Star Trek’s most prolific screenwriter Brannon Braga is penning a Star Trek comic book. This afternoon IDW announced the upcoming series "Star Trek: The Next Generation – Hive," and as the name implies, it is all about the Borg. The series kicks off in September. Another way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation could be headed to your PC, console or mobile device, but this one needs your help. Game developer Farsight Studios is an expert in digitizing classic pinball machines and they want to bring the Star Trek: TNG table to your, but need to get financing to cover the licensing. So they have gone to Kickstarter. If you give them a hand with $10 or more, you can be the first with a copy of the game.
There’s a few bits of Star Trek-related award news today. First up the original Star Trek series was nominated (again) for a Television Critics Association Award, as was William Shatner. And Bill won an award for his latest audio book, as did Wil Wheaton. And new Star Trek movie star Benedict Cumberbatch picked up another award nomination.

Fresh from his weekend appearances at Phoenix Comicon, Star Trek: The Next Generation’s LeVar Burton was involved in a non-injury traffic accident this morning, with the twist that his Lexus was rear-ended by a police car. However, with the addition of Patrick Stewart to their line-up it turns out that Wizard World Philadelphia Comic Con being held May 31 – June 3rd will get the honor of first collection of five Trek captains. Joel Goldsmith, son of famed film composer Jerry Goldsmith and a talented composer in his own right, died of cancer at the age of 54. Joel was the eldest of six children by Jerry Goldsmith, and he reportedly began assisting his father with electronics in his scores as early as 1976 on the science fiction adventure Logan’s Run.
