Many Trekkies, myself included, are big fans of Futurama and are very excited about the return of the show on Thursday June 24th on Comedy Central. Matt Groening and David X. Cohen talk Futurama and Trek

In the Q&A below, David X. Cohen reveals that the original Star Trek was his “biggest inspiration” for Futurama and the high point for him was when he had all the living original Star Trek actors as guest stars (for the episode "Where No Fan Has Gone Before"). He also revealed that George Takei is returning for his third guest spot this year and that he would like to bring on Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Michael Dorn.

Get Ready for the return of Futurama

Are you ready for Futurama to return? We should expect the Star Trek references to start right off the bat, apparently the one hour premiere includes references to several Star Trek films, including a giant space ship called "V’Giny". And Zapp Brannigan, Futurama’s version of Capt. Kirk will be there as well.

Here is a new ‘recap’ of the entire history of Futurama, narrated as a captain’s log from Zapp.

Thank goodness it’s back. This show rocks!!

can’t wait till thursday!!!!!! and just a note, its spelled Zapp

I don’t have TV right now, and this show is one of the few reasons why I would want one!

I continue to hold out hope for a “Wrath of Melllvar” sequel to “Where No Fan Has Gone Before.” :)

I hope Planet Express gets this downunder real soon. It’s been a long time between Slurms!

Scruffy’s rollin’ out a big pill.

Kiff, I have mated with a women… inform the men! Classic!

Make it So, Number One.

“Stop exploding you cowards!”

This show could go either way, but luckily they don’t have to worry about retarded Fox executives

great entertainment

good news everyone!

This makes my summer.

Lord, I need to get a life.

My summer has been made….it’s about time!

James Doohan was alive when “Where No Fan Has Gone Before” was made.

Apparently, he didn’t want to do it, so “Welshy” was created for those musical reunion specials they did back in the 2200s.

Right now, Futurama is the ONLY worthwhile thing on Cable. Period.

Yay Futurama! Good news everyone indeed-no fox executives true, but…comedy central threatened to recast all the voice talent claiming they couldnt afford the originals–maybe a negotiating ploy but if they had replaced em i sure wouldnt have watched the new shows–So we will see if the comedy central people really are better than fox or maybe not-Futurama to me, is better than the simpsons, and family guy–Fry, unfortunately reminds me of me hahhhah–i havent been able to find that cryonics lab yet—

Been waiting for this Return! Awesome show with a great voice cast.
@ Pro-Khan-Sel You said it!!

who voted no , i mean really ? really ? you have no soul lol. also the I.T. crowd is also back , best show since father ted , and the funniest thing on TV right now.

so YAY ! I.T. Crowd and Futurama back , good times for all

Has there ever been a greater consensus on this site than about Futurama?

Good news, everyone!

Okay, apologies – # 11 Allen Williams already beat me to that joke.
So now I’m just going to shake my fist at him and shout:
WERNSTROM!

Hooray! Love that show!

18 – Love IT Crowd, but…Father Ted, really?

I love the show. Very happy its returning.

And of absolutely no value , wow, Groening and Cohen are an odd looking duo.

YAY! EXCELLENT SHOW!!

#16 – That wasn’t Comedy Central; that’s 20th Century Fox Television. CC isn’t producing the shows, Fox is. Announcing that they are going to replace the entire voice cast is one of Fox’s standard negotiating tactics, apparently. If you’ll recall, they pulled the same stunt on The Simpsons’ cast not too long ago.

Yes u r right marklar from marklar–i hope the marklars dont marklar me for this error! So it still is the idiots at fox haha running the show–so what corporation owns the comedy channel–they have allowed south park to be censor free—

@27. Jim Nightshade

Viacom owns them.

I watched this. The first 21 minutes seem to have been infected by the same virus that’s running rampant on the Simpsons. It’s a whole lot of WTF??!

But then! the next half-hour, the “v-giny” episode, was wicked fun. It’s actually hilarious at times and it’s chock full of Star Trek references that will make any fan grin. There’s a Janeway database… Lela watches her homework explode through a looking glass… planets get swallowed up by an unknown and inconsistent blackness…. there are a multitude of references to “Genesis” ….. oh, the list goes on. What a delight! I am definitely going to watch this show as long as it keeps on being fun like this!

Yep, the first ep kinda sucked, but the 2nd ep was brilliant.

#29, #30 As it hasn’t even aired on the east coast yet as I write this, how did you guys see the premiere? A time machine? ;)

Although this hasn’t been confirmed in print anywhere, I believe that the reason Jimmy didn’t want to do it was that he was pretty ill by that time, and wouldn’t have been physically able to pull it off. I remember that it was around that time that they saluted Star Trek on the first TV LAND awards, and I was shocked at how frail poor James looked. He was even being supported by Shatner, which probably galled him no end. That was the first I’d heard that he was ill.

yes the death sphere was a vger spoof as well with two satellites crashing haha–vginy heheh–i kinda liked the 1st episode–as a rebirth restart it wasnt bad-plus it had some fry leela romance too but i admit the 2nd ep was funnier–just remember all good things must end-prefarably with a big explosion—thats what zapp branigan sez….
also i am on west coast saw the episodes at 7pm from the east coast time-comcast carries the comedy channel in hi def but its 3 hours ahead–so i watched them at 7

Again, it sucks to live outside the U.S., we can’t watch any of the above clips do to copyright infringement. When will this stuff change!!!

I am very unhappy that TRESS MACNEILLE is STILL involved with Matt Groening. Her smug voice ruins EVERY episode she is in.

Way to go Groening!

And dont get me started on how pap the Futurama specials were

(tho i am genuinely pleased Futurama is back and keep up the good work)
