Karl Urban Rumored To Be New Judge Dredd + New Pic Of Chris Hemsworth as Thor

shat-london10Today brings news for two Star Trek 2009 actors and comic book movie adaptation. First up there is another one of those Star Trek movie actor rumors, this time it is Karl Urban as the new Judge Dredd. Plus there is a new image of Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Check it all out below .

Urban as Judge Dredd?

Judge Dredd, the 2000 AD Comic strip about a dystopian future with police empowered as judge, jury and executioners, is getting another film adaptation. The script was written by Alex Garland (28 Days Later) and it is being directed by Peter Travis (Vantage Point) and now there is a rumor that Star Trek’s Karl Urban may be the new Judge. Urban would certainly be an improvement over the Sylvester Stallone version from the 1995 Judge Dredd. BleedingCool.com is reporting that Urban has been offered the job as the anti-hero, with the caveat that (like the original character) the Judge does not take off his helmet. No conformation yet, but Dredd should be cast soon so look for an update.

Could Karl Urban be the next Dredd?

Hemsworth Hammers as Thor

Chris Hemsworth was not in the Star Trek movie for long, but his heroic turn as George Kirk got the Aussie actor a lot of buzz and likely led to him being cast as lead in the Marvel/Paramount film Thor, currently being filmed with director Kenneth Branagh and slated for release next summer. Today the USA Today has a first look at Hemsworth all beefed up as Thor, check it out. .

Karl, I implore you. BE CAREFUL!

Well, I’ll admit Chris has the muscles, but can he act?

@2

Uhh… did you see the opening to Star Trek?!

Uhh….yeah, and that proves very little!

“Damn it, man, I AM THE LAW, not a doctor!”

OHHHH YAAAAA!!
I think Urban would make a good & gritty Judge Dredd :D
If done (and promoted) right this film could be a surprise box office hit.
You would just have to make sure that the idiots who did the first ”film”
stay as far away from this production as possible. (and that means you Stallone)

Karl Urban would make a dreadful Dredd! He just hasn’t got the chin for the iconic helmet. Now Aaron Eckhart on the other hand…

Anyway, glad to hear the helmet’s staying on this time around, but surely it doesn’t require any kind of ‘name’ in the role, and a total ‘unknown’ could be given the role. As long as they have the chin for it…

Chris Hemsworth is looking the part for Thor though. Just hope he gets made to wear the helmet too, at some point, and they don’t make the same mistake as Stallone’s Dredd did!

They could always give him a prosthetic ”chin” Like they did Mickey Rourke for MARV from sin city.

I don’t know – do you think Urban can do a convincing Broklyn accent?

[grin]

But if you want a serious CHIN for the role – how about the inimitable, the one, the ONLY, Robert Z’Dar?

I think they’ll be hard pressed to find a well known actor who’ll agree not to show his face.

I agree too that Karl doesn’t have the chin to match the comic.

cant wait for thor think it will be good

if it’s not, I’ll be thor!

Judge Dredd again?
Can’t we please have some things that didn’t suck bigtime already?
I’d still love to see a serious-minded (but fun) live action adaptation of Captain Harlock. I know the Japanese did Starblazers, but that looks campy.
Or what about some of the great books? Rendezvous with Rama would kick butt! As would a GOOD version of Lost in Space. (OK, broke my own rule there, but I did say a GOOD version.)

10 – rewatch Vendetta.

12 – Maybe we should get hammered before the movie? Get it? Hammered. ahahahahahahahahahahaahah!!! I’m 14.

….and if, while drinking, we want to protect our backside when we fall down, and we attach a “cup” to our rear, would that be called an…ASS-GARD?

ahahahahahahahahaha! I’m 12.

“Your father was the captain of a Starship for twelve minutes. The rest of the time, he apparently spent in the weight room.” Holy gun show!

@7, 10: Stallone has more of a chin than Karl Urban, we could bring him back if you like…

If a chin means everything, hell, cast Reese Witherspoon!

#17

Or Jay Leno!

If the chin is really the big deal, cast The Tick or The Crimson Chin.

LOL.

The muscles look like prosthetic makeup to me- trying too hard.

I’m glad KU is cashing in, but I think seeing one Judge Dredd movie in my lifetime is enough. LOL

Are you saying you dread to see Dredd?

Hemsworth’s scene in Star Trek was actually one of the more moving ones in the film, and he think he sold it perfectly. He did quite a lot with very few lines. His expressions were subtle yet conveyed the emotion he was feeling. In his small amount of time I was very impressed with what he showed.

I doubt Thor will be the film that really uses his acting chops. Maybe I’m wrong. I hope so.

No doubt Karl can do Dredd. He’s played that kind of character before. It was his role in Star Trek that was the real departure, forcing him to act more and be less of a physical presence. He nailed it perfectly. A very skilled and endearing performance.

Karl Urban can’t really lose playing Dredd, if he keeps the helmet on. If it sucks, no one’s seen his face, if it succeeds, he can show his face in the publicity!

I guess Hemsworth will have to act, yes, as Thor, the Odinson, is a talkative shakespearean talker.

#9 — But if you want a serious CHIN for the role – how about the inimitable, the one, the ONLY, Robert Z’Dar?

@ 9 after watching samurai cop I’m not sure for Robert Z’dar :P

:D

I’ll be the first to admit I don’t keep up on the current continuity of any comic book character, but is this dealing with a mud hill, making a Richard Dreyfuss mountain, part of the current Thor story line? What is that? Does he throw pots these days and use Mjolnir as a kiln?

@28 – I’m guessing the pic is of the “King Arthur” moment when he first lifts the hammer.

It was in a crater at the end of Iron Man and I’m betting they tried many ways to move it but could not since only Thor (or someone worthy) can.

Hemsworth was brilliant as Kirk’s dad he did great

Does Karl Urban want to destroy his career?

“He’s Dredd, Jim”

How many franchises dose Carl Urban need to be in, I would stay away from Dredd if I would him. Shitty comic book character anyways.

I don’t understand why a magical hammer would need to be anywhere near a factory floor near some kind of pressurized container.

@34: I think it’s some sort of temporary building that they built around where the hammer showed up. Thor’s the only one who can get it out of the ground or something, right?

if they need someone to play dredd who won’t take off the helmet, call Ron Perlman

If only, if only Clint Eastwood could be Judge Dredd.

Has he ever acted the role of a judge?
