Today Atari/Cryptic kick off a promotional weekend aimed at bringing in new players and for bringing back players. Starting today new players can play a free demo version of the game, and returning players can play for free this weekend. We also have new videos with more hints to make you a better player.
Atari/Cryptic have announced programs to both help bring in new players to their MMORPG Star Trek Online, and to keep players playing. In May they will be rolling out a loyalty program, a referral program for current gamers, and a free demo version of the game for those who are thinking of trying the game. Details below
The folks behind Star Trek Online have released a new video showing off a mission at the famed "Deep Space Nine" space station. Before the MMORPG Star Trek Online was released on PC, members of the Cryptic team had confirmed the game would eventually also be developed for at least one of the gaming consoles (XBox 360 and/or Playstation 3). However, not it appears that this will not happen, or at least no happen any time soon. STO’s executive producer has now confirmed that a console version is ‘on the back burner.’

Zachary Quinto caused a bit of a tempest earlier in the week with his comments in one interview about taking a break from Star Trek. In some new interviews promoting Star Trek Online, the actor goes into more detail on his plans for the near future, and how he plans to return to Trek after doing some of his own projects. Star Trek Online has its official launch on Tuesday February 2nd, however the ‘head start’ for the game went live just minutes ago.
