Cryptic Studio’s highly anticipated massive multiplayer game, Star Trek Online, is taking a big step towards its release today with the announcement that the game is now ready for the closed beta test. This is a big milestone that indicates the game is still on track for release in early 2010. Today’s update for Cryptics Star Trek Online MMORPG starts off with two cool videos giving you a glimpse into the STO backstory and some Klingon combat. Plus we have a whopping fifteen new screenshots, and lots of new details on game.

This week Cryptic went all the way to Germany to show off their upcoming MMORPG, Star Trek Online. While there they showed off a promotional video of the game showing space and ground footage. It has been almost a month since TrekMovie’s last update for Star Trek Online, the upcoming MMORPG, so we have a bit of ground to cover. This update includes screenshots, an update to Cryptic’s FAQ, and some new story elements, where even though they are in the Prime Timeline, Cryptic is still trying to incorporate elements from the Star Trek movie.
In the last couple of weeks there has been quite a bit of activity for the Star Trek Online MMORPG. The new Star Trek movie is not easy to classify. The film is not a traditional prequel like Star Wars Episode III, nor is it a traditional ‘canon reboot’ like Batman Begins. Cryptic have released details on their first Klingon Empire ship for their Star Trek Online MMORPG. The new game takes place in 2409, a few decades after Nemesis, with the the Federation facing off in a war against the Klingon Empire (and allies).
