Yes, because Del Taco promotion worked so well for Nemesis back in 2002. :-P At least this time it’s more than just lame coupons or whatever it was. Looks like they actually put some thought into the promotion.

Too bad there aren’t any Del Tacos here in Minnesota.

I’m starting to think I will actually be getting this game…..

I would get this game in a heartbeat… if I could afford it.

Fighting fighting fighting…

2. Here in Minnesota also…funny I was just googling that when I read your post….

alright I just caved and pre-ordered!!! I hope my computer can handle it

Most unusual…

Why didnt they go national with Tacobell or Burger King? Burger King did the collecter cups for the movie… Why would they not do it now?

@DS9 — They get the best deal they possibly can. BK and Taco Bell must not have been interested.

Never head of Del Taco? Is that like Dell Computers and Taco Bell?

Why don’t they get a more international restaurant to promote their game?

Gosh, there are so many states that do not have this lessor known restaurant. Who was the genius that signed this promotion deal, are they not looking for eastern and central gamers?

NCC-1700-A ?

@12

Thanks you so much i never knew there was a Del Taco an hour from my house!!! im going there this weekened now hahaha

@5 Kaiser The Great

The game´s promotional campaign, as presented on TrekMovie through the various published screen-shots, has left me with the exact same impression…, which is why I do not seem to be able to muster any interest for it.

What is “Del Taco”?

The best fast taco place in existence. I wish there was one in BC.

My wife and I took a road trip from Vancouver BC to Los Vegas and almost lived exclusively off of their food once we had tried it after crossing into the California border.

hey can the pre-order market UK market trade in that tribble for a shuttle pet?

can the UK pre order market change ds9 uniforms for a TOS connie?

Im in the beta and I also preorder the digital download and I tell you it’s the best Star Trek game and I am having lots of fun. I just wish that I had a Del Taco cause I have collected all Star Trek cups and more since I was a kid.

I’d rather have a shuttle and a cool ship instead of Voyager uniforms and fur balls.

sure I’m QQ
but I also speak for a lot of STO fans.

hold that lifetime membership

I would rather have a shuttle too

A few nice ship designs there. The ships have always been my favorite Trek “characters.”

What the heck’s a Del Taco?

Naugles, Naugles. :)

Get a beta key folks. Seriously try the game first.

They Have Del Taco in Las Vegas. I will just have to go to get my cups and codes!

Like I needed a reason anyway.

Screw it. I don’t care about the beta reviews. I’m playing this game when I get the chance

what is a Dell Taco? Is that Dell Computer’s new lap top shaped like a Taco?

Kinda weird that the Enterprise-A is active in the 25th century. And aparently been refitted…again?

Dell Taco is not on the East Coast .

But here is a link to what states they are located in.

http://www.deltaco.com/locations.html

Enjoy if you are no where near the east coast.

This might be the best use of the Star Trek license ever.

Gotta love promotions and contests where you get screwed if you’re not in the right part of the country/world. Awesome.

30 – LMFAO

I figure if people eat Del Taco they’ll be spending too much time on the toilet to go and play Star Trek online.

Those cups are cool. Nice pics as well. I guess Starfleet lost so many ships in the Dominion War they had to bring the Enterprise A back into service. In which case there might be an Enterprise B in the game as well.

http://img.trekmovie.com/images/sto/sto_012110_07.jpg That’s the ship I’ve been flying! Rapier-class escort.. very fast and maneuverable and packs a punch, and it’s lil and adorable too. :)

Anyway, for those of you who think it’s just fighting.. while there is a lot of space and ground combat, there are also other types of missions. Missions involving exploring uncharted space and planets and anomalies and bringing back the data, and missions involving investigations of various things. There’s also a pretty well thought-out storyline which spans all of trek, and I think they’ve really done their research. There have been surprising references all throughout it… nods to many minor details throughout all the shows. I think overall it’s been pretty good so far (at least in open beta) and although they could use even more variety in the mission types and structures, it’s still a nice mix for an MMO.

Oh, and for those of you wondering about the ships… for each tier and type, there’s three classes you can choose from. But you just buy the one type and you can customize it anytime at a starbase or spacedock to be any of those three classes or mix and match them. And one class usually seems to be an established class. So for a tier 2 cruiser, one of them is the constitution-refit while the other two are more modern variations including the Excalibur. Same with the miranda-class in tier 1. Tier 2 escort, there’s the Saber-class and then the more modern Rapier and Ushaan.

Too bad Del-Taco isn’t nationwide.

#36… Oh, but it is. From California to Flordia to Milwalkee. Just not in thos “Other lesser states. lol

I guess the person who signed this promotion deal loved del tacos and thought it was nationwide…facepalm

Del-Taco???

have they never heard of Burger King or McDonalds?

I hope they didn’t choose Del Taco to appease our beloved Mexican writer Bob! That would be so narrow minded.

@33
Isn’t that what laptops are for? ;-)

On another note, I have been somewhat of a detractor for STO having read a lot about it during development and listening to a friends comments when it was in closed beta. I have since downloaded a copy for myself (all 6.6Gb of it!) and managed to get an open beta key.
I have been playing it on and off since then.

My initial misgivings are the same as before, there is a hell of a lot of combat. Which I personally believe goes against the grain of what Star Trek is about. I have found some exploration missions, but these appear to be few and far between. Maybe that will change.

I feel this game will do well, but in my opinion it is Star Trek in name only. Ultimately any MMORPG has to rely on combat and trading to make way for player advancement, and Star Trek has never been heavily reliant on either to tell its stories in the past.

Anyway, that is what I think. Anyone who has a structured counter-argument, I am all ears.

I agree, Star Trek has always been about exploration, not shit blowing up, I rather they have focused on raiding dungeons and unlocking quests and solving mysteries. PVP system is good if the rewards and fame is there, but what makes a good mmo imo is the ability to sustain the person who seeks adventure and storyline and satisfy the urge to be a hero.

I will let all the bugs get fixed and get feedback from the gaming community before considering buying a copy or just wait for a free trial with no problems.

I don’t really like the fact that the time is set 30 years after a dismal film, it would have been much better if it was set in the TOS era where you can progress to the TNG era or in JJ’s alternative reality and progress the story into the unknown, the actions of the gamers dictating what happens to the universe. Also giving captain ability to any new comer gamer is a mistake, in WOW you had to earn your mount at lvl 60 or flight at lvl 70 through quests and collaboration.

The fact that you are able to command your own starship right away shows me that they do not care about progression and earning your command but rather immediate rewards like fast food which is unfortunate.

@42
Must say I totally agree with your last paragraph. I for one would have looked forward to spending a lot of hours actually going through Star Fleet Academy honing my skills, graduating and then working my up through the ranks serving on various starships, ultimately getting to captain and a command of my own. In that way, you would feel as if you have earned the right to be there. Much like you mention levelling up in WOW

If it is possible in this game to be a captain of a ship filled automated “players” then it should be just as easy to be a lower ranking crew member on the same ship getting your orders from a virtual captain. The game can be made to unfold in the same manner.

I would pay good money to play a game like that. Perhaps Cryptic visit these boards, you never know, there might be a server upgrade in the future that gives us that kind of extra depth to the game.

I would love to play a game which really embodies what Star Trek is about. I think the closest we ever got was STTNG: A Final Unity

STTNG: A Final Unity was a great game, loved the voice overs and puzzles/exploration.

They STO players on right now look like they’re having so much fun without us. sigh…..

I’m on and it’s very good. They have improved the look for the Constituation class ship since the pic above (no silly sqaure on the deflector) and uniform customisation allows a pretty close approximation of TOS uniforms, so I’m one happy fella!!

@37 TJ:

You’re calling my home state of Texas, the state with possibly the richest history in the union (not to mention second largest state), a “lesser state”?

#48

I think he was being sarcastic.

Got to Memory Alpha a little while ago, but there seems to be a bug where you cannot give your anomalous data to Commander Romaine…. sigh.

Live long and prosper

In reference to the whole Del Taco thing:

Keep in mind that the whole point of the promotional deal is to bring people into the restaurant. If that fails, then the company ends up wasting money on a promotion that doesn’t work. It makes sense that a chain like McDonald’s or Burger King wouldn’t want to pick this up. Remember, this is just promoting a VIDEO GAME! This is a MUCH SMALLER, NICHE AUDIENCE than a movie or a TV show. A large chain stands to lose much more money by attempting to do a promotion for something like this. I would imagine in a situation like this, we’re lucky a place like Del Taco even decides to do the promotion.
