Nimoy Readying His Return As Spock

Over the weekend Leonard Nimoy made a surprise appearance at Lightspeed Fine Art’s 8th Annual Celebrity Charity Benefit in Orange County, CA. According to a report at StarTrek.com Nimoy joined Trek alums Robert Picardo, Nana Visitor, Garrett Wang, and Connor Trinneer signing autographs and helping with the auction. The actor also told the crowd that he will soon be donning the pointy ears for the new Star Trek feature currently in production.

Nimoy talked about his preparations to play the character of Spock again for the first time in over a decade:

I was on the set of the new ‘Star Trek’ movie a couple of days ago. I was doing some tests on my makeup and my wardrobe. The movie is gonna look fantastic, and we’ve got some wonderful people at bat and a great script. I start filming in about two weeks, and then we will be in the theaters Christmas ’08, so I assume you’re all looking forward to it. I certainly am.

Can’t Wait!!

First!

first :)

:(

Doesn’t it just make you happy to hear him say that?

Fourth is good!

Or 5th

what is it with this “FIRST” stuff? I don’t get it. say something intelligent or don’t say anything. who cares what number you are…give insight, give your thoughts, but stop with the “FIRST” comments. I don’t even look at your names, i just skip to real comments.

I’m looking forward to seeing Nimoy on the big screen again….

…almost as much as I look forward to seeing SHATNER!!!!

Hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

It’s ironic that Nimoy, playing a Vulcan, may just have the last laugh! :)

#7 I look at their names- as I then know to take any future posts they may make just a little less seriously.

I’m so excitedddd!!!!! :D I can’t wait for the first spy photo’s of Nimoy as Spock again.

I can’t wait to hear somebody call Spock by his first name…..Timmy! :)

Awesome stuff…very exciting to know that THE mr. spock will be in action in as little as 2 weeks. Wish Christmas would get here so we can count down from the final year. And to those with their “First’s”…nobody cares, leave something worth reading or go away

It’s going to be great to see Leonard Nimoy back in action.

7, 13:

I’m with you. I have been first a few times and not only did I not trumpet it, but it made me the first in that thread to overlook something which a later poster pointed out.

Anthony–how about changing the rules that all posts that even mention being first are deleted so we can stop wading through this muck once and for all?

I love that in the photo above he’s wearing a bright blue V-neck shirt with black shirt underneath — looks like he’s in his old uniform (with a jacket over it)!

Come on JJ get Mr Shatner in there too !!!

I hope he grows the sideburns even though old Spock is probably not in Starfleet.

I want pix NOW!

Peace. Live long and prosper.

Oh, I can’t wait!:)

Leonard’s back in town as Mr. Spock!:)

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I agree with #7 #10 #13 #15. This first bs reminds me of little kids in preschool running to a pole the first one there says first,,, and then we all go inside for cool aid.
^
All you first ers.. Its lame….we think your infants.
^
Evolve….for sake of mankind.

I’m looking forward to the movie. I hope it doesn’t involved old Spock saving a young Kirk from 24th century Romulans. That won’t make any sense to me considering that he already bit the bullet in Generations.

Luckily for Leonard Nimoy, they’ve just discovered a new drug that will keep the ears on an old man very pointing and firm — Vulcangra.

#12: It would have to be Timmqqqqqqqqqqqy, since his name is unpronounceable.

Of course, we could just say the q’s are silent. Hmmm…

yay!!!

#24 — No, it’s spelled T’ym93*i’iy, but the 93* is silent.

It’s really sad to think that McCoy is all decomposed and Scotty is all burned up, but at least we still have Nimoy to carry that classic Trek flag into the 21st century.

That’s “alumni”, not “alums”.

I can’t wait to see him in costume again. It’s been too long.

re 4
“Doesn’t it just make you happy to hear him say that?”

What else WOULD he say?

re: “First” Whiners

It’s no big deal.

30- I’m with you Stanky. Big deal. I can’t imagine why anyone would bother to be SO troubled by such things and then expend the entergy to write a post about how something so trivial gets on their nerves. Very anal to be sure.

No babies or animals are are harmed when typing the word “first”.

No harm no foul, life goes on.

32nd!

What is the carbon footprint of doing the “first” thing? You will receive your bill in the mail soon. >;>}

If Leonard’s satisfied so am I.

#22… but he dies in Generations a long time after. Surely Spock would go back to save the younger Kirk if he learned of a time-travel plot to kill him before he did all his exploits.

It’s amazing. We haven’t seen Nimoy as Spock since TNG’s “Unification”. It’s going to be a great experience to see him onscreen one more time.

When I first heard about this movie and the recasting of all the TOS crew, I was concerned… But if Leonard Nimoy is willing to participate, then I know it will be OK. I cannot imagine Leonard agreeing to be involved in anything less than a quality feature, given his long and well-documented concern for the integrity of Star Trek overall and Spock in particular.

Is Leonard in costume in that pic? Heh.

#31:”No babies or animals are are harmed when typing the word “first”.”

Every time you post “First,” God kills a kitten.

Please, think of the kittens.

Everyone who has a problem with “first”, get over it. Any of you who’ve ever visited aintitcool.com should know about the whole “first” thing. Stop wasting space with your complaining. This is supposed to be for comments regarding the story in question, but like so many chatrooms out there it becomes a place for people to yack about anything and everything. Please, remember what this space is for.

That said, I’m looking forward to the movie more and more each day. My only real concern is what the Enterprise is going to look like. I love the cast and what I’ve seen of the costumes and I think Leonard Nimoy’s comments regarding the film are extremely encouraging. I don’t recall him having quite so many nice things to say about any of the other films with the possible exception of The Voyage Home and The Undiscovered Country.

Since Leonard said it was a great script, it is going to be a great Star Trek movie!

Spies, post the pics here! :)

I cannot wait to go to watch this great movie! :)

@39 – must be a lot of dog lovers here, then! ;)

What’s with this “Spock’s first name is Timmy?” Jane Wyatt herself once said that it was HAROLD!

Mother knows best, y’all.

As for the movie: “Leonardo locutus, causa finita.” (Leonard says so, case closed.) It’s goona be great!

I like how Leonard (I’ve been watching him on tv since I was born Im allowed to call him that) had been limiting his Trek movie parts until something he deemed worthy came along. That should be a sign that this will kick butt!

So Leonard is digging the sets and costumes and makeup?

Very cool.

“I cannot imagine Leonard agreeing to be involved in anything less than a quality feature, given his long and well-documented concern for the integrity of Star Trek overall and Spock in particular.”

Star Trek V, anyone??!!

Thank you all for keeping Timmy alive. If I hear the name uttered in the film, my life shall be complete.

OK, maybe that’s overstating it, but how cool for me would that be. I liked Anthony’s suggestion. T’meh.

“What else WOULD he say?”

Well, judging from the past (i.e., GENERATIONS), if he wasn’t enthused by the script or other aspects of the production I expect he would say, diplomatically, something on the order of, “The producers approached me to play the part of Spock earlier this year for the upcoming Trek film. I had some concerns about script, however, and we were unfortunately not able to come to terms on that. I wish them and the film every success.”

That’s quite a far cry from signing on to a film after a ten-year hiatus from acting and enthusicastically endorsing the script. Nimoy’s own artistic judgements aren’t infallible, of course. But he’s clearly excited about participating in this project, and for my money that’s the best omen this film has going for it thus far.

There is a new rumor about the Big E on Trekweb and the link is:

http://trekweb.com/articles/2007/12/04/Rumor-Mill-New-Redesigned-Starship-Enterprise-Revealed-.shtml

Am I the only one who’s less than excited about Leonard Nimoy being in this movie? Nothing against him or the original Spock…I like the both just fine…I just wish this wasn’t a time-travel story. Time travel has been done to death in sci-fi and Trek. How about we focus on the *new* and tell a completely *original* TOS story?

Just sayin’.
