Quinto Is Relaxed About Being Spock May 5, 2008

Some of the actors who have taking on their new Star Trek roles have talked about how ‘daunting’ the challenge has been to step into these roles in this big franchise, but apparently not Zachary Quinto. In a new interview with jonja.net the new Spock says that since the beginning it just ‘felt right.’ The actor said he wasn’t too worried about Spock becoming a big part of his life going forward.

Takei Helped Abrams Choose Cho April 30, 2008

George Takei has talked before about how he has met with Star Trek director JJ Abrams before the film was cast and that he enthusiastically approves of the new Sulu, John Cho. But in a new interview with CinemaSpy, the original Sulu says that he helped Abrams overcome concerns over fan reaction of casting Sulu with a non-Japanese actor.

In a pair of new interviews, the original and new Uhuras are talking about Nichelle Nichol’s suprise visit to the Star Trek set. Nichols talked about what it was an honor for her and how she surprised the cast with her visit (and possibly gave a spoiler), while Zoe Saldana talked about how ‘humbled’ she was to meet Nichols and may also have dropped a spoiler.

Faran Tahir, first revealed to be playing a captain in the new Star Trek on TrekMovie.com is out promoting his role in Iron Man and is also fielding Trek questions. The Pakistani actor, who recently has played a lot of villains (including one in Iron Man), tells SciFi Wire he welcomed the opportunity of playing a role where his ethnicity is actually not an issue at all…

You would think after last month’s publicity tour for Run, Fatboy Run we have heard all we can hear from Simon Pegg, but in a new interview with the official Star Trek Magazine, the new Scotty talks about how he would have loved to hear on-set stories from the original Scotty and he also talks about the production design as well how the film will play with the fans.

Morrison and Nichols Talk a little Trek

In addition to the the female lead, Zoe Saldana (Uhura), JJ Abrams’ new Star Trek film has quite the bevy of beauties. Two of the women headed to the 23rd century we haven’t heard much from are Jennifer Morrison (best known as Dr. Allison Cameron on House) and Rachel Nichols (aka Rachel Gibson on Alias). Both play key roles in the life of Kirk and both talked a little Trek in recent interviews.

John Cho is having a good week. He is out promoting his new movie, Harold and Kumar Go to Guantanamo Bay (which looks hilarious) and he and his wife are expecting their first child. All the while he keeps getting Star Trek questions. The new Sulu isn’t giving plot details (beyond joking “the deathstar blows up at the end”), but talks about the shoot, the director and his approach to Sulu.

Tahir Talks Captain Robau

In February TrekMovie.com first revealed that the unknown ‘Federation Captain’ (now known to be named Capt. Robau) was to be played by Faran Tahir. In a new interview with Deadbolt, the actor described his Star Trek captain “a good guy” and said his ship has “muscle.” Tahir also talked at length about the significance of his casting and how faithful the film is.

Grand Slam XVI: Two Spocks Rock The House April 14, 2008

The ultimate event of the Grand Slam Sci-Fi Summit was the appearances  of the two Spocks, Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy. The pair each had a solo portion followed by a joint appearance (in the same way they often do it when Shatner and Nimoy appear at cons). Of course the actors were not there to reveal big details about the ultra-secret Trek feature film, but their enthusiasm and chemistry was undeniable. Highlights + pics below.

James Cawley is not the only veteran of the fan film Star Trek New Voyages (now Phase II) who is headed to the big screen in JJ Abrams’ new Star Trek. Jeff Quinn, New Voyages’ first Spock, has also landed a small Trek role. At the Saturday night screening for the Phase II episode “To Serve all My Days - 1969 edition,” Quinn talked to TrekMovie about his Star Trek movie experience.

Pegg: Abrams Not Making Trek For Biz But For Love

Out promoting Run Fatboy Run, Simon Pegg continues taking Star Trek questions. Regarding the size of his role in the film, the actor tells AICN he worked on the film for five weeks and “the rough and tumble chirpy engineer from Linlithgow is very much in the film.” He also talked to AICN about Abrams approach to Trek and to EW about fan reaction to his casting.
