This weekend there are conventions on two continents full of Star trek celebs, and there will be attempts to set a new record of costumed fans at both! The Vulcan convention in Tampa, Florida and the FedCon on Bonn, Germany both kick off today. And you don’t need to attend the cons to participate in either record attempt.
Vulcan Events Con in Tampa
The Vulcan Events Convention in Tampa, FL. is being held Friday – Sunday April 30th – May 2nd at the Tampa Westshore Airport Doubletree Hotel. Celebrity guests include Christopher Lloyd, Michael Shanks, Gary Graham, Jennifer Lien, Tony Todd, and Catherine Hicks.
And on Saturday morning there will be an attempt to beat the Guinness World Record set in London. The record event is being organized by the USS Shooting Star, a local Starfleet International chapter.
Anyone is eligible to participate, even if you are not attending the convention. Just show up at the Tampa Doubletree Hotel Westshore before 11:00 AM on May 1st. The count starts at 11:00 AM on Saturday morning and the counting process and photos should take no more than 1 hour.
More information on the convention and record attempt at vulcanevents.com.
FedCon in Germany
Also kicking off today is the largest Star Trek and sci-fi con in Europe, FedCon XIX. The con is chock full of big name guests, including many from DS9 like Terry Farrell, Michael Dorn, and Nicole de Boer. Other Trek guests include Martha Hackett, Suzie Plakson, Manu Intiraymi and Harry Groener. Plus James Cawley will be premiering new Star Trek Phase II fan films at the event. There are also a number of BSG stars lined up including Luciana Carro, Aaron Douglas, Kandyse McClure and Tahmoh Penikett. The complete list of guest stars can be found at FedCon.de.
And again on Saturday, May 1, there will be a record breaking attempt for Trek fans in costume. The attempt is organized by FedCon staff but fans do not have to be convention visitors in order to participate. Costumes have to be in line with Trek canon in order to count officially.
The world record attempt will take place next to the Maritim Hotel Bonn, the convention venue, at 1:00 PM local time (7:00 AM EST). Star Trek expert Richard Arnold will act as an arbiter on costume authenticity and a member of the Maritim Hotel’s management will serve as a neutral witness.
Trek stars in Germany for 2010 FedCon
I would not mind seeing how things are done in Germany. FED CON seems great and I just met a ST fan from Germany at the recent Wizard Con in Anaheim. She was dressed in a perfect copy of a TOS red dress. She was so excited to get Shatners autograph on a photo she brought from Germany with her.
Well I live close to Tampa but I have to work this weekend so I probably wont be able to attend :[ Would love to though.
I live near Tampa too, but I’ve got some stuff to do this weekend. Dang! I’d like to go.
I can’t tell if that is a Klingon in the picture above or the Burger King…
The record has been broken with more than 500 people in uniform !
#5 YEAHHHHH! that is so cool. I wish I could have been there, darn work! lol But that rocks for real, hopfully more will be posted about it here.
507 in Germany. How much in Vulcan?
greets from Germany
over 500 at FedCon, Bonn
about 100 at Vulcan Events Con, Tampa
that little “Vulcan events” video was the most pointless thing I have ever watched in my life.
