Interview with new STO Exec Producer Daniel Stahl – talks additional playable factions

The latest STOked podcast talks to STO’s newly promoted executive producer Daniel Stahl who addresses concerns about turnover at Cryptic and gives some updates on the upcoming Season 2 release, including the introduction of a new race. One of the interesting bits of news is that the Cryptic team are focused on increasing the content for the Klingon faction, including PvE (player vs. environment), and this focus on the Klingons means that additional factions like the Romulans is farther down the road.

Old republic ftw

first?

second.

Yeah I know about TOR

Wow! (no pun intended).

This looks great. But no mention of the nice Williams(?) score behind it all?

Did something happen to my browser? Why are the articles and comments section all miniaturized?

Eh, looks okay in chrome. Zoom is set to normal. Weird.

4 and 5:

Hold the Control Key and scroll the mouse wheel, in Firefox this zooms in and out.

SWTOR will be a wow buster…

Hey #7 – I think blizzard may actually bust their game WOW. I hear they are going to start using peoples’ real names on their forums instead of forum handles. NUTS!

I wonder if those model ships seen in the ship interior screen shot are supposed to be models of other ships belonging to that Captain. I would be kinda neat to see models of my other ships in my ready room.

Yup, interiors will display “owned ship” models as well as various trophies the player earns..

Many more interiors to come too!

I made the mistake of taking the time to download STO several weeks ago. Promptly uninstalled it when I realized I didn’t want to waste money every month on that piece of crap. Ships should move and interact with space stations and planets like they do in the show, not bounce off them like basketballs.

@joel

They had to make some allowances for an MMO, as well as balences for PVE and PVP combat.

If a ship in the show hits something, it does massive damage, sometimes destroying the ship, this would not work well in an MMO where Collisions between Players and NPCs/Objects is common.

The type of collision game play you’re talking about would be good for a Stand Alone game, and actually worked quite well in Star Trek Bridge Commander (arguably the best trek game made that really captures the essence of the show, but the story line was lackluster and very mary sue-ish)

Man, that healer class just looks utterly boring, even more so then in WoW. Even the animation just looks terrible for the class. They’ve really got to fix that before release.

I do like the idea that the Jedi doesn’t have to be the main tank unless it’s some sort of melee class.

Star Wars the Old Republic looks just like the movies: Lights, flashes and a crappy story.

I am excited for season 2. Hurry up already!!!!!!!!!!!!

TOR looks….pants tbh!

I play STO, and I do enjoy it, there are lots of things I wish were different, and I hate several missions, but still I do like it, Rear Admiral now…

I think they should make a new version of Starship Creator, and incorporate that with STO

Ah, the Galaxy dreadnought, AKA how to turn a beautiful starship design into a fanboy wagon. ;)

TOP…drool…There goes my free time when that puppy comes out. Loved KOTOR.

Voyager deserved to be cancelled. It was a real piece of crap.

I have healed with my Paladin,. Druid and Shaman level 80’s on WOW and the Counselor Jedi class look like it will be the perfect introduction to SW TOR for me.,
Of course every one and his mom will want to be a jedi,. so maybe the trooper tank toon will get me more chances to raid.,

guys ONE THING that SW TOR has that STO does not is!

Original Soundtrack music

too bad that the music sucks. Just another hack composer ripping off 19th century romantics.

I’m excited about SWTOR, but I was a little surprised at the fact the players were not seeking and exploiting cover. I recall seeing an earlier demo video showing the cover resources players could take advantage of.

Sorry if this is a tired question for some of you from a non-player, but why do all the interiors look so spacious (including the one above)? In the shots of the ship’s bridges I’ve seen, they seem cavernous.

@ ben

WTF are you talking about. The STAR WARS scores are classics!!!

That star wars one is great, except for the fact that the empire didn’t exist during the old republic.

Whoever wrote that story line didn’t pay any attention to the timeline.
