Star Trek’s new Scotty is a daddy. Today Simon Pegg confirmed that last week he and his wife Maureen brought a new sci-fi nerd into the world, a girl. The family is keeping more details to themselves, but Pegg says all are fine. The baby, born in Los Angeles, is the couple’s first child.

The Pegg family only announced the pregnancy in February, and only made the announcement today because it was picked up by Us Magazine Pegg then wrote on his blog:
Hello all,
As is being reported by various news sources (don’t know who told them, ‘cos it wasn’t us) we had a little girl last week. Name, weight, time, place etc all belong to us and we won’t be going out of our way to divulge them anytime soon. Rest assured, everyone is well.
Thanks for all your well wishes though, they are greatly appreciated.
Pegg has been preparing himself for fatherhood, in an interview earlier this month he stated:
It’s the most important thing to me. I’m very excited. I want to be a really good dad, a good influence and a good role model – someone my child can turn to, whatever the hell that means… It’s all to do with your attitude and making sure they stay grounded, but making sure they aren’t deprived of anything.
If you’ve got the money to give them things, and it’s a positive thing, then you should do it – education, whatever they need.
Although Pegg lives in London, the baby was born in Los Angeles, something Pegg said he was excited about as she will have dual citizenship. Pegg noted:
It struck me that, technically, he or she could eventually become President of the United States. The potential is there!

Having become a proud papaw of a little girl just a few months ago, I can imagine how the Peggs feel. There is nothing more precious than a daughter or a granddaughter. Being the father of 2 sons did not in any way prepare me for a little girl.
Here’s hoping their little one is as happy and well adjusted as our granddaughter is- sleeps all night since the second week, has a smile for one and all, and is perfect in every way.
