Fox Picks Up JJ Abrams ‘Alcatraz’ + Zachary Quinto Producing 2nd Movie

The cast and crew of the Star Trek movie have been busy this week – on their other projects. Fox has announced some of the dramas they will be picking up for the next season, including JJ Abrams sci-fi show Alcatraz. Fox is also still looking at another show from Star Trek scribes Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. In addition. Star Trek’s Zachary Quinto is producing his second movie.



JJ Abrams Sponsoring Young Filmmakers Contest For Super 8 + Talks About Young Actors in Star Trek & Super 8

To promote Super 8, a movie about some 1970s kids who discover something while shooting a movie, Star Trek director JJ Abrams is sponsoring a contest for aspiring (under 18) filmmakers. JJ Abrams: No Plans To Change Star Trek Sequel Release Date – Still Working On Script

Yesterday we reported that Paramount shuffled around their 2011 production schedule, but was still sticking to their plan to release the Star Trek sequel in the Summer of 2012. Some have wondered if this release date is realistic, but producer (and possible director) JJ Abrams said today there are no plans to change the date. More below


FOX Renews Fringe With Full Season Order + Star Trek: DS9 Reference On Hawaii Five-0

Fringe, the FOX sci-fi show from Star Trek’s JJ Abrams, Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, has been renewed for a fourth season. Despite lower ratings and a move to Friday, Fox is still firmly behind the show, giving it a full season order. Plus Orci and Kurtzman’s other TV show had an extended Star Trek reference on it this week. All the details below



Bruce Greenwood Cast In ABC Pilot “The River” + Trek Producers Have 5 Pilots In Production

It is pilot seasons in Hollywood, with actors all scrambling for roles. One Star Trek star who has nabbed a big one is Bruce Greenwood, aka Captain (now Admiral) Pike from Star Trek 2009 who has signed on to the ABC drama The River. He is the only star from the new movie lined up for the next TV season, but the Star Trek creative team have a few projects in the pipeline.

Online advertisement for J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 uncovered [Update: Super Bowl spot released]

Keeping with tradition, J.J. Abrams’ latest film “Super 8” is veiled in secrecy. The Steven Spielberg-produced project is currently in post-production and the most concrete bit of information we have on it is that it’ll hit theaters on June 10, 2011. Paramount will debut a new teaser trailer during today’s Super Bowl and ahead of its release, an online advertisement has been uncovered. Update: The Super Bowl TV spot has been released. Anton Yelchin: It Would Be ‘Bizarre’ For Abrams To Not Direct Star Trek Sequel + Bob Orci Soliciting Steven Spielberg To Help Convince Abrams

As previously reported, producer JJ Abrams is awaiting the script for the 2012 Star Trek sequel, before deciding if he will also direct the film. However that isn’t stopping others involved from weighing in. Star Trek’s new Checkov Anton Yelchin says it would be "bizarre" without JJ Abrams in the director’s chair. And co-writer Roberto Orci says he is trying to solicit Steven Spielberg to help convince Abrams.




Rumor Control: Abrams Still Not Confirmed To Direct Star Trek Sequel

Just a quick update related to an earlier post. An errant line from the LA Times interview with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman has inspired some to jump the gun with articles saying JJ Abrams has confirmed he will direct the Star Trek sequel, however after checking around, nothing yet has changed on the Abrams directing status.

This week brings the premieres of many of fall’s new TV series, including two from the new team behind Star Trek and one from Star Trek’s original Kirk. Monday saw Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman’s Hawaii Five-0 win its time slot, and Wednesday JJ Abrams new show Undercovers premiered with somewhat disappointing ratings, while last night William Shatner’s $#!* My Dad Says scored big.
