I’m glad you re-posted this.
It reminds me of “Return of the Archons” meets “Life of Brian.”

Yeah, wondered what happened to it, watched it then it was gone a few minutes later. Glad its back up, funny. “Highly evolved……highly created life”. :-)

Despite the fact that it was in bad taste I did laugh and wasn’t offended but I can see why and understand why other who would be offended by it. Gene Roddenberry wouldn’t approve considering his views.

LOL!
Thanks for posting this. Very good skit.

The skit was good.
It may offend those who take the prophecies of the End Times literally but I don’t think it was mean spirited.
The late Jerry Falwell had a great sense of humor and even he might have laughed at this spoof.

Well im an agnostic so nothing here to offend me…

So the question foremost on my mind is… Who’s the tasty bird? Whats her name so i can google her and see what else she’s been in!

Roddenberry was an athiest. I’m sure he’d approve.

Very funny pop at Evangelical extremists and George Bush. :)

7 – Al – “We must question the story logic of having an all-knowing all-powerful God, who creates faulty Humans, and then blames them for his own mistakes.” — Gene Roddenberry

I’m not an atheist. But, I am open to healthy, vigorous debate on the subject of God, Man, and religion. Oh, and a laugh is good just about anytime.

Plays like propaganda.Remember Hitler and the Jews. The nazis created incriminating films to dehumanize and mock the Jews and played on peoples ignorance.Never again?

I love Jesus as much as the next girl

but some people seem to need to loosen their bible belts…it is cutting off air to their senses of humor

Comparing this parody to the persecution of the Jews would be laughable if it didn’t imply deep lack of understanding.
If I have to be subjected to all the Fundamentalist “propaganda” on TV, in print and in films then they can suffer through this 2 minutes of fun at their expense.
It points out the absurdity of willful ignorance masquerading as spiritual enlightenment. If you believe that God made the world, then go out and look at it – see for yourself how it work! The universe is not out to trick you.

Is this supposed to be offensive to the Christian or the non-Christian? To me it is offensive simply due to its lameness and the fact that I wasted a couple minutes watching it.

the most offensive thing about this is i won’t get that 2 minutes of my life back. what a stupid, unfunny, piece of crap.

#10: “Plays like propaganda”

No, it doesn’t.

#10: “Remember Hitler and the Jews.”

Very well, thanks. Remember Godwin’s Law?

You know, this was a mildly amuzing piece of fluff.

Nobody witha a healthy, balanced outlook on life should be offended.

As an Englishman, I’ve sen my countrymen parodied often. I mean, ho many times are Englishment the bad guys? That’s stereotyping and typecasting in the proudest Hollywood tradition.

Bad SNL sketch, basically.

I fear the future is further away than I previously thought after reading some of the previous comments.

Godwin’s Law invoked.

Re: Godwin’s Law
I’m all for dropping this topic but I have to thank Dennis and Bobby for the reference. Now instead of getting irate and drafting a lengthy reply all I have to do say ‘Godwin’s Law’.

Well…….I didn’t find it offensive or funny, just lame!
Yawnnnnnnnnnnnn

Mike :o

This wasn’t really funny it was kinda stupid. Typical, take a perfectly good space travel saga and use it as an anti-religion mouthpiece. Btw I wasn’t offended I just thought it was stupid. Falwell wouldn’t laugh he probably would roll his eyes like I will when I remember this video. Lame is right #20. Yet more jealous idiots attacking christianity. Rules exist for a reason, those who break them and suffer the consequences then attack a group of people who following the same rules without anything bad happening to them. That makes the attackers hypocrites.

Well, said, I’m begining to see that there is definate bent on this site to purposely try and attacl anything Christian, or Conservative.

Sad, really sad. Again I have to ask… “What of IDIC, what of tolerance, for an oppinion or belief other than yours?”

Why go to the effort of purposely offending any group? Shows a definate lack of maturity and tolerance.

“I’m Jesus! That was a test!”

Classic.

It’s a little better than an SNL sketch because they seem to know when to call it quits.

No fair #20 is getting all the credit for calling it lame. I called it lame way back on comment #13. :)

Thought I’d share some of my favorite quotes on religion…

What do I believe? As an American I believe in generosity, in liberty, in the rights of man. These are social and political faiths that are part of me, as they are, I suppose, part of all of us. Such beliefs are easy to express. But part of me too is my relation to all life, my religion. And this is not so easy to talk about. Religious experience is highly intimate and, for me, ready words are not at hand. …ADLAI E. STEVENSON

All religions, arts and sciences are branches of the same tree. All these aspirations are directed toward ennobling man’s life, lifting it from the sphere of mere physical existence and leading the individual towards freedom. …ALBERT EINSTEIN

Religions are many and diverse, but reason and goodness are one. …ELBERT HUBBARD

This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness. Whether you believe in God or not does not matter so much, whether you believe in Buddha or not does not matter so much. You must lead a good life. …THE DALAI LAMA

Make your own Bible. Select and collect all the words and sentences that in your reading have been like the blast of triumph out of Shakespeare, Seneca, Moses, John and Paul. …RALPH WALDO EMERSON

I don’t care to belong to a club that accepts people like me as members. …GROUCHO MARX

Okay, granted the last one wasn’t a comment on religion by Groucho, but still… Of all the things created by God and Man… Humor and laughter are defintely in the top five… Not sure of the order but that list also includes pizza, sex, and Star Trek. :)

That clip is just representative of what the MTV/VH1 group does .Bully and attack .I understand their agenda and have seen how they soft pedal bigotry and ignorance with “humor”.I don’t find this kind of thing constructive.I see from some of the comments here that people have already been desensitized.Sad ,tacky stuff.

No wonder why people hate the Neocons. Grow up and get a sense of humor. Or have your invisible man in the sky smite me.

I’m not a neocon (I think your comment is directed at me).I just have respect for the dignity of others.A mature trait.

I guess those who have their Trek underoos all in a bunch failed to read the warning under the clip: “If you are easily offended, don’t watch.”

Right on! I think god has more of a sense of humor than some of his followers do.

I am easily amused by those who are easily offended.
And I mean that in the good, Christian sense.

Very nice, a parody in the true spirit of Star Trek. “We can make fun of no-one… except Christians. They are fair game.”

Yes, the ideals of IDIC are nicely upheld here.

Thank you diabolik. It’s like they re saying “We’re gonna have an exclusive little hate club meeting and if it bother’s you tough ,don’t watch”(refering to the disclaimer).I wonder what would happen if they tried that with anyone else?Good people need to speak up.Because it’s like that saying”.I didn’t speak up when they went after one group, then I didn’t speak up when they went after yet another group and in the end they got ME because no-one was left to speak up.”

Sorry ‘Bout my double-click

As a Christian who knows he’s not perfect, I see this as a parody of human nature, not an attack on Christianity. This COULD be done about Jews, Zoroastrians, or Dalteks. It’s really saying: “Don’t take yourself too seriously.” I’m with #11.

“Humor and laughter are defintely in the top five… Not sure of the order but that list also includes pizza, sex, and Star Trek. :)”

Actually, I’m pretty sure the best thing in life would be to combine all of above into one evening….
Maybe add a bouncy castle into the mix too. They’re pretty fun.

As for the whole religious debate here, I think the world would be a much more peaceful place if only everyone would stop trying to boss each other around and browbeat others into accepting any one worldview or set of beliefs. That goes as much for, say, an atheist who proclaims all relgious people as stupid, as it does for a Bible-bashing evangelist who tries to intimidate non-believers with threats of eternal hellfire.

Just be nice to people! If there is a God, I’m sure He’s shouted himself hoarse over the millenia trying to get humanity to do that one simple thing for Him.

This discussion reminds me of Eco’s “The Name of the Rose”, where murders were commited over whether religion should include humor.

Any religion without a sense of humor should be greatly feared.

Think they’d do an Islamic parody, with the women wearing burqas or hijabs?

Nah, me either. They might get upset.

This makes me think of another “battle,” in this case only one person says she’s defending Christianity.

#24 You’re right Spanky….we think the same!

The movie Borat is a good example of something that could be quite offensive, but at the same time very entertaining and funny. But to me, this video wasn’t funny, clever or entertaning in any way…just lame!

Mike :o

#41… Right on… they would be afraid to do that towards Islam… they might get killed. The most the Christians will do is protest it verbally.

So… to the lions! These pesky “Son Worshipers” won’t fight back!

#43 Michael John

That’s “Stanky” not “Spanky”…Spanky is McFarland. :)

Why is there never a “none of the above” in any of these polls?

#38 Anthony .does that mean your going to run evry bigoted Star Trek parody and tell your audience to take it up with the hate mongers?

Hmmm… A Christian-themed Trek parody or a Trek-themed Christian parody?

Ans: Lame in either event, and lame by SNL 1970s cheap-skit standards.

Interesting sets with their control panels. I liked the command recliner, too!

Overall, mildly amusing, mostly ignorant, but not too disrespectful for a humorous attempt at satire. I suppose you’re still #1 so long as the huddled masses are taking cheap shots at you.

That is to say, Jesus has nothing to worry about from this crowd of malcontents.

#45 I knew there was a “Spanky” that was a regular on this site too. Sorry Stanky!
