Star Trek Movie Blu-ray & DVD Packaging + Best Buy Gift Set Announced

Paramount Home Video have yet to send out their regular high-res images of packaging for JJ Abrams Star Trek movie DVD and Blu-ray sets, but packaging imagery has shown up at Amazon. Plus Best Buy has announced a special gift set version of the Blu-ray that comes with badge pins. Details below.

Packaging & Pre-orders

The images below are taken from Amazon.com. They may not be the final packaging, but are probably close to the final design. Amazon also now has pre-orders available for the single disk DVD set. You can pre-order by clicking on the images below.

[3-disk Blu-ray: Amazon pre-order $27.99]

[2-disk DVD: Amazon pre-order $22.99]

[1-disk DVD: Amazon pre-order $20.99]

Best Buy Gift Set
In addition to the above sets, there will be a special ‘gift’ edition of the Blu-ray set available at Best Buy stores. These will be the same as the regular Blu-ray set, but will include four metal Star Trek badge pins (being made by QMx, the company making the Artisan Enterprise Replica). According to QMx, the badges are “exact screen-accurate, cast in solid metal and have two tie-tack pins.” The gift set is available exclusively for pre-order from Best Buy.

Just preordered.

I’m already humming the end credits in my head. This Blu-Ray is going to look AWESOME in my home theater!!!!

Does anyone ever wonder where all the deleted comments from this site go? My guess is, wherever the Defiant went.

Blu-Ray gift set looks awesome.

The packages are great!
In France the packaging for DVD & Blueray boxes is different, it’s the blue poster with Spock/Kirk/Uhura. I find it less attractive that the ones that are shown here!

“Badges – we don’t need no stinkin’ badges.”

Couldn’t help it.

Hate the cover, love the pins. I wish I could buy one now.

Can’t wait!

2 disc DVD plz hurry up and come lol!! I WANT YOU!!!!!

Looks good, but the badges only come with the Blu Ray set?

Also, will QMx do the badges separately later?

I don’t care for the cover art, either. Since I can already tell I’m not alone, I can’t wait to see what some of the custom DVD cover artists will come up with!

I’m totally getting the set w/ the badges! Drool!

#11 – It’s their way of “convincing” you to switch to BR, you see. Expect the studios to do a lot more of this in the coming months, before they ultimately resort to breaking into your house and holding a gun to your head in order to force you to make the switch, dammit! :-)

Too bad the pins don’t come with the DVD as well. I’m one of the few that still needs some “pushing” before upgrading the 300-400 DVDs I own to Blu-Ray.

#14 Oh, if the badges only come with Blu Ray, then I’ll just buy the disk for my sister and keep the badges. ;-)

what..they aren’t trying to milk $80 out of people for these yet??

i already pre-ordered from amazon. wonder if i should cancel and get this one instead…

I don’t remember a badge ever having a cross on it…. ???

19. That would probably be medical

I just canceled my amazon Blu ray and ordred the gift set from BB. My first Blu Ray ever will be a doozy!

Good thing i didnt order the Amazon version yet……. think i’ll wait for more offers, but this one *drools*

Ooooh! Gimme, gimme!

I still say that movie poster looks like someone spilled printers ink all over the paper, and someone color blind said, “hey, cool!”. Yuck!!

Put the poster designer along with the Engineering set and the mysterious absense of a brig in the ‘mistakes not to repeat in the next movie’ file, please.

looks like i will be canceling my amazon preorder, i have to have the best buy exclusive.

All of these treats today….and on my birthday. Me and Lynda Carter. Happy B-day Lynda.

#24- Happy Birthday! May you Live Long & Prosper!

Uhm, the cover art won’t match my special edition DVDs of Star Trek I-X that I already own. No matter, the movie was cool! Can’t wait!! :-)

I’m also not crazy about the cover art. But then again, I was never crazy about the poster either, so that’s not really surprising.

But Star Trek will be the movie that I upgrade to Blu-Ray for. Only for Star Trek!

“the cover art won’t match my special edition DVDs of Star Trek I-X that I already own.”

That’s because this cover is from an alternate universe!

Thank you. And peace be with you, brother.

Happy B-day Andy :)

the bestbuy preorder is the best way to go !

I don’t think I’ll ever understand that poster. For one of the best movies in quite a while, certainly the best of the summer to be marketed with such an ugly poster. I’ll never understand.

However, can’t WAIT for the DVD and the sequel

#3 – what, the Mirror Universe?

WANT!!!!!!!!!!!

The cover art is awesome. They picked the best poster to take it from, BY FAR. Love it.

#15. Christopher, Blu-ray players can play DVDs with no problem. There’s no reason to upgrade your existing titles in order buy a Blu-ray player.

The message that TPTB apparently wanted to get across seemed to be “this one is different” (which it was, in almost every way imaginable)and so therefore even the movie poster needed to be different, as well.

I’m gonna wait and see if Target has a special DVD case available like they did a year ago for Iron Man and Transformers and Dark Knight… One can hope…

Any larger hi-res packaging images?

Bob Orci a few thoughts….

The way I see it do three movies and at the end of the last one have Q turn up and say to Kirk you can save mankind and Vulcan but at a cost.

Have Q give Kirk the option to save Spock in this timeline or completely rewrite the alternate history to stop Nero destroying Vulcan and stopping him as soon as he comes through the wormhole.

The cost……history will correct itself and the new adventures will never happen so Kirk WILL be as he always was.

Think about it they can do three movies hit reset like this and then things will happen properly.

Then do three more within the confinds of canon.

Literally the best of both Worlds.

Star Trek Global Box Office Update:

$379,280,270 as of June 24, 2009

Put me squarely in the “I LOVE the cover art” corner. I was hoping they’d use the black and white movie poster and they did.

Maybe I’m out of touch, but could someone explain the problem with the cover art? What makes it so bad?

Seriously guys…it’s getting sad.

Do you not know what the cross badge is for, it’s for the red shirts, and propaganda, they can then say since the red shirts die first, you’re kill our red cross people that we sent in to help the hurt people.

I know that was a cheap political joke but aren’t the cross badges a joke also.

I know it goes Command, Science, Engineering. So it’s easy to guess Medical, but is not Medical a science field. Something keeps saying in the back of my head third could be a Star Fleet badge, but I thought they were arm stripes, and shirt badges are for crew members. And dress uniforms you then wore your award colors bars. I.E. modeled after the Navy where Enterprise first got it’s name. Did the British not have a H.M.S. Enterprise in 1655

I am still holding out for the super limited edition Blu-ray pack that comes complete with a matching Zoe Saldana.

Why aren’t they using the ACTUAL (i.e., non-italicised) movie logo, anyway?

Anyone know if we can get the blu ray set with the badges in the UK?????

I think the medical badge is more for nurses and stuff. Doctors, like Bones, get the science one because they’re technically “Life Sciences”

Here’s hoping Mr. Orci reads this…

I think a good way to use Spock Prime in the next movie would be to have him, after spending a while in the alternate universe, receive a message from Q to the effect of “Your timeline’s fine, dude. I messed with the black hole-ish thing and sent you to another reality.” Spock Prime could have figured this out earlier, perhaps with a five-second scene where he asks Pine Kirk if his eyes have always been blue. Spock Prime, being very intelligent, would thus be able to find his way back to his quantum reality. This scene could be structured as Quinto Spock going to see Spock Prime for help on something or other…but the dude is gone. Quinto Spock looks around and sees the message from Q on the monitor, which would probably just read something like “Your home timeline is fine. Feel free to come back anytime. Signed, Q.” Quinto Spock would, of course go “Huh?”, but the basic point of the scene would still get across–namely, that Pine Kirk and co. must figure things out on their own, as Spock Prime is gone. This enhances the drama and saves the Prime Universe. Two birds with one stone.

Of course, instead of spending time making up explanations (which, admittedly, is fun), we COULD all just say “It’s fiction, there are two worlds. Deal.” Which, with the aid of fudged quantum mechanics (I’ve looked–quantum mechanics says nothing about creating another universe when you time travel), is essentially what Mr. Orci and Mr. Kurtzman have done. I don’t blame them for fudging the quantum mechanics–they were trying to sound official to a fandom that takes crap WAY too seriously. Honestly, who cares if Worf says “Today is a good day to die” nineteen times as opposed to twenty whilst serving on the ENT-D? Who cares if he’s even played by Michael Dorn? Michael Dorn doesn’t–nothing changes all the money he’s made off of TNG. Sadly, there are a bunch of Star Trek fans who do care, and in so doing give the sane ones a bad name.

Message 47….what the hell does your post have to do with the video release announcement of the film? Are you kicked out of the other topic areas cause you’re always trolling your negative thoughts about your father’s Star Trek? Do us a favor and transport back into your parents basement and pop another xxx flic in the vcr.

41. Ricker’sDad… “Maybe I’m out of touch, but could someone explain the problem with the cover art? What makes it so bad?”

Besides it being hideous, blurry, colorless mess, you mean? Okay, I’ll say again. If someone poured a bottle of printers ink all over a photo of the Enterprise, they could have done no worse. I’m still not convinved that’s not how this abomination happened.

It should have been a movie poster, not a Rorschach Test. (“I see a turtle! No, its a comet! No wait, it’s a picture of Leonid Bresznev. What? You mean that’s supposed to be the ENTERPRISE?”)

Blech.

The BB thing is confusing. Is it in-store AND pre-order, or just pre-order? The article says “in store”, and then “pre-order only” at the end.

We all know that BB puts collector sets out, I’m thinking these WILL be in store.
