, True Blood, Doctor Who, Futurama, and more. Plus there is news for farther down the road, including the return of Torchwood and news on the Star Wars comedy. We even have another Lost update. All that plus the latest television ratings, casting bites and new images and video previews, including Game of Thrones.
The 2009 Star Trek picked up its second guild award today (making it two for two so far). The Screen Actors Guild awarded Star Trek with the Best Stunt Ensemble Award. And in a ‘small world’, it was Scott Bakula who presented the award, who noted the coincidence.
Last night Paramount held a star-studded party for the release of Star Trek on home video. The party was held under the stars at the Griffith Park Observatory in Los Angeles. Many of the Star Trek cast and crew were there, and we have photos from the red carpet, as well as from inside the party.
This weekend (kicking off with a preview tonight) is the annual San Diego Comic Con. Although there are no major Star Trek panels, Trek will still have a big presence at the show from the Paramount Home Entertainment Booth, to the other licensees (including some selling exclusives). There are also Trek celebrities showing up at booths and panels. We have all the details below.
