Today is 17th of January, or 1701, which is the date that Cryptic decided to launch the new Free To Play version of Star Trek Online. As we have been reporting, the massive multiplayer game Star Trek Online is moving to a new free-to-play model on January 17th (get it….17-01). And Cryptic just announced that starting tomorrow some players who tried out the game before can get into the free-to-play STO starting tomorrow.

Earlier this year Star Trek Online hosted a contest for artists to design the next USS Enterprise for use in the game. They are now working on creating the in game model for the winning design and some new work in progress images have been released revealing the saucer separation and the auxiliary craft. On January 17th the Star Trek Online massive multiplayer game is getting a reboot by moving to a "free to play" model. In anticipation of that event, Cryptic has created a new cut-scene, which introduces the back-story of the game. The new version again uses a voice over from Mr. Spock himself, Leonard Nimoy. Star Trek Online Season 5 Goes Live December 1, 2011

Today the massive multiplayer online game Star Trek Online has just been given another big update with the release of Season 5. The new update titled "Call To Arms" contains new missions for both the Federation and the Klingons along with a number of new features. Two weeks ago Atari announced they were going to sell Star Trek Online developer Cryptic, and now they have found a buyer. Today it has been reported that Chinese gaming giant Perfect World will be be buying Cryptic for $50.3 million. Details below.

It looks like the 2 1/2 year relationship between game publisher Atari and Star Trek Online developer Cryptic is over. Atari has announced plans to "divest" from Cryptic and confirmed with TrekMovie that they will continued to support Star Trek Online while they look for a buyer for Cryptic. Details below
