Online advertisement for J.J. Abrams’ Super 8 uncovered [Update: Super Bowl spot released]

Keeping with tradition, J.J. Abrams’ latest film “Super 8” is veiled in secrecy. The Steven Spielberg-produced project is currently in post-production and the most concrete bit of information we have on it is that it’ll hit theaters on June 10, 2011. Paramount will debut a new teaser trailer during today’s Super Bowl and ahead of its release, an online advertisement has been uncovered. Update: The Super Bowl TV spot has been released. Anton Yelchin: It Would Be ‘Bizarre’ For Abrams To Not Direct Star Trek Sequel + Bob Orci Soliciting Steven Spielberg To Help Convince Abrams

As previously reported, producer JJ Abrams is awaiting the script for the 2012 Star Trek sequel, before deciding if he will also direct the film. However that isn’t stopping others involved from weighing in. Star Trek’s new Checkov Anton Yelchin says it would be "bizarre" without JJ Abrams in the director’s chair. And co-writer Roberto Orci says he is trying to solicit Steven Spielberg to help convince Abrams.




Rumor Control: Abrams Still Not Confirmed To Direct Star Trek Sequel

Just a quick update related to an earlier post. An errant line from the LA Times interview with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman has inspired some to jump the gun with articles saying JJ Abrams has confirmed he will direct the Star Trek sequel, however after checking around, nothing yet has changed on the Abrams directing status.

Before Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, and Damon Lindelof started working on the script for the Star Trek sequel, the movie that was taking up much of their time for the last year is the sci-fi western Cowboys & Aliens. One again Apple’s new iPad has crossed paths with Star Trek, this time revealing a tidbit about the upcoming sequel. Today the New York Times has an article about iPads being used in Hollywood, with an example of how Star Trek co-writer Roberto Orci used his in a meeting with the Star Trek ‘Supreme Court’, excerpt below.

In August it was reported that Star Trek scribe Alex Kurtzman will be making his feature directorial debut with a Steven Spielberg produced family drama Welcome to People, and now there is a hint that they are interested in bringing in Star Trek’s Chris Pine to star in the film. This week brings the premieres of many of fall’s new TV series, including two from the new team behind Star Trek and one from Star Trek’s original Kirk. Monday saw Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman’s Hawaii Five-0 win its time slot, and Wednesday JJ Abrams new show Undercovers premiered with somewhat disappointing ratings, while last night William Shatner’s $#!* My Dad Says scored big.

Trek Vets Come Up Empty On Emmy Night

The 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Award were held tonight in Los Angeles. Amongst the nominees were several Trek vets, including Star Trek 2009’s Damon Lindelof and Michael Giacchino, as well as Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Patrick Stewart.
