Disney announced on Monday its purchase of Lucasfilm, and with Lucasfilm comes Star Wars. Disney’s also said that a new Star Wars trilogy will be made. This fall Star Trek director/producer (and co-creator of Lost and Fringe) JJ Abrams has another mysterious TV show headed to NBC, Revolution. The new series is set in a post-apocalypse world where all technology has stopped working. A new clip with footage and interview clips (including Abrams and pilot director Jon Favreau) was revealed at Comic Con and is now available from NBC. Watch it below
On his publicity tour for Dredd, Karl Uban has been making news about the new Star Trek sequel. Now the new Doctor McCoy is making light of possibly releasing spoilers – showing reporters that he has literally been gagged by JJ Abrams, however he continues to talk about something for Star Trek on YouTube. Last night was Fox aired the first part of the two-part finale for the fourth season of of their sci-fi show Fringe. The show included a number of guest stars, including a surprise appearance by a Star Trek veteran. Without a Star Trek movie, TrekMovie has adopted Prometheus as our most anticipated film for the summer. Written by Trek sequel co-writer Damon Lindelof, the film looks to be a cool addition to the Alien universe. And today they released another cool viral video for the film showing off a Weyland robot. Fans are starting to wonder when they will get their first glimpse of the Star Trek sequel currently in production. A possibility could be at the annual San Diego Comic Con in July, and now producer/writer Damon Lindelof is saying that the team has a "strong desire" to be there with something to show. The annual Wondercon was held over the weekend and one of the big events was the reveal of the second trailer for Prometheus, the sort-of Alien prequel written by Star Trek sequel writer/producer Damon Lindelof. Check it out below along with a cool viral video for the film.
One of the biggest shows this fall was the time travel series Terra Nova, which included Star Trek vets Brannon Braga and René Echevarria as executive producers, along with Steven Spielberg. The ambitious and expensive show aired eleven episodes and has been on the bubble, but now Fox has decided it will not pick up Terra Nova for a second season.
A couple of Star Trek luminaries are set to return to TV screens (in addition to Leonard Nimoy heading to The Big Bang Theory). First up, Star Trek's new Spock Zachary Quinto will be returning for the second season of American Horror Story. Plus John deLancie (aka Q) is set for a guest spot on the CW show about witches, The Secret Circle.
Simon Pegg is currently working on his second Star Trek movie as the iconic Scotty, but this Friday the actor is hopping to another franchise to step into the shoes of another established character…this time in a galaxy far, far away. Today it was announced that Pegg is voicing a bounty hunter on Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
