William Shatner NOT In Life Or Death Struggle February 4, 2008

The current issue (which came out last Friday) of The National Enquirer has a story titled WILLIAM SHATNER SURGERY TURNS INTO LIFE-OR-DEATH DRAMA which would be pretty big news if it were true. The story states that Mr. Shatner suffered heart complications during hip surgery. After being sent tips to the story, TrekMovie.com checked in at Shatner HQ and was told that Bill was fine, that he has had no surgeries and the whole thing was made up.

Minimates Go Mirror + New Lines Coming From Diamond Select February 1, 2008

Ever since Star Trek Enterprise brought back the Mirror Universe with the popular “In a Mirror, Darkly” in 2005 the alternative place with the beards has been all the rage. Pocket Books has released a couple Mirror Universe books with more on the way and IDW recently announced a Mirror comic, and now Diamond Select is headed to the other side.

A little birdy has tipped me off to fightingthedead.com, a new teaser site for a sci-fi/genre TV project for 2008. Not sure what network or what it is called (possibly ‘Fighting the Dead’?), but apparently it involves many Star Trek veterans from in front and behind the camera. Once at the site you may even be able to distinguish one of their voices.

Dochterman To Complete His “Enhanced Doomsday Machine” January 25, 2007

Daren Dochterman, the Visual Effects Supervisor on the Directors’ Edition of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, has been working on a CGI-enhanced version of "The Doomsday Machine" for many years. He even presented a version of his work to Paramount TV over 2 years before they decided to give Star Trek Remastered the go ahead. That version has been available at his site (TrekEnhanced.com) and on YouTube for over a year, but Dochterman has been quietly working on a ‘final version’ which he announced at his site today.

JJ Abrams best friend Greg Grunberg was on Jimmy Kimmel Live last Friday, and Jimmy asked him about being in Trek XI. Grunberg said that he may not want to sit for eight hours of make-up for just a line, but Abrams may not give him a choice.

New Opening Credits…now with new model [UPDATED] January 14, 2007

The CBS Digital team took the opportunity of doing "Wink Of An Eye" to finally put the new improved model of the Enterprise into the opening credits. This episode was the first season 3 episode and each season has a slightly different opening title sequence. CBS-D will now ‘retrofit’ this title sequence for future season 1 and season 2 episodes. So here it is…IN STEREO (the music is slightly different for season 3 as well)

UPDATE: The audio sync has been fixed in both the WMV and YouTube versions, enjoy!

CBS Wants Trekkies To Get A Second Life

During his Keynote speech at CES this week, CBS Chairman Les Moonves talked up how CBS is getting hipper to the whole interweb thing. Moonves announced a series of initiatives and partnerships in the digital world, including making clips of its shows available for ‘video mashups’. Moonves told crowd: "there’s no such thing anymore as old or new media — there’s just media." Star Trek is part of this vision with the announcement of a partnership to build a ‘Star Trek Environment’ within the Second Life online community. Moonves brought out the Founder of Linden Labs, the makers of Second Life, to demonstrate the possiblities.
