New Star Trek (Dominion War?) Wii Game

Haven’t heard much from Bethesda since they launched a slate of Trek games in 2006, but this week a new game titled ‘Star Trek: Conquest’ has come out of nowhere. It has shown up at the Gamefly rental service (which is known to leak games from time to time). Gamefly only provide a game category (Action/Aventure), a release date (11/03/07) and box art (pictured right…click to enlarge). The Nintendo Wii is the best selling new game platform and so it is a natural for the Bethesda to take advantage of it. From the looks of it this is a new game and not a port of one of the other games. Hopefully the game will take advantage of the Wii’s unique ‘Wiimote’ controller.

Dominion War?
As noted there is nothing out about the game but the box cover (and title) may provide a big hint. It shows symbols for the UFP, Romulans and Klingons on the left and the Dominion, The Breen and the Cardasians on the right. Any DS9 fan will tell you that those are the two sides for the Dominion War. The category for  ‘Action/Adventure’ is a bit confusing as one would more like associate a ‘Conquest’ game as a strategy game…but who knows.

There is nothing about this game on the official Bethesda Star Trek Games site, but when more info becomes available it will be reported on TrekMovie.com.

If this is a Dominion War Game it would not be the first. ‘Star Trek Deep Space Nine: Dominion Wars’ was released on PC in 2001. It would also not be the first game with Conquest in the title, Activision released a ‘collectibles’ game StarTrek: ConQuest Online in 2000.

Maybe its a batleth game

First!

PLEASE BE REAL PLEASE BE REAL!!

Sounds great! I hope it is based on the Dominion War.

Maybe there’ll be a Fan Collective DVD release of the Dominion War DS9 episodes to go along with the game? (Hey, I can dream, can’t I?) ;)

I’ve lost all faith in Star Trek games this will be CRAP

part of the ideology of star trek, the ideal that the future will be a better place, therefore there will be better things … I Hope so, dominion wars was one of the best ST games and i can’t help but salivate at another chance!!

Wha-? This really did come out of nowhere. Alas, I pray for an Xbox 360 port.

Since its being made by Bethsoft, who made that stinking pile of crap known as Star Trek Legacy, I won’t be getting this game. Sad but true.

It will likely be along the lines of Legacy and/or SFC… but I’d like to see it be a tactical fps like SOCOM or somesuch.

Microprose were the best company to ever hold the Star Trek game license.

I liked the Spectrum HoloByte Trek Game for SNES. I know I’m in the minority on that one for sure!

It’s definitely got the Dominion in it (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Image:Dominion_logo.png), which – as far as I’m concerned – means I’ll be buying it. The Dominion has been left out of far too many games; Legacy, Armada 2, just to name a couple off the top of my head.

I also see the Cardassian emblem (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Image:Cardassian_Union_logo.png) on the front, and that’s the Breen (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Image:Breen_Confederacy_logo.png) in the middle.

Yep, looks like full-on Dominion War to me.

Great Zeus, I hope they have a PC port.

#10 – Microprose:

“Birth of the Federation” is one of my favorite Trek games ever, but they also had that FPS Klingon game, which was atrocious. Is there another game I’m thinking of?

IMO, Interplay was the best. They had “25th Anniv.” and its followup, featuring the voices of all TOS actors. The did “Starfleet Academy,” which wasn’t fantastic but still cool on occasion, and they had “Klingon Academy,” which I loved and occasionally do a “quick battle” with to this day.

I’m boycotting Bethesda cos they haven’t fixed Legacy yet. They are customer and platform hostile. They won’t see ANY cent from me until there is a fundamental change in their philosophy of producing and releasing games.

This company does not deserve my money. And I force everyone to carefully consider about buying another game from them.

So far, no Star Trek game has topped “Star Trek: Voyager – Elite Force” and “Star Trek: Elite Force II” for me. A Dominion War game would be good but I was dissapointed with Legacy and don’t have much faith in Bethesda.

Conquest already exists I believe. I remember that the people who were making Legacy totuted off “Legacy – Next Gen; Conquest – Current Gen; Tactical War – Mobile”. meh

i will be getting a wii now

I would really like a Trek FPS for the wii, that would be AMAZING, the wii remote being a phaser, the nunchuck a Tricorder, or you could be a klingon where the combination of wii remote and nunchuck form a bat’leth. But this will probably be along the lines of the other game produced recently. I know I will be getting this game!!!!

I think Elite Force is the best Trek game so far, followed by Bridge Commander. I still have to get EF2

i liked Elite Force 1 and 2 , But for me , the best Star Trek game to this day , has to be Birth of the Fed, what a game i still play it today , and there are some great mods for it ,

I’m still addicted to Star Trek: Armada II.

That game saved my sanity while I was held up in Alpine, Texas after evacuating for hurricane Katrina.

Right there with you, Sean4000. Armada ll is just plain awesome. I never tire of playing it. I’ve had great success recruiting friends to play it who had never given it a chance. Hours of great fun.

Bethesda botched the PC version of Legacy so bad, I would almost assume that this game consists of unused portions of the DS9 section of Legacy.

In Legacy, there are tons of missions and story with ENT, TOS, and TNG, and then all of a sudden… a couple of quick shots of DS9 and VOY. As the company ran out of time making the game (after delay after delay) they probably had a lot of undone ds9 dominion war stuff. So, in classic Bethesda fashion, they’re slapping the unused stuff together, instead of taking any time to make a decent patch for the PC disaster. Anything to milk that license while they can.

Boy, did they botch legacy, you’re right on that!

I have Wii and im getting this Trek game :) but still hope they but Star Trek TOS Remastered to bluray too :)

BOYCOTT THIS GAME.

BETHESDA screwed the Star Trek community with Star Trek : Legacy and 6 months after its introduction even the simplest of problems remain unfixed. In fact they have admitted in their forums that they do not plan to fix provide any updates.

Frankly the problem is as much the fault of CBS Consumer Products who basically rubber stamps these games in order to show earnings. It is a shame that they continue to destroy the Star Trek brand in hope of selling 75k copies of a Wii title.

Bethesda rushed Legacy out the door by X-mas because it was supposed to be released in the fall to coincide with Star Trek’s 40th Anniversary and was already months behind schedule. That’s not an excuse, just a reason (I would have preferred a fully featured game with less bugs).

Here’s why I’m cautiously optimistic this time:
1.) There’s no anniversary schedule.
2.) Bethesda did not develop Legacy, Mad Doc did. Bethesda just published it. Since there aren’t any other logos on the box, this one may be an in-house game, which could mean better quality.

I will, however, try the game before I buy it!

Bah!…bring on LEGO Star Trek:Original Series…NOW THERE’S a game I would play with the brats… The Lego Star Wars games were terrific, and the new Lego Indiana Jones game looks like it will be a lot of fun too… :)http://www.lucasarts.com/games/legoindianajones/

Bought it. played it. loved it.
