VIDEO Reports From London Star Trek Costume Record Attempt

On Sunday we reported on the record setting gathering of Star Trek fans in costume in the UK. Today we have videos from the event, which include who won some of the prizes at the event and some interviews. We also have video of a gathering of Star Wars fans also held in the UK over the weekend.

Here is the official video from Atari.

99…can we do better?

It was noted in the video, and in the comments here at TrekMovie and elsewhere, that 99 does seem to be a beatable number. TrekMovie has already made inquiries on arranging a record attempt at the Las Vegas Star Trek convention this summer. The trick is to get the Guinness people to verify the record. Look for updates on this later.

Star Wars Lightsaber flashmob

The Star Trek cosplay record attempt wasn’t the only nerdy gathering in the UK over the weekend. On Saturday there was a ‘flashmob’ arranged in Bristol to try and create the largest lightsaber fight. Here is the video:

Why, oh why do so many of us have to be fat? Um, I mean, cool! what an awesome event!

It’s girls like that in the first vid that make me love this country. :)

yay for star trek!!!

Alex brings a lot more to the role than Gates did. Yum.

I want to remind you guys that some of the people featured in the videos are readers of TrekMovie, so bear that in mind when you comment about them.

The only Trek roles I can play convincingly are: Harry Mudd and a Horta. So, I’m not one to throw tribbles.

What the heck? The Picard guy even sounds like Picard!

And the ladies sound so friggin’ cute.

::Sigh::

I guess all the good ones are all on that side of the pond.

: o

I think that if they ever recast TNG, they should look at casting Ms. Alex Sim-Wise as Dr. Crusher.

Most definitely. Uh huh. Yep.

Dammit. I wish I’d gone now – Purely for the record breaking attempt and not to chat up the lovely women in tight costumes……

(Finally, them season 1-3 TNG uniforms are paying off.)

Another thing – A woman who willingly paints herself as an orion slave girl and can’t find a Trekkie boyfriend? I need to move to Cambridge.

We met Giles at the Star Trek CONs in Vegas the last 2 years.

He was shown on the Season 1 remastered TOS dvds in that special showing the Paramount auction that Christies did. He bought the outfit Picard worn as Robin Hood. I would imagine he has a variety of outfits to dress as Picard.

I wonder if Giles ever met Patrick Stewart? That would be fun to witness!

I just have visions of a mundane who runs into the Trekkers and, in disgust, decides to hike it to Bristol to get away. Ouch! ;-)

Man that looks like so much fun!
Maybe it’s worth getting into STO just for the sake of making friends who are also into the trek. At the moment I have none

I think it’s funny that they group the Trek videos on this page above the Star Wars one — fukn Star Wars. It’s cool but it pales in comparison

Wish I was there

Is that Philip Seymour Hoffman in the gold shirt in that first video?

maybe only 99 people showed up because it was Valentine’s day?? but yes… we will definitely do better in Vegas :]!!

Melissa – I think Valentine’s Day was a part of it, but also because it was cold, a Sunday (i.e. transport was dodgy), only had about a week’s notice, there was another Star Trek event that weekend, and it was also Chinese New Year…

I think we did quite well considering the odds :)

…That second video was so embarrassing ._.;

My GAWD that guy looks and talks just like Patrick Stewart, I was in awe watching the video, it was like really watching Stewart with different mannerisms.

I bet the Las Vegas Trek convention will beat the UK’s record

Huge SHOUT OUT to the Irish Klingons
congratulations on winning and greetings from County Antrim :D
